Abungura are a clan in Rwanda where late president Habyarimana belongs. They are a branch of Abasinga/Abarenge big root. Their ancestor Mwungura ( from verb Kwungura which means to provide,to make gain, to hand to) is not his real name. His real name was Rubunga. his contemporaries Basinga called him Mwungura in mockery "Mwungura wunguye imbwa imirizo" ( Mwungura the one who provided tails to dogs!) or in praise by Banyiginya "Mwungura wunguye Ingoma ubwiru" ( Mwungura who provided ubwiru to the reign, after he reveiled Ubwiru to Gihanga. Their most known kingdom is Bwanacyambwe( in present Kigali) and probably Bumbogo.
