Удивительно то, как Чайковский щадил зрителя и старался нарочито быть понятным, демократичным. Но не в этой симфонии. Здесь он полностью забывает всех и полностью доверяется своему творческому порыву. Это даже не Вагнеровская, а Малеровская партитура. С какой ювелирностью и кропотливостью Чайковский выводит каждую ноту, каждый звук. Чайковский гений в абсолюте. Нет в 19 веке гениальнее никого, Лист, Вагнер, Франк, Берлиоз.... нет, Чайковский шире, глубже, никакой поверхностности, только честность и глубина. Эта симфония настоящая энциклопедия инструментовки, гармонии, музыкальной формы. В ней сосредоточены не только открытия 19 века, но и пророчески намечены все открытия 20 века. Более слов нет, после Онегина, Щелкунчика и пятой я не верю, что это Чайковский. Просто что-то невероятное

Played this piece and this version on WUVT-FM in the 1970s. Evocative, and one of my favorites of all of the Tchaikovsky I have known. MTT is descended from Russian immigrants. He & the Boston nailed this one.
