So honestly if another country has F-14s and Somehow is an export customer of the SU-57. It definitely makes sense then.
People think you HAVE to stall for it to be considered a complete Cobra Maneuver. This isn’t true. The effect desired when executing the Cobra can be achieved without the stall. The reason the maneuver mentions stalling is because the Russians have planes that cannot perform this maneuver without stalling. An F-22 can perform this maneuver without stalling because of its vectored thrust. Due to the surface area of the F-22 it can still act as a full body airbrake. You won’t get the stall. But you’ll get the same desired effect
Uh no, a cobra cannot be performed without a stall. A fundamental part of doing a cobra is exceeding the critical AoA, which ALWAYS causes the wings to stall, thats what the critical AoA is, the AoA at which the wings can no longer produce lift no matter how fast you are going. Any aircraft pulling AoA beyond its critical AoA is stalling, did you mean at normal stall speed?
You could do a similar maneuver if you have the skill to do it, which obviously Maverick has. This isn't something that's part of the rulebook for the aircraft. The F-14D was a very capable fighter. It carried an impressive and extremely intimidating weapon load. AIM-54 Phoenix missiles weren't a joke. 64 mile range and moving stupid fast. If that Tomcat hard the right load, it still wouldn't have made much of a difference in reality.
@@Ujiyo While the F14 is impressive the F-16 is its superior in virtually every way aside from speed. The F-16 is also listed as Cobra capable. But it’s only the F-16 VISTA which is a training aircraft.
@@informationoverload2487 As far as I know, the F-14D was the fastest fighter we've ever had. Top speed of mach 2.35 or 1,802.45mph The F-14 also carrier better weapons. The other in Redmond Boeing Field. I've seen one of them. Heard both being tested at 0500 every damn morning.
The maneuver from the Su-57 was NOT a cobra. That was a pedal turn into a falling leaf. Huge difference. Cobra is a full-on stall at 80-90° pitch and then leveling out at 0° back to stable flight/attack. Pedal turn like the Su-57 there is a stall and using only the pedals to turn the aircraft to maintain stability post-stall. The falling leaf after the pedal allowed the pilot to regain speed and get into the saddle to take shots, which the pilot did. He still ended up losing though because plot armor.

You only have so many flares. On gen 5, it might be 3 sets of flares. You don't need them as much in stealth aircraft. Missiles have a hell of a time tracking something they can't see. Evasion is the name of the game. If you have to take a shot while being tracked, then you use flares. Otherwise, evade. Rooster is kind of a pussy relying solely on his flares.
