Even though this was “just semifinals,” this was probably the most memorable experience I ever had as a fan. The crowd was going crazy, the corps staff had multiple people pumping up the crowd in the rain, the corps was hyped. It was a real moment of connection between the performers and the audience and it was transcendent. Cool show on any night, but this moment in the rain was special.
This has to be my drum break of all time. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks. I transcribed it by watching 29 year old VHS videos I found on RUclips and mostly my ear. LOL
This was the drumbreak that catapulted me into drums so many years ago. Great job! @kevinb9790
I miss all of you guys. Everyone did such an amazing job this night! I really hope everyone's doing well. By the way, watching this after thumbing through the top 12 of 2024.... we were such a great corps in 1997!! I'm so proud of all of us. Thank you for a wonderful age out year! - Michael Causey, Soprano 1995, 1996, Mello 1997 (age out year)
Incredible!!
thank you, to all of you who I had the pleasure of marching with, I hope all of you are doing well and having a wonderful life. we did it. we were really good. You all were really really good, and I love that about you. - Michael Causey, Soprano 1995-1996, Mellow 1997 (ageout year).
Nice and close, but not 100% accurate to what we actually played finals night.
Yeah, I tried hard to replicate what I saw and heard from various RUclips videos. Are you any good with MuseScore? Maybe you can help me fix it!
NICE!!!! I was in the stands finals night and loved this feature from the moment I heard it.
RIP Robert. Thank you for giving me some of the best moments of my life!!!!!
Rest in piece sir. Thank you for this great music and giving a 16yr old kid a chance at playing it
The pit is WAYYYYY too loud or they probably would have placed higher!
Interesting observation. Although, I wonder if it had anything to do with micriphone placement. I marched this show and the microphones were placed directly infront of the pit behind the DM podium. You can see them after the drum solo with the gray-colored wind shileds on the mics. But who knows, 8th place was an amazing acheivement for this corps and we peaked at the right time. We never beat Crown all summer until the last show before finals. It was an epic and emotional week led by Dr. Robert Smith and staff. We maintained 8th place all three nights of finals despite very inconsistent score totals and reveicivng a tie with Crossmen finals night. www.soundmachine.org/dci/96recaps.htm
Hahaha it's called playing with SACK(weight) up front. Digging in baby, before things got mic'd up up front. Nuff said
Oh man, I remember just suddenly getting drenched during this performance. What a great time that was! 2022 Carolina Crown should have taken notes from this show on how to interact with the crowd. You don't need constant narration, just some encouragement from the drum majors, etc.
It was exactly 12 seconds! Cool
End big you know what !!
Love that show. Would've given my left n*t to march that.
Forgot how good this show was.
I really wish they were still around. I'm not too encouraged to do drum corps when i have to spend so much money and travel just to get somewhere decent. Indoor percussion is the plan for now tho i think id enjoy this more
Back in the day it was common for the crowd to be cheering throughout A perforce because that’s how l corps planned it simply by interacting with audiences drumcorps sure has changed a bit some for the better but it’s A treat to be able to go back down memory lane❤️
Such a great show. This definitely would compete in today's competition with minor tweaks.
Brings back memories. This was my age out year. 12 seconds to the moon
Best summer of my life, Semi-Final night was our best show by about 20%. Wish I'd kept in touch with more of ya'll.
yep, it was an electric night man. EVERYONE was focused and giving 100% absolutely. What a wonderful memory; thank you all so much.
Such a magical and entertaining year from Magic! Such a departure from 96. Did most of the staff remain from 96 into 97.
Yes, almost the entire staff stayed the same
Awesome! You da man!
The drum major's reaction when putting on the sunglasses was priceless!
He borrowed those Oakleys from my best friend. I don't think he ever got them back.
Best summer of my life.
The first DCI rehersal & show I saw EVER in person @ Rice University in Houston.
@@abramquinn7726 Oh geez, I remember that day! I had to "run" the clinic, and it was like 130º on the field! We all crawled into the air-conditioned locker rooms afterwards and collapsed
@@BrassTeacher ❤❤❤❤❤❤
@@Disrupterds I joined up when the tour came to Dallas. Super fun to spend that summer with the corps after I graduated high school.
I miss everyone from that year. So happy I marched :)
Such an awesome show/year!
4:36 uniforms and formation looks familiar
We never quite understood why the opener ended in a crown set. Having said that, Magic was the original purple team...
@@jwillis9499 we did, but maybe not everyone was aware. most of those sets were of Mardi Gras symbols: crown, mask, etc.
That opener was fantastic! The rain and the crowd freaking out about it made it even better.
Oh man what a great fun show! I remember being there, almost a high school senior with some of my band friends and we just went bonkers at this show. The next few corps seemed boring to me (at that time - I really like that Ben Hur show BK did!). What a contra section... that ballad is still one of my fav ballads in any corps show. Gorgeous. I miss Magic, the activity really needs a corps that had the imagination and "dare to dream" attitude that they had.
man that was a fun show!!
One of the most memorable moments of my life. Thank you for posting!
