First time I heard Detour
Fantastic. although ii didnt hear it at the time, it really captures 1982 !
Be in her early 70s now.
Classic
Brilliant track
Gran cantante de finales de los 70'S.
Rest in peace Karen 🙏🏽
My God. I completely forget about this tune. It's fantastic.
I bought it as an Atlantic single. Never heard it played in the clubs here in L.A. but "Hot Shot" was HUGE.
The part where the vocal rises in pitch is the one you have to watch for.
God I loved that song so much when I was at the Paladium, roller skating 🥰😘
Unforgettable. Summer 1982
Nice Post-Disco tune.
@ Joe Smilovitch Try 'you don't know what you got' you might just "like" another of Karen's. Wicked funk disco, yeah baby keep it alive!
Rip Maeve.

Hello, I have on vinyl this release www.discogs.com/it/Karen-Young-Deetour/release/446483 signed on Atlantic DMD 333 but the version on A side (Party Mix) has different intro from yours..... Can you please tell me which is your version ?? thank you
That's a really good question! I don't remember sorry (it's been 8 years since I stumbled across it) :(
the greatest era of music!
love it soooo much
Haven't heard this in over 30 years. tysm for posting!
it's called Dee Tour on Spotify.
Lorenzo Wright also engineered the sound fx. That's Me!!!
Amazing FX! Thank you!!
What is the sound fx? If you are responsible for this mix god bless you. It’s wild, WILD!
Slaps and claps
& still being played on the radio. ha.
Love the baseline in this song. Heard it first on the Dutch Soul Show years and years ago.
i think it's sad.
Great track, great memories of one of many chapters in my life, this track makes me happy, its pretty much the only one of Karens that i like but i thank her for making it!
High School memories! Karen Young was the absolute "HOT SHOT" on WKTU in New York City. This track was only allowed in clubs. And I was there!!!!!!!
Very interesting info on the link. I remember when this song first came out. Fast forward a few years to when The Vels came out with an album. I actually saw them live and thought they were going to have a big future - well I was wrong! My point is I guess it isn't surprising that Alice Cohen wrote this because Deetour reminds of the Vels-type songs
This track was only released as a single bro.
I was not aware of that - thank you so much! Honestly, this track just keeps on giving. I think it was on an album (may be called Boogie Fever?) but, to be honest, I'm scared to hear much else from Karen because I don't like her "Hot Shot" (surely transport-related somehow - possibly from the future). What if Deetour was their best work? It's so perfect :(
Was this ever on a proper album? Her other singles from that time were called "No U-Turn" and "Expressway to Your Heart", which, when paired with "Deetour", sounds like the first half of an awesome transportation-themed disco album.
Just read your post on The Vine. Oh my god, I love it that you tracked down the songwriter and producer. Astral traveling! I thought he was just getting high.
What post ? Where do I find this article? Please link!
@Ryan Belknap the link used to be in the video's description, but the .au Aussie Vine post looks dead on my side, maybe sober tomorrow through the internetarchive or Google cache I can get something back... From what I remember this was someone's favorite workout/fitness/jogging song and she tried to know more about it, leading to meet the singer and the producers. The article provided explanations about this being their first experimentation on a sampler, thus all the eccho/reverb effects as a "demo"... but again that's just my drunken memories or a particularly lucid dream? More info coming out soon
:)))))
@magsli26 Rt On
I was trying to find this forever using detour :-)
Same here
this song is too true
This song totally turned me on to Lewis. It reminds me of the Emily Dickinson poem 'i died for beauty'
Soooo good
Christ almighty...this is unbelievably good!! Mind-blowing stuff
You make "Weezer" look weak.
hot track alert! hot track alert!
la cambiavo con yazoo..nell'82!! wuauuuu
...some need a ship to take a trip, but not this kind,he used his mind..LOL
& she has a degree from Oxford .. what do we know lol.
As pointless background club music, sure. Like Covenant. Von Iva's a little interesting, with the fried rawk vocals, but it seems this is more about the style and clothes then music. Like Client. Fischerspooner seems to try more then the rest of these. At least there's Fever Ray.
I think you mean Mira. She is exotic-looking, isn't she? Helen is just pure delicious vanilla whiteness. Either one of them is hotter than the receptionist. Just my opinion. Who can account for taste?
Maybe fore few tracks, but tends to get monotonous after awhile. Kinda like Covenant. You only ever want to here a few songs (probably just the club hits) and That's it. Too sugary for me.
Their songs never go anywhere.
im seeing them in a few hours! i love helen and mira!
omg luck y ass!! the bands that the Faint played with were shitty when i saw them in October!
