Hiya, I agree. Although I didn't spend that much time in Kyoto specifically, it was easy to find delicious food for moderate prices. Been to nice restaurants, local popular backstreet soba places, random kiosks that didn't have a massive queue during lunch hours, and, of course, konbini. In the end, the most expensive thing was eating beef in Kobe, (and maybe a yakiniku dinner with a wagyu spead for two, and we actually chose the small plate), but I was ready for it and worth the price. Oh and I don't know if you'd say the same for Germany. =) We were used to having "all-you-can-eat sushi" in Italy (a bit of an excessive indulgence, and we actually stopped going for it that often once we returned from Japan XD), but anyway, having the stomach ready for a giant feast, I thought I might lose myself in Kura, wanting to eat everything and then making it the most expensive sushi meal. But in the end, it was just a full experience that fed me with moderation, the conveyor belt, the fish, the games, and the boundless matcha. I took a lot out of that experience, plus the other sushi places I visited afterwards.🤤

Don't feel out of place because of your age. My Dad went to Salzburg Austria when he was 49 to study both economics and advance his German language in a school there and enjoyed it thoroughly even tho almost all the students were college age. Just have lots of fun and learn a lot.

Do you do a part-time job too while studying Japanese in Kyoto? I'm from Thailand and studying in Nara-prefecture now. 😂 Kinda regret a little bit since I come with contract of study to be nursing care worker but found out that it don't suit my style.

went there last week. i got fever because it was so cold.

Spent 6 weeks camping at the foot of Mt.Fuji . There was an Japanese Army base that we did our winter military training . Wasn't to bad but we had all our needs met courtesy of the US Govt . our employer . Not much around Fuji at the time as it wasn't yet inundated with tourists like today. We just took the train into a large city if we had a couple of days free. After the training exercise we would sail back to our home base on Okinawa. Found the Japanese to be very polite (of course) and the folks living around Mt.Fuji seemed to be used to our visits with a passing curiosity of seeing American Marines . No Go Pro footage but great photos of Fuji and Tokyo etc.. But then again this was in 1971 . 😝 High adventure as long as there was no shooting.😉
