Living Off the Land 08/03/2024
Trying out an unknown Red Jaboticaba for the very first time. Very strange and unique taste that is different from the black Sabara variety. This unknown Red Jabo has a very good tasting soursop flavor for some reason. Love it!!

I ate the Brogdon Avocado skin after this video and the skin did not have any flavor or taste to it. So you can actually eat the skin for the Brogdon as well. FYI.

Also known as the Flag Pawpaw, Bigflower Pawpaw, or Scrub Pawpaw. The tree can actually get as tall as 10ft. Very small looking tree in this video because it probably got mowed over recently.

Central FL Zone 9B Fruit Forest June Update
Oh man that's such a bummer! Looks like the trees should be able to recover though. And on the bright side, you might have some fat lighter or some free mulch/chips.
Thanks! I hope it will recover too.
Thank you for sharing this video! I will start to grow a few plants from seeds. Does the Bigflower Pawpaw have special requirements for the soil?
New subscriber here 😊❤
I'm currently attempting to grow two pineapples. I cut the top off about 1" into the pineapple itself. I allowed them to dry for two days and then planned them. I cut back the dead splines, and now im waiting for them to grow. I hope I did it correctly...
Definitely a must have in the garden🍍
Great collection! Did you grow them all from seeds?
Thank you! yes they were all grown from seeds. Will probably take me forever to get them to fruit lol.
Awesome collection! I definitely second the focus on getting more species than varieties... but once you catch the bug you can't hold back 🤣
Thank you! So true. I say that on video but if there is a new variety of Philtranthra the size of a golf ball I'd probably end up buying it 🤣
Great update, thanks for sharing. Glad to see your grafts are taking so well. My rate of success with Atemoya grafts is not as hight. You’ve definitely got some good scion wood. Please keep us updated on this grafting project.
How is your pawpaw doing?
I did some gardening yesterday and check up on them. They are still in dormant. Had to do the scratch test since it looks like a dead stick right nowhaha. But still very green at the very top tip so just waiting for it to wake up now.
Nice to have an off season fruit
Looking really good , soon your yard will be looking like a jungle 👍
Excellent video..what fertilizer you use for your annonas? Thanks
Thanks for you watching. I feed them Holly-tone once every 3 months. And fish emulsion/fertilizer once every week during the spring and summer months since this is the best time for them to push out growth and fruit as well. It stinks really bad but all the annonas love it.
Thanks for sharing buddy…
Nice video. Are the roots on the atemoya vigorous or is it ok to plant near driveway/home structure?
thank you. I haven't seen Atemoya roots being that aggressive/vigorous in growth yet and they don't put out any root suckers so I feel pretty safe planting them next to driveway/home structure. I do live in Zone 9B so our winter can be pretty harsh from time to time; you definitely want to give it a little bit of winter protection even for a fully grown Atemoya.
Much appreciated
that's crazy stuff you're doing. I like doing that kind of stuff too. But Mamey sapote is not cold hardy. It dies in silicon valley
Nice 😊
Thanks for watching Savanna!
Love your papayas ❤, again you are so lucky living in your areas, wishing all your trees doing well 😊
Thanks for watching Savanna! Papayas are almost ready for harvest.
Excellent video 👏🏼
Absolutely amazing. Could you please share where did you get the pineapples? Thank you.
You got very valuable information, people need to subscribe your channel more.❤
Congrats on the first banana flower! Maybe you can wrap the flower in a plastic garbage bag or something similar so that it survives the winter? I also saw a papaya tree just outside the greenhouse. How do you plan to protect it? Water collecting on the roof top is really bad! It will 'pull' the plastic until it tears at the clamps or the clamps give away and fall off. You can use those pool noodles on the roof (perpendicular to the length of water collection) under the plastic tarp and over the pvc pipes to ensure there is not too big a gap between supports for plastic tarp on the roof. I tried to use a 0.5 inch rope last year but it still sagged -- the pool noodles will be rigid enough not to bend and allow water to accumulate. There is a video on YT that I saw last year of someone using it. Plz check it.
Nice yard and fruit trees! What kind of dwarf papaya is the 10 month old? Looks awesome to have fruit already.
I wish I knew the variety. But the guy that gave me the seedling said he got the fruit from Trader Joe's grocery store and it was really delicious so he decided to grow it out from seed. I think I will nick name it the Trader Joe's variety 😆
Where can I purchase those big pots from?
Love your hoop shelters
Wow you saw a bear? Does that concern you any kind of ways? And how is other rodent around the food forest? Is there any snakes? I’m from Georgia and curious if I moved down there, what do I have to face.
No, as long as you keep a safe distant from their babies they will stay away from you as well.
@@farmerbee6532 thanks for your reply, I love your food forest, keep us updated 🙂
Thank you for watching :)@@savanna1518
Please post of video in 4-6 weeks to monitor results. Nice job. Are you using parafilm or some other tape?
How are you going to get a seed before it fruits? Looks like it's a few years away from that, no?
Florida native species are extremely dwarf compare to it's northern siblings the Asimina Triloba so the majority of them will form flower and produce fruit at around 2-3ft. The largest one that I encounter on my hike was no more 5ft tall.
Watch out for the gators! Thanks for the tour. 🐊🌴
You better put a shade on it or it will die
I actually did ended up covering it. there was an open spot that let sun light in from 3 to 5PM. Hoping it will be fine now. thanks.
@@farmerbee6532 anytime chúc mừng
Is your purple possum and sweet grenadilla hardy ? I wonder if they can grow in my yard 9b get to 25f almost every year
Rock dust helps 2 weeks prior to harvest on the sweetness
Flowers smell like smokey ham or bacon.
🐝🫐
I have an achacha in the ground myself. Those things grow soooo slow, and I'm in Florida which should be great for them. I'm just going to forget about it and let it grow slowly. Longans are cool. Once they like the spot, they take off like a rocket. I just took my 30 ft tree down to about 15. Be sure to keep tipping the longan or it will grow straight up and that's bad. It needs to be bushier.
What is your root stock ?
You shouldn’t of clipped the Lisa they stay small until your tree is bigger
I don’t understand why you didn’t left them to go full growing cycle?(lisa)
Darn Raccoons! Nice Peruvian guava, though.
Thanks Sheri!!😊
What kind of guava tree do you have? Very many plants in your yard. It looks cool there.
Nice dude.
Thank you 🙂

i actually wanna grab some of Grumichama, but i'm not sure if i like the taste since the plant n fruit really similar to beach cherry, and i dont like the beach cherry taste. btw hi from indonesia
I have the Peruvian white barbie pink, yellow lemon, and strawberry guava I haven't tried the strawberry, but the Peruvian white is a strange tree most of the fruits taste awful but a few taste so good I wonder if its the ripening time of year or? Maybe something else? But most don't taste good because the fruit needs something special weather etc? The Barbie pink is really large huge fruits, lemon is delicious.
I didn't know you can graft different types cattley on psidium?
Cattley and guajava are different species sometimes they don't graft well together different species in the genus psidium
@@xrsjohnm That's what I thought at first too since the leaf look very different from each other. But It was my first time experimenting with it and I'm glad I did it. Because they are compatible and can definitely be grafted together. Thanks for watching John 😃
Man you are lucky 🍀 if I live near you, we can connect. I would grow exact same thing you have done. More green to you.❤

I hope so too. Thanks for watching :)
