Years ago when we visited Sichuan, we met some people from Guizhou who told us if we liked mountains, we should visit Guizhou. So here we come

Kyoto, once capital of Japan has many beautiful gardens, temples and streets and is a very interesting place to visit.

Kanazawa, also known as “Little Kyoto” is a beautiful and colorful city. It is about an hour train ride from Toyama and features one of Japan’s top three gardens, the Kenrokuen Garden. The Chaya districts are well preserved where visitors can see houses built between 1603-1868.

On day one, we took the train from Toyama to Tateyama, the train ride had the magnificent view of Tateyama, the Alps of Japan. Due to Jan 1’s earthquake, the road from Tateyama to Kurobe Gorge was closed, so we went to Kurobe Gorge on a second day. The train ride from Unazuki to Nekomata turned out to be one of my most amazing rides.

From Toyama, we took the train to Tawaoka where we changed to Himi Line and got off at Amaharashi, a small beach town surrounded by mountains and ocean. Amaharashi sits on Noto Peninsula where the 7.5 degree earthquake hit on January 1 this year. Watch the video if you want to see what Amaharashi is like.

From Nojiri, we took a local train to Myoko-Kogen, then changed train to Joetsumyoko. At Joetsumyoko, we got on the bullet train, a.k.a. Shinkansen to Toyama, a quiet city by the sea and Alps of Japan.

About two and half hour train ride from Tokyo and in Nagano Prefecture, Lake Nojiri is a quiet resort that has beautiful lake and mountain views as well as hiking and kayaking activities.
