For me to live in another county would be to live a better life. What's the point of moving and having to budget in order to survive will not be what i would personally want. If you can't go out or eat out often or travel frequently, then it's not for me. Thailand used to be cheap in 20+ years ago, but last year i found it awfully expensive. ( for me as we like to do a lot and eat good food) E.g Taxi from Kamala to pattaya was approx 500 TB each journey. I wouldn't be able to live off £1,000/£2,000 a month i would need a house with a pool for starters 😂 not boxed up in a small high rise. I'm a newbie to Thailand (first trip this year) and I need to ask a couple of questions. Some of them may sound silly. But hopefully one of you guys in the comments (that have been to Pattaya several times) can help me out. I would really appreciate it. 1. When I fly into the Airport in Bangkok, what all do I need when I go to immigration? If I'm only there for a two week holiday, do I only have to show them my Passport? Or do I have to fill out paperwork for a 30 day vacation Visa or something like that? If so, where do I get that paperwork so I don't have to stand in the long line twice? 2. I have a lay-over in Japan for 4 hours before I get on my connecting flight to Thailand......does this mean I have to go to immigration at the Japan Airport too? Even though I'm not staying in Japan, just there to catch another flight? 3. Is it a good idea to arrive in Thailand with some Thai Baht already on hand? I can exchange money for Thai Baht back home before I leave....my bank will do it for free, it just takes a day or two for it to come in. Good idea or not really necessary?? 4. Can you trust the safe-box in your hotel room? I'm either staying at the Queen Vic on Soi 6 or the Beach Front Resort on Soi 4.....so how trustworthy are the room safes?? 5. If a girl works in a beer bar (and is available to be bar-fined)....does this mean she is of legal age?? If not, how do I make sure the girl is over18?? Thanks for any help you can offer.

Like others say, self-dicipline. I have a feeling many also live too expensive lifestyle. In the beginning I lived in a 1 room apartment chain. Only had fan for the first 3 years, well it worked. After living in Koh Samui and how they try to rip you off even they know you lived there I moved to Chiang Mai. Very nice people, no one tried rip you off. Today I don't know, don't live in Chiang Mai but in another place. I live in the jungle in north of Thailand and think it's great. No tourist prices etc. On the other hand not easy to find stuff so Lazada have been very good for buying Ray flour etc when i make bread. Before I couldn't get anything. What is annoying is immigration and you only get 1 year at a time Non-O. And you can't apply for VISA until one month before it's ended but take 6 weeks to get it...

I hear you about nights out drinking. Luckily I got this out of my system living overseas in the military. Wild and fun nights. Now I'm too old for that.

It’s still no where near uk prices. Not even close. Even if you have 3 course and drinks in a nice restaurant in Thailand it’ll be the same price as a shit meal in Wetherspoons or macdonalds in uk. Rents 50% of uk. Fuel 40% I’m spending as an example £30 A DAY on fuel for work in UK. £30 lasts my car nearly a MONTH in Thailand. If you’re settled / married you don’t do 50-80% of the ‘nights out’ costs mentioned above. Drink is £1 a pint. You can go out with £10 on a night out EASY. £10 in uk mate doesn’t even get you to a pub 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ Cinema is a reclining sofa ticket + drink and popcorn = £5. In uk u can’t do that. Or stay in and watch the football in uk from PL to National league for free. You don’t have to go out to have fun. Even if £1/2 a beer is too expensive then buy beer from 7/11 and drink at home with friends 🤷🏼‍♂️ Sorry mate but it’s literally IMPOSSIBLE to say I went back to Police state UK because Thailand was expensive?? 🤷🏼‍♂️ The roads are better the trains are better the taxis are safer no one’s being stabbed or locked up for saying it… the women are generally a LOT nicer the people are happier the costs are 50% minimum. Pattaya is the Amsterdam of Thailand. It’s not realistic place to actually live unless you are married / settled. All the clubs and bars there are owned by Russian mafia so costs are higher also.
