For real! With the apps available that utilize B4UFly and the FAA database, there is no reason to be somewhere you shouldn't. Which app do you use?

Super straightforward. You can do it on a cellphone. We used the Boy Scouts Version, it will teach you something and then quiz you on it. Should take about 30 minutes.

I think this has been the story for what feels like the past 5 years. Cheap/Affordable electronics are likely to go up quite a bit in price soon.

I agree. I had read that several other countries had this in place a few years ago. I do think we will get some people to push the limits, and then get publicly fined/educated so everyone knows the FAA can see where these drones fly.

@@sprattronicslearninglab actually the regulations used to be pretty lax, at least for what you'd call recreative. You don't even need to pass something like TRUST, just register with EASA ( European FAA counterpart) and that's it. But of course each country adds regulations on top of that, specially when it comes to flying in inhabited areas. But yeah, for the most part it has always been assumed that you knew the rules beforehand. Which by the way are pretty similar to FAA rules. I guess it's also a bit of a cultural thing. When you see a "mini 3 range test" video from some guy taking off from his backyard, it's usually American or British. You rarely see a German or a Dutch do something like that, and when they do, they have their A2 permits and an army of spotters 😋

For real. Three days after posting this video, I see DJI removing GEO Fencing. Not too sure how long for it to roll out completely. I still get hit with a 196' (60m) ceiling at my park even after updating the database. I can bypass it by activating my GEO Unlock License. I hope folks know to stay out of certain areas, the hobby already gets enough flack.

I like that strategy. I have only been able to get one year at a time, glad you are able to not worry about GEO Fences for three years.

80% of consumer drones sold are DJI. As of January 13th, 2025 it may not be an issue anymore. DJI is updating their GEO Fencing to basically give final approval to the drone pilot. It will be your responsibility to stay out of trouble. Do you have another brand you recommend?

If you are on a DJI remote, swipe down from the top and select take a screen shot or screen capture. A workaround is to upload PNG or JPG version of your TRUST.

I know it adds to the "Why is China requesting this information" argument. The FAA just put in flight restrictions for California, due to the fires. It took DJI a few days to create the GEO Fence. In that time, someone managed to crash their DJI drone into a firefighting plane.

@@sprattronicslearninglab I live in southern California, and trust me, you do not want to fly a drone during strong Santa Ana winds... unless you don't mind the drone going the opposite direction of where you're telling it to go.

Thank you! I wanted to help someone else who ran into the same problem as me. The last video I watched was a cell phone video cutting away to hide the screen. Same tutorial, but hard to follow. I thought we could make a more clear video.
