In the fast-paced world that we live in, there is never a shortage of distractions, crafty marketing to get your dollars, and medicine of every kind to numb you from the reality of it all.
The purpose of supersfarm is to provide a space for our family to be able to live in the world, but not be of the world. If you so choose, we invite you to be the supersfarm family.
The growth of anything must always begin with the stewarding of a seed. supersfarm is our dropping a seed, and documenting the nurturing of it, amid a world that only mostly seeks to uproot and wholesale it.
We document our journey, not because we have figured it out, but because we believe there is a message in the journey, for everyone.
Welcome to the family! Peace to you. 💚

Просмотров 4514 дней назад
Our first deep freeze has finally arrived, in this second week of 2025. Join us as we prepare the homestead, by repairing the tarps and putting down fresh bedding for the chicken coops, harvesting some things that will not survive the freeze, like lemongrass and putting potted plants in the greenhouse.

ROSELLA/ HIBISCUS CANNIBINIS
similar journey here, congrats on your move! we're in NC
Im guessing it's turmeric (curcuma). It's has a similar smell but it's much more yellow(ish). And the biggest giveaway is the plant itself. Ginger almost looks like cane and it has much narrower leaf.
@ thank you for stopping by and dropping the feedback! I definitely agree with the leaf indicator… that’s what I was telling Super. I guess I just couldn’t accept it because I didn’t plant turmeric. 😳 But I definitely agree with you at this point. I’m excited to cook something with it. I think we might dehydrate it and make a curry seasoning. 💚
TROPICAL PLANT. TAKE IT IN.
@@kavitha4925 Thank you for the suggestion. Peace to you.
Maybe it's a curcuma?
That’s what someone else mentioned… curcuma is tumeric in English. It’s tastes like ginger. 🤔 Thank you for stopping by! 💚
Thanks for sharing fam!!!

You enjoy the cold 🥶 weather. That’s something we Floridians can live without 😂😂🙏🏽 60°, has us pulling out trench coats 🤣🤣

I would like some Roselle. Plant 🌱 Joe can I get some?
That last one looked like it needed to be harvested too!
@@AmarilloMusicAB you’re right! Thank you for stopping by. 💚
They’re beautiful 😯😍 what exactly are they/ what are they used for?
This is called roselle, its botanical name is hibiscus sabdariffa. This is used to make the popular drink, sorrel, in which the red petals (called a calyx) is brewed to make the drink. Thank you for stopping by!
I'm drinking every day 1 cup,so delicious.
Woah those look cool
I would like to obtain some SEED !
Do you sell seeds or young plants?
@@janetcorey5102 yes we do. Email me at thesupersfarm@gmail.com -Michelle
What are they?
@janetcorey5102 This is roselle. The botanical name is hibiscus sabdariffa. This plant goes by many names… Florida cranberry and sorrel are also used. We mainly harvest the red part which is called a calyx for making tea but all parts are edible. Thanks for stopping by! 💚
@ I’m a big gardener in Southern Maine. I love its structure and those buds. Just stunning ! I wonder if you can make tea with the buds or dry it for an arrangement. Thank you🌺
How can I get seeds of the plant?
@@roseperez2083 hi there. If you’re growing them, you can either let some of the calyx’s dry out completely on the plant or remove calyx from plant and take calyx petals off while keeping the seed pod in tact and let the seed pod dry out in a dry warm place for a couple of weeks. Keep them dry as possible because they mold easily. Thank you for stopping by. 💚
Uhmmmm. I need some!!!!
Beautiful. I love marigold 😊
@@kimhaz6082 me too. Thank you for stopping by! 💚
My two favorites 💙
Very nice. Where did you purchase the seeds from I would like to buy some.
@@thewhitefamilyfarmstead7783 Peace family! I can send you some seeds… we save quite a bit every year. Text hubby your address.
@@supersfarm Okay, will do. Thank you very much.
Imo, the bottom ones will likely make it till harvest. I'm not sure about your variety but mine get substantially larger and are ready in 60-80 days. If anything, I'd remove the flowers and any new formed baby fruit. Even the unripe fruit can be used to make a Cuban dessert candy.
@@RepurposeRenegade Peace. Thank you for the feedback. Now I have to research Cuban dessert candy. ☺️
About to try my first Roselle bud tomorrow. Nice setup!

Peace. You should! I was very intentional last Fall too and pleasantly surprised. Thank you for stopping by.
they look very cute what will you do with them when they grow up?
@@dr_doctor000 I agree, definitely cute. These chicks will go into one of our bantam flocks. If they are hens, depending on their coloration will be paired with a rooster, or be an elite egg layer. If a rooster, depending on his demeanor and coloration will either be paired with a hen or be a free ranger on the farm. I appreciate you stopping by and dropping a comment. Peace to you.

Normal for sweet peas. They are a early spring and late fall pea. Once it gets to a certain temp they begin to die out and grow the white powdery mildew. Welcome to to homesteading. True happiness. Good luck and enjoy.😊
Peace and blessings. 🙏🏾 We are truly enjoying the switch... its A LOT of work, because we do everything by hand (saving up for large equipment.) I only wish I had started earlier while my kids were younger so they could grow up in it. Thank you for stopping by and dropping the comment.
@@supersfarm I've been homesteading for 15 years. The only equipment outside of hand tools we use is a tiller. I was turned on to permaculture gardening and humble mounds and barely have use for a tiller anymore. I let my plants bolt and most everything comes back on its own each year. The traditional methods of growing just wasn't working. Rabbit manure is the answer to growing anything in any soil. It brings me joy to see others starting. It really brings a true sense of prosperity. I'm so proud of you. We'll change the world one homestead at a time. ❤
@@sea302 peace to you. That blessed me tremendously! Thank you for taking the time to express such a thoughtful message and know that I am very grateful! Thank you. 15 years! Wow, that is amazing. Super and I were talking about rabbits late last year, but never moved forward with finding out any information on them. Do you have a favorite resource for raising rabbits for poo?
@@supersfarm I purchase a pair of New Zealands. I keep four at all times. That's sufficient for my garden and my neighbors. Very cost efficient as well. I can't express enough what it's does for the soil and the plants. It's a game changer.
@@sea302 I'll look in to it now. Thank you!
Your really underrated keep upp the good work ❤
Peace. Thank you for stopping by and dropping a comment! We share our journey to encourage someone who might be thinking about this lifestyle but is unsure. We are city folks and this is all new to us and we just felt our falling forward might help someone. Thank you for the compliment. 💚
@@supersfarmNo problem
You may want to test your soil for acidity. Blackberries do well in acidic soils where others can have issues with nutrient deficiencies because the nutrients become immobilized in the soil. The pH of the soil can be neutralized with the application of the appropriate amount of lime which increases also increases the nutrient holding capacity or cation exchange capacity (CEC). You could talk to your county extension office about this subject as well
Peace. Interesting. Thank you for dropping such a detailed recommendation. I have a soil tester that I was planning on doing this season. Maybe I'll share a video of that and the results. We do know here in E.TX the soil was historically acidic and there's a friendly debate as to whether its because of all the pine trees.
@@supersfarm you’re welcome! I actually just took a soil science course and generally where there are more pine trees we are more likely to see leeching of the color of clays because the acidity from the pine needles comes out in the rain and translocates clays and nutrients downward so we would see a gray layer followed by clays in the lower layers if we were to look at a cross section of the soil.
@@simonriley4375 now that is fun! A soil science course... wow, I think I would've liked to be in something like that. And it is interesting that the pine needles cause leaching. Can't argue with the science. What is your field of study? You seem to have a knack for taking complicated subject matter and putting it in a way that is understandable for the common folks. 😁 I appreciate you sharing.
