    11 days from now, will mark 45 years since the crash. I was 14 years old when it happened. As tragic as this accident was, it was a reminder to me, that life can throw you curve balls in an instant and to not take your life, or the life of your loved ones for granted. Tell people that you love them, tell them what they mean to you and make as many memories as possible because you don't know when their time is up. Let's honor those who have passed by making sure that we live and love to the best of our abilities ❤

    I was an AA employee at the hangar on the overnight shift. Getting my haircut and some jeans at the GAP store in Woodfield. I heard the announcement on the radio in the store that an American Airlines DC10 had crashed at O'hare. When I walked to my car, I could see the smoke about 12 miles away. When I went to work that night it was so strange and eerie! Not much work to do, just watching as they brought in body bags. Some no bigger than a lunch, maybe a hand or a head. Half of the hangar was cordoned off for about 6 months and smelled of formaldehyde. Forensic doctors were unable to identify 49 of the bodies. Remains in 7 refrigerated trailers. The unidentified remains, I was told, were flown to Los Angeles for a mass burial. A very sad and somber time! I am 70 now and it still affects me to this day. My dad was a Chicago policeman at the time and he had to be there. He also had been on duty for a crash of a plane at Midway not too long before that. United Airlines was on strike at that time so all the other carriers picked up the slack. The planes were going out heavy, (as we said), Ten Tenths full! I'm one of the people who was really there up close. Thanks!

    And to this day....there are still hauntings going on around that area.Many from the trailer park reported knocks at windows and door.They go to investigate......no one would be there.One person reported a confused man on their porch.....looking for luggage....then vanished.Many pets bark at the field where it crashed.....the dogs see something that we can not.Even one haunting inside O'Hare.....a man boarding the same gate walks away and vanishes.

    I remember reading a newspaper story about Captain Lux. He was not scheduled to work May 25 and agreed to pilot 191 because another pilot wanted Friday (The crash day) off, given the following Monday was Memorial Day. The newspaper included a picture of his auto still parked at O'Hare. I myself was on an outbound CNW Commuter Train (Northwest Route) and passed through Mount Prospect less than 2 hours after the crash. I was unaware of the accident until I got home.

    My belief is the violence that erupted after Dr. King's murder was not just because of that, but because of the world. Think about it . . . there was a war going on in Vietnam, millions of people were protesting it. I think by the time Dr. King was killed, the world was fed up and people took to the streets.

      My best friends husband worked out of a construction yard to the left of the end of that runway and south of the Higgins road by the trailer park. They had finished early and were fueling up equipment when the DC-10 flew over side ways and rolling upside down. He thought it was going to crash into where they were it was so close. Most of the jets when they are taking off are very close and loud. Common. This plane made a whispering wind sound with very little to no engine noise. It still haunts him to this day watching it fly over and behind the trees. When it hit the ground shook so violently like an earthquake. Then the smell of the fire. The worst event he's ever witnessed..

      First one was in Puerto Rico in 1972, Prinair flight 191 stalled after an abort landing and go around. Second was American Airlines at ORD airport in 1979. Third was Delta Airlines flight 191 in 1985 in Dallas landing in the middle of a severe thunderstorm. Finally in Aug 2006, Delta Connection operated by Comair flight 191 crashed while trying to take off - ran off the end of the runway and slammed into the ground, killing 49 of the 50 people on board. FYI, I googled this flight number and found the above data.

    Today, I heard the news story on Newsradio 78 about the baker who refused to make a cake for a homosexual wedding.Here are my comments. Several years ago I went to look for an apartment in a 2 flat. The owners were homosexuals who would live upstairs. I would not be comfortable in that situation and so I found another place to live not far away. But reverse the situation, if I was the landlord and I would not be comfortable renting my upstairs apartment to two homosexuals, then I could be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Yesterday I heard almost the same story-a baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a homosexual wedding is going to be prosecuted for discrimination. Something doesn’t seem right. I see discrimination against someone because of his skin color, his religious beliefs or his ethnicity, but not because of his choice of a lifestyle. -- Bruce Sutchar 5972 Danby Court Hanover Park, IL 60133

    • @StevenAlpert
      @StevenAlpert 8 лет назад

      +Bruce Sutchar This isn't a forum, this is the comment section of RUclips. But to respond, the word "Discrimination" is defined as "The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things." If you insist there is a word for these people "homosexuals" you've categorized them. So we have established homosexuals are a category of people therefore capable of being discriminated against. Now, why are you uncomfortable with homosexuals living above you? Could it be you fear they will do something to effect you or your life? If so you're being prejudice, and that's the definition of discrimination. If you try to justify it by saying homosexuality is a "Choice" besides being wrong, you also don't seem to comprehend that religion is also a choice, I can choose and change my religion at will. Today I'm a Mormon, tomorrow I'm Jewish, simple as that. But you say judging on that is discrimination. What was making a wedding cake for a Homosexual couple going to do to effect the bakers life? Nothing. So why did they choose not to make it? They are prejudice towards homosexuals. By refusing to do what they would otherwise do for anyone else is discrimination. Also, don't post your name and address on the internet, unless you want to face the wrath of the internet.

I think the DC10 in Chicago was traveling at about 200mph with parts stalling so practically falling with little horizontal movement. The plane that hit the Pentagon was probably flying 550 to 600 MPH, clean aerodynamically. Take that speed, add the mass of the plane and the mass of the building - you are not left with a lot to look at .

I grew up in Chicago and from a small child our parents and teachers taught us to remember our home phone number (If we had a phone) and the numbers to the Police and fire dept... If I remember right the Police Dept was (PO5-1313) The Fire Dept No# was (FI5-1313) Someone correct me if I'm wrong... I still remember my home number and my Grandmothers... Our home No# was CO7-6934 and my Granny's No# was 871-0497 all in the 312 area code... It's funny how someone can remember stuff like this after almost 50 years. With the technology these days, I doubt if kids can memorize any phone number at all...
