One thing that helped me with barre chords is to tuck your elbow in towards your side. This kind of allows for a more natural wrist position. It also may be easier to practice lower on the neck and then move your way up. Hope this helps man keep at it!

So grab the guitar as hard as you can use your ring finger first place it on the front you need it to then move your pinky finger to the fret it needs to your pointer and in or middle finger or the strongest so you should be able to move them wherever you need to You're welcome

You can use the same shapes going up the fretboard but you also have to change the open string by how ever far you go up. For the F Major chord, its one fret higher then the E Maj chord. You would use your 1st finger (index) to bar the first fret down on all strings, like a capo, which covers those open strings that didnt require a finger for the open Emaj chord. Then you use the remaning three fingers to create the E maj/min shape. This creates a bar chord for Fmaj. That shape is moveable all the way up and down the neck. Hope that helps! Have fun!

"Moveable chord shapes" only work if there are no open strings. If you only strum the fretted notes it will sound right

This is the type of thing that would take too many words to explain in a comment section. To put in simple terms, something like an F major would look similar to an E major but with the root note(the note F) being barred. Look up a sheet of all the notes on a fretboard in E standard and you'll technically be able to play any chord you want as an A major chord(which I'm guessing you're used to playing open) can technically be played on the 5th fret for example.

The very first thing you need to learn is the diatonic scales. These sort of chords come from this. You can take the first third and fifth note out of any diatonic scale and it will be the "major" happy sound tonality that you're looking for. If you take the third note and flat it down (1 fret back) it will be a minor in the chord combination and it will have a sad tonality. So the first of the diatonic scales is "doe re me fa so la ti". Use doe, me and so. Flat the me for the minor version.

So yeah what you're missing in the "moving the shape up a half step" is the open strings are also apart of the shape. So you need to move those notes up a half step also. That's achieved by using your first finger to bar across the whole first fret effectively moving the nut up a fret. And then using your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, finger to play the Emajor shape you know up a fret. We call this a Barre Chord. You can do this for lots of different shapes! Just do the e chord fretting without your index finger, then when you move the chord up a fret for the f, press down on all the strings on the first fret with your index finger. That shape you can move all up and down the neck

Yeah dude I get what you mean, super simple mistake to make. Look up an actual F chord and compare it to the E chord, those notes do move up one fret, but you have to add in a bar with your index finger for all of those open strings. You can put an F shape anywhere on the fretboard to make a major chord, not an E shape

its probably talking about bar chords which work all the way down the fret board

To get an f chord with that same shape you’d want to use a barre chord. Since the E shape you were using used open strings you’d need to move those up a fret as well to get a proper F chord

You just need to add the ending fret with that movement. So add the ending fret by adding your finger as a straight line behind the cord shape as you go... that's a bar chord. Your guitar isn't broken you can play all the chords by half steps all the way down. Keep going man! You got this!
