Except it’s not? His real name was Henry McCarty but he went by William H. Bonney and he’s buried in New Mexico at the Old Fort Sumner cemetery close to where he was shot. I’ve actually been to his grave and this ain’t it. As for William Henry Roberts, he was a man who gained fame in the 1940s and 1950s by claiming he was Billy the Kid and that Billy never died in 1881. His story has no evidence to back it up and just fed into conspiracy theories. At the time there were tons of people claiming to be old outlaws like Billy the Kid or Jesse James, none of whom had any substance to their stories.
