A Live Honeybee Colony Removal from the eave/soffit of a house in Ganado, Texas. In this video we see the whole process of removing a Honeybee Colony from inspecting and identifying the infestation, to opening the structure and removing, to capturing the queen and putting the Colony in a hive at the bee yard.

Attempting to Calm Down an Aggressive Africanized Bee Colony - Part 1

Angry, Aggressive bees are no fu. to work with and can present a severe hazard. This is an attempt to calm this Aggressive Africanized bee colony down a little by adding some space to keep them busy. When a honeybee colony runs out of space to build comb and pack in resources, they go into defensive mode. This is an effort to flip that switch back to production mode. #africanized #killerbee #ho...

      So how many colonies do you manage exactly? How long have you been a beekeeper that specializes in aggressive bees? I've been doing this just shy of 10 years, and manage 150-200 colonies at any given time. ALL of the colonies I manage are wild bred. "It is better to be thought an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove it." Here we are just shy of 2 weeks later and this colony is now calm enough to mow the grass on a gas powered zero turn without setting them off. Tell me again how giving bees in a honey bound hive doesn't give them so.ethi g to do besides guard duty...

    That hive was no joke. It is also assumed that all wild Honey bee colonies here in Southern California are Africanized as well. Indeed, theme parks have had issues with bees attacking people often for no other reason than music at a nearby show being loud.

      This is typical of wild bred colonies in this area. Doubly so when the colony is honey bound. I am going to requeen this hive. I like my bees a little spicy, as the more docile they are... the more suseptible they become to small hive beetle and wax moth infiltration.

    Might I suggest getting a bigger smoker !!

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering 21 день назад

      The size of the smudge pot is adequate... the issue was me experimenting with a new fuel for it. Normally I use pine straw to start it up then fill with dry manure. These wood chips will serve as a good replacement for the pine straw but need to use a longer smoldering fuel for the actual smoke production. It just gets tiresome to stink like manure smoke every time I have to fire up a smudge pot lol.

    • @stevoklopping
      @stevoklopping 21 день назад

      @@OccultEngineering I was actually being sarcastic with my comment .My understanding about using smoke while working bee hives is that it triggers a survival response to a forest fire causing them to be directed to filling up with honey in case the hive catches fire thus redirecting their focus from the bee keeper . That is my personal experience with working with bees for 5 years and 150 hives . Hoping a walk away split will create a calmer gene line with emergency cells and wild drones( who very well may have african genes themselves ) is a gamble . Please give us a follow up with that hive after your experiment .

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering 21 день назад

      @stevoklopping I have just under 10 years under my belt as a keeper/removal specialist working with these spicy south texas bees. I studied under Dr Cary Voss of Victoria during my apprenticeship. At one point we were running up to 250 Tanzanian top bar hives between several apiaries in Victoria county, the largest non commercial outfit in the region. I just returned to South Texas after spending 5 years in the middle of the Chattahoochee National forest in the North Georgia mountains and decided to run langstroth and variants here at my folks place when I dipped my toes back in the honey water. I am yet undecided if I want to try walk away, or if I want to graft brood frames from a gentler gene... or just straight buy a lab bred queen from beeweaver. It is an experiment for sure. I'd like this colony to maintain some of the behavioral traits our spicy variety carry in this region, while calming them down a bit so my pops can mow the lawn without a bee suit on. Our spicy natured bees do some interesting things beyond prolific population and honey production... they actually physically remove small hive beetles from the hive and play "bouncer" to wax moths which both plague colonies down here much worse than northern varieties. We don't typically worry about v.destructor down here. You are entirely correct about typical smoke response behavior but I'd add the end result of blocking pheromone receptors thereby limiting the colony's ability to coordinate an attack. I will shoot update videos with this hive and I'm getting better about setting up cameras for removals and swarm captures, and will be sifting through countless hours of video from before I went to Georgia of interesting bee behavior. I did not intend for my response to seem condescending, I have trouble comprehending sarcasm being "on the spectrum". Life can be challenging as a puzzle piece sometimes. I appreciate you for watching and commenting. I still don't understand why my little nothing of a channel is growing, but if anything I upload helps someone in some way, I think it makes it worth the effort.

Both cylinders got approximately same temperature and both exhaust pipes got same temp gas... Could be because of an old gas with a winter additive in it?

    • @OccultEngineering
      @OccultEngineering 23 дня назад

      It is possible. Try draining the old fuel, fill with fresh fuel... and maybe try adding some Bluw Star "Star Tron" fuel enzyme additive. It does not take a whole bottle, 1 bottle treats 48 gallons of fuel.
