Also the thing with snow white is cleaning and keeping is how she learned to stay safe. Back at the kingdom what is she forced to do in order to stay in the castle, clean.
Rapunzel's reaction before touching the grass suggests to me that, even if she has tried to leave the tower before, she has always turned back before actually going through with it. She asks Gothel to take her to see the floating lights - she wanted her supposed mother to be there to support her while doing something scary, like, leaving the only place she's ever known for the first time. Something cool to me about Brave is, twenty years ago or so prior, the movie would end with the triumphant moment of Meridah winning the archery competition "for her own hand", but this movie instead has that as an inciting incident and, among other things, shows her having to deal with the political fallout of the other kingdoms being offended by her refusal to marry one of their heirs to reaffirm the alliance - forcing Meridah to explore diplomacy, finding a way to keep the alliance strong without marrying herself off, and thus learn there is value in the skills her mother has tried to teach her. Something I love about Moana is how she's shown accepting her role as a future leader early on and working to be good at it, showing her investment and love for her people. She never stopped wanting to explore the ocean, but when she went on her quest to restore Te Fiti's heart, Moana's goal was to save those she loved, not *just* seizing a chance to get off the island because she was bored and frustrated of being stuck there.
"How dare a stylized animated character be stylized!" I think the 'moral' of The Princess And The Frog is the same as Cinderella: "Sometimes we all need help." Specifically, that accepting help to achieve your goal does not invalidate that you worked hard to reach that goal. (In response to an argument I've seen, that Tiana marrying royalty and having Louis help intimidate the realtors into selling her the building means her dream of owning a restaurant was handed to her at the end and the hard work she did to try and achieve her dream on her own meant nothing.) Tiana is a proud woman and would've been offended if Lottie had offered to buy the building for her at the start of the movie. Tiana being willing to accept help at the end to make the realtors keep their word about selling her the building is a sign of growth.
The lesson from Ariel and Ursula's contract: read the terms and conditions (Ursula never included a non-interference clause, meaning she was able to stop Ariel and Eric from kissing without voiding the contract), and don't trust someone who's trying to rush you into signing something. Eric pretty explicitly took Ariel on that tour of the kingdom because it got him *away* from pining for the mystery girl who saved him. (Grimsby: "You can't just spend all your time moping about. You need to get out!") Falling for Ariel took Eric by surprise as he got to know her As A Person without thinking of her as a potential spouse. It's very sweet. If she had written him a note saying, "I'm a mermaid and I saved you but then I traded my voice to become human" ... How would he even react to that? Considering she couldn't prove it, I think Ariel made the right call not telling him. Even if he believed her, suddenly all his fantasies about Mystery Girl would be in the way of getting to know Ariel, and a kiss might not be True Love's Kiss because he loves his *idea* of her more than *actual* her. I read somewhere that the character director based Gaston on aspects of several of her ex-boyfriends, including one who became a stalker. "Not only is Gaston *not* a woman's fantasy, he is literally a woman's nightmare." Controversial take: Belle never goes out of her way to change the Beast. She just calls him on his bad behaviour. ("If you hadn't run away, this wouldn't have happened." "If you hadn't frightened me, I wouldn't have run away!" "... Well, *you* shouldn't have been in the West Wing!" "Well, *you* should learn to control your temper! Now hold still. This might sting a little.") (Side note, I feel like the whole West Wing situation could've been avoided if he just said "it's my private quarters." Belle is curious, but maybe not enough to let herself into a strange man's bedroom.) The change comes from *him* . He matures, learns to respect others, opens up emotionally, falls in love, and that's why he changes back to human - it's not *her* reward for 'fixing him', it's *his* reward for self-improvement. I feel like Belle gave serious thought to bringing Maurice back to the Beast's castle when she found him unconscious in the woods, but chose to bring him back to their house because she could guess her father was traumatized by getting locked in the dungeon and afraid of the Beast, so Maurice would recover better in surroundings more familiar and with more positive memories. Jasmine's waist is as believable as Iago's teeth. There's some questions about the princess wearing a harem girl outfit, but, Disney's Aladdin 1992 is not a paragon of cultural sensitivity, they have a whole disclaimer about that now, and also Agrabah is a fictional kingdom. As for Aladdin lying ... Jasmine only started to fall for him once she guessed he was the boy she met in the marketplace; the boy who put himself at risk to protect a stranger from harm and sympathized with her about the lack of choice she felt she had in her life, while she was the one concealing her true identity. Yes, lying=bad, but that's literally a plot point, that Aladdin has to come clean to Jasmine about who he is for them to have a trusting and healthy relationship. It is *supposed* to be a problem, which drives the story so the characters can grow.
Evil Queen: "Find her a bonny blooming glen, where she can pick wildflowers." Huntsman, thinking this is a totally reasonable request that the heir to the throne have protection outside the castle, someone familiar enough with the woods to keep her away from dangerous animals: "Yes,Your Majesty." Evil Queen: "And there, my faithful huntsman, you will *kill* her." Huntsman, shocked at the sudden swerve in the conversation: "But Your Majesty -! The little princess?!" I saw a good take a few years ago regarding Snow White becoming the dwarfs' housekeeper: "She offered services in exchange for room and board. In other words, she went out and got a job." A similar take, regarding Cinderella: "She wasn't waiting for someone to save her. Even wanting to meet the Prince was incidental to wanting to go to the ball. She just wanted a nice dress and a night off." Also, she's not passive about how she's treated. She totally complains about and sasses her stepfamily - when they cannot hear her and therefore she won't be punished for it. ("Alright, alright, I'm coming. My goodness; morning, noon, and night." "Oh, *now* what do they want?" "Maybe I should interrupt the, ah, music lesson?") We even see her venting some of her frustration onto her stepmother's cat, closing doors to bump into Lucifer and threatening to beat him with a broom when he messes up a floor she just cleaned. Lady Tremaine won't kick Cinderella out, because she's a servant who doesn't have to be paid (there is some argument that, since she's an adult by the time the plot really kicks off, *she* may actually own the house, which her father's will had her stepmother keeping 'in trust' for her), and if Cinderella did leave - where was she supposed to go? Best case scenario, she ends up a servant somewhere else. Worst case scenario, she ends up on the streets. Poor Aurora gets *really* pushed around by the narrative. The last thing she even says in the movie is when she's protesting never again being allowed to see that boy she met - who, she didn't even specifically say she *wanted* to marry yet, she just invited him over to introduce him to her family, which is a totally reasonable thing to do. My current headcanon is, when Aurora woke up and found out the boy she met in the woods and the prince she was expected to marry were the same guy, she thought she was still dreaming and she doesn't realize she's awake until several hours later.
I'd love to see a Princess with a cane or cruchs because I use a wheelchair most tales like that take place before wheelchairs
Cool
Thank you. I love these three classic princesses.
I got into Tangled and Moana more than Frozen Rapunzel is one of my favorite princesses. I like encanto.❤ I couldn't get into Frozen as much as everyone else but it's a good movie. I like Meredith
Thank you. These are my favorite. I also really love Cinderella Aurora and Snow white. Cinderella is one of my favorites as well in aurora❤ I really like Aurora and Snow White
I have trouble enjoying Pocahontas now even though it used to be my favorite movie from disney. I prefer Mulan now. Moana she's a good character and it has a good message but I live near the area where it happened as a kid. Pocahontas is a good character in the movie but what happened to her in real life is disgusting. ❤ I love Tiana and princess and the frog.
My only nitpick. Snow White isn't fourteen. She doesn't have a confirmed age. Same thing with the prince.
They complained about Ariel not writing a note to him😂 How do they know if she even knows how to write💀
So a man finding a woman beautiful/sparing her life or doing something special for her is bad? I'm confused. This whole video I was like so what if the prince did this or that because of her beauty. Are they implying a man would never help an ugly woman cause they have no proof of that lol
1:15 There IS A TOWER DOOR! We learn very late-on when Mother Gothel uses it to enter the empty tower. She hid the info from Rapunzel to aid in trapping her, physically and emotionally.
Pocahontas: something *is wrong* with her body! - drawn on North American ideals, mid-1900s ones at that - e.g. Jayne Mansfield, Raquel Welch. Jessica Rabbit is her nearest analogy. *Poor taste.*
Fab that Aladdin and Flynn/Eugene (in Tangled) are not bulky he-men. Eugene especially shows artistic triumph - 'hot guy' V-torso but entirely shrunk-down so as not to tower over Rapunzel.
11:38 Stockholm Syndrome may also be a once trapped person seeing through the 'trapper' but emotionally compelled to go along anyway. An *arguable example* exists in my extended family.
Fun fact: Cinderella's lovely opening narrative was voiced and read oh so beautifully, so touchingly - by *💥Cruella De Vil's Betty Lou Gerson!💥* How's THAT for an actress with splendid range!? 😮😂
Cinderella: workplace-bullied to furious extent, I attest fully that to walk away is *not easy.* Bully cases have multi-layers - e.g. such self-esteem smackdown that autonomy to act is crushed.
Dark forest nay-sayers, sleep alone in one! Here in BC 🇨🇦Canada, for instance: bears, coyotes, even a wolf or cougar may pass. Deer & elk (rutting stags or a fawn-protecting doe) pose dangers too.
i Love moana it became one of my favorites when it came out but i was bullied out of watching it again by my former stepfather because i have a fear of the ocean.
Idk how rapunzel isn't jacked from brushing all of her hair
Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Snow White are all girls who have been abused by a parent growing up and unfortunately people will relate to that 😢
Luna!!!!
Luna!!!!
In regards to pocahontas people saying she needs to be covered more trust me she is Powhatan women at that time would wear practically nothing on top it was cultural and they had very different standards then but disney i think took the tasteful route for their animated movie as you are not allowed to animate a topless woman for children so people begging for the historical accuracy need to understand that showing the historical accuracy of pocahontas to children would be a bad move for many reasons.
As a black woman, I think the criticism that the movie didn’t showcase a lot of racism is just stupid. 1. I don’t need a animated movie to tell me the 1920’s was a racist time. I got plenty of history to tell me that. 2. I literally just want a black character whose entire damn character isn’t suffering because she’s black. Also the complaint that she didn’t get her own palace is even dumber for me. Her palace IS her RESTAURANT. She worked her ass off for that and ain’t no way in hell she gone give it up just because she fell in love and god married. Tiana’s Place was the original time of it. At the end of the movie it’s called Tiana’s Palace. (Also why are we complaining that a black woman got her own restaurant???!!!!) 3. The racism WAS there. They were just more subtle with it then they were with Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The hell do they think the words “a woman of YOUR background” meant? They didn’t need to call her a slur every 5 minutes for me to realize they were probably talking about her race. As for the frog criticism…..I personally wasn’t really bothered by it but I understand why it would bother others. Especially knowing that Disney has a track record of turning their characters of color into animals. Tiana and Lottie’s friendship is literally one of the best things about the movie. They are friends despite the fact that society wouldn’t at all even encourage it to happen. Lottie never treats Tiana differently. Lottie literally chose to kiss Naveen because it meant that she could help Tiana. Lottie literally have Tiana the rest of the money she needed for that restaurant before it fell apart. Hell when Tiana’s dress was ruined, Lottie picked her up and gave her a dress out of her own closet without zero hesitation.
What I find hilarious about the people shaming Ariel for trusting Ursula is that they forgot SHE IS LITERALLY ONLY 16 YEARS OLD AND IN A EMOTIONALLY VULNERABLE PLACE. Literally everyone can make mistakes at that point but especially when we’re teenagers. She’s not even old enough to fully comprehend red flags. Literal adults ended up trusting Ursula. So yeah I think I can excuse someone infinitely younger falling for it. Also I have no problem with people criticizing Jasmine’s design. Her character as a whole? We have a problem. She was spoiled sure but she never wanted to be to begin with. She wanted to be out of that castle and just live and have friendship with people other than a tiger. She literally calls out Aladdin for lying to her. She also stands up to Jafar even when it’s clear she’s no match for him. (I hate to say it but I’m convinced the people saying Belle should’ve gotten with Gaston and she was rude to him literally dream of men like Gaston. Belle isn’t the type of girl who’s impressed by your status alone. She’s looking at you as a person. And she could see that even if Gaston had a good reputation, he was NOT a good man. He was literally a sexist, narcissistic, entitled prick who wanted a trophy wife. He never gave a shit about Belle as a person or even saw her as anything other than her looks. Men like Gaston are ABUSERS)
The way I wanna fight somebody whenever they make up shit about Ariel and Cinderella-
I would love to see more off that from you❤
Yes, Aladdin lied. But here's the thing: he made up for it and proved his true worth later. He came back to rescue Jasmine and her father, he bravely took on Jafar knowing he had no chance and still put up a good fight, and then he used his wits to manipulate Jafar into wishing himself into being imprisoned in a lamp. And then, he willingly chose to free The Genie, refusing to break his vow despite The Genie's willingness to stay in the lamp for his friend. A man who can fight, will defend those he loves, is brave, and will own up to mistakes and bad things he's done while doing better? It's no wonder The Sultan decided to change the law, he may not have been a great judge of character, but he clearly saw Aladdin was worthy of power and would treat his daughter well.
To everyone who complains that Jasmine is too thin - LOOK AT JAFAR there's the outrage about him?? 😂
Sleeping Beauty is often named after a rose. In most of the versions of the fairytale she pricks her finger by a rose in fact 🌹
As an arab we love aladdin, try to find an arab who doesnt like that film, and honestly i prefer portraying arab culture like this over a LOT of other movies potray us
Out of all of them, the criticism towards Cinderella annoys me the most cause it's painfully obvious that these people don't understand how being in abusive relationship can effect someone 'Why didn't she just leave?' Not only was it her childhood home, but she literally has nowhere to go. If she did leave she be stuck on the streets "Why didn’t she stand up to her abusers" when she tried to explain to Tremaine what had happened with Anastasia and the mice, Tremaine immediately interrupts her and doubles her work load. Tremaine knows she has a lot of power over Cinderella and will gladly use it to further manipulate her. Not only that but if she did try to stand up to them, Tremaine would most likely punish her for it (like how she had her daughters destroy her dress and how she locked Cinderella in her room in order to make sure she couldn't fit the slipper) 'She only went to the ball to meet the prince' no she didnt. She wanted to go to the ball to just have fun, she met the prince by change (heck she didn't even know he was a prince at first) heck before this she didn't even mention once looking for someone romantically 'Her wanting to find a partner and being feminine makes her passive and weak' as a woman myself this annoys me to no end. There's absolutely nothing wrong with some women having traditionally feminine qualities, being gentle, kind, loving, soft-spoken and friendky doesn't make you weaker. Also some people DO want to find a supportive partner and that also doesn't make them weak either. This type of criticism just screams sexism in a new coat of paint and i hate this mindset that showing kindness somehow makes you weak The funny thing is that Cinderella was actually Walt Disney's favourite princess, because he was able to relate to her struggles. I'm glad that more people are starting to realise just how unfair a lot of the criticism towards the princesses were, especially with Cinderella
With the historical documents and dates being contradictory there’s also the question of whether John Smith ever met a Pocahontas. Also looking behind the scenes the creators were mostly telling the story based on legends around Pocahontas rather than history. Also I checked and in Powhatan culture Pocahontas is actually a common name/nickname among girls meaning “silly girl” or “little mischief” and the one we talk about had the childhood name Matoaka growing up before gaining the name Pocahontas and even her mother had the name Pocahontas
In jasmine’s case there’s also the fact that in the story and time period IT’S THE LAW that she has to marry a prince so not only does Aladdin feel unworthy but to even legally date her he’d have to be a prince and then the story shows that said law inhibits both Jasmine’s and Aladdin’s freedom to love freely, carve their own futures or do anything for their community. They both make a love connection with Aladdin thinking Jasmine’s a sweet regular girl who feels trapped like him and could see a future with and Jasmine liking Aladdin for his mind, good character and because he represents the freedom and companionship, then when trying and failing to help him she decides to challenge the marriage system by making sure Jafar can’t abuse power over others with “At least some good will come out of my being forced to marry. When I am queen I will have the power to get rid of you” but is still holding out for the right guy. And she does know why Aladdin lied with “That stupid law! This isn’t fair! I love you”
Also as far as a time skip to weddings do y’all have any idea how long it takes to plan a grand wedding let alone a royal one!?! Grimsby in Little Mermaid even mentions this when Ursula as Vanessa has Eric under mind control “these things do take time” and it’s only a ship with people from Eric’s kingdom that afternoon and the Vanessa wedding is presented as stiff, small and dull vs Ariel’s wedding where both humans and merfolk are present at the wedding and it’s more joyous and grander in scale.
I do get a kick out of how Cinderella reacts in shock when she hears her stepmother saying the prince is in love and looking for the mystery girl who left her glass slipper behind and she’s so shocked she drops a tray like “GASP! The…prince…!?!” lol you can hear the gears going in her head
i just binge watched the whole series - it was very interesting!!!

I'll be honest, I think the remake of Mulan is way more sexist than the original since it basically says that women are only worth something if they have magic powers or else they should be banished to the kitchen. In the original Mulan, she started out like all the other rookies but through her own wit and determination, she found the strength to overcome the challenges places before her and inspiring all the men in the army. Also, I don't get how Shang took advantage of Mulan while she was in the army. He didn't do anything to her and acted very professionally when they were working together, and when they weren't he still acted very respectfully toward her. Heck, it was her who noticed how hot he was and her who invited him for dinner. Also, did everyone just forget the Emperor himself bowed to her so she's technically higher than he ever was?
Another thing about Snow White and her cleaning the dwarves' house that people miss, is that it's their house and Snow White is a fugitive of the Evil Queen, the sole monarch and harboring her is basically a death sentence for them. Frankly, helping around the house is the least Snow can do and it shows that she's not the type of person who thinks she can get her way just because she's pretty and a princess. She knows that the Queen is hunting her and if she's found she will be killed, so this might be her last safe haven and cleverly uses the skills she acquired to be allowed to stay longer. Honestly, my opinion about the original 3 is that they're just average people but stuck in God awful situations that they're trying to escape from but are limited by societal restraints.
i relate to rapunzel sm
People seem to forget that Aurora was a 16 year old teenage girl. Many 16 year old girls are interested in finding a handsome boyfriend.
I love Merida!!!!!🤩😍
