Flying to East Troy for the stamp. Pretty windy and gusty. Hit 5 hours on the new cylinder heads.

I recognized 57C in the title, you're not far from me! I've never flown into East Troy but I've been to 88C not far away. I fly out of C29.
@@frankdaniels8077 Yep, we are out of C77. I flew to C29 at the end of May I want to say. We are doing the WI passport program.
@@adamcotton5356 I've been to C77, nice airport. I am also doing the WI passport program!
Gorgeous aircraft, any tips on how you achieved such an immaculate polished surface?
@@frankdaniels8077 Thank you!! Although it always looks better from afar. We polished the skins on a flat surface through grade C before putting them on the airplane. On a table you can bear down heard without worry of embossing the ribs/bulkheads.
this is bullshit complete in scene!
Awesome! I may have to come back up for landing lessons from Adam! Hoping to get my Sonex airborne in the next week or so.
Very nice landing!
Nice flying on a gorgeous day!
R.I.P.
Good to see your plane flying again!
That is such a pretty airplane! You should be very proud, sir
Very nice! 👍
Nice!
Good to see and hear it running again! Hopefully you'll see improved cooling with the work you've done.
So far CHTs have all been below 300F. We are getting 3400 RPM on climbout at 80kts, and much better climb performance.
Awesome Bryan and Adam
This just happened to my old boat. Taking 'em to the boneyard
Does the muscle come with the boat? Lol
Autofocus is a pain! Thanks anyway.
another member on the team also had a Hard landing on July 1 in Ottawa during a Canada Day celebration. that out come was serious injury :(
I was sitting show center up front on the Boeing Plaza taxi way and saw this. :-( So glad when I saw him get up and walk off. He ended up have a couple fractured vertebrae from what I heard in later reports from the Skyhawks.
Yes, I saw him walking around after, I could tell he was in pain and really trying to hide it. They did end up taking him to the hospital where they found he had a slight fracture to one of his vertebrae, I believe they said the L3 Vertebrae but don't quote me on that.
Seen these guys perform many times. Normally at the point where the one guy broke off they all would have at the same time heading off 120 degrees apart. If i had to guess there was an issue well before the tangle. Glad they made it out though, that was sketchy.
@@Mr.SisterFisster Maybe. I don't have a video, but I think I saw them do this exact maneuver earlier in the week without issue.
Actually the maneuver I was thinking of they only had two the whole time.
Awesome!
Awesome view from the glider!
The front fell off
Old boat! Who was president when thst wss made?
Carter, it's either a 77 or 78
Bought mine in the early 70’s( sail number 2441/hull 2353) and because of its age ( and mine) ,we only do easy sailing/gentle flying a hull/ making sure there no chance to pitch pole. Comfortable cruising 24/7. Pitch poling while on the trap/spinning around till you kiss the pontoon/ those were the good times..
Snark sailing is like being put in a stress position for hours on end. Not the best boat for old guys.

Very nice landings, especially given the windy conditions!
Great. Very nice flight and good shots. What is the total price of a Waiex and the time to build it?
We built this for $30k USD. It's closer to 45-50k now. We bought most of the kit in 2013. Took us 9 years, but many finish in 1-2. Depends on how much time you have to work on it, and how many distractions (other projects) you get into along the way.
Missed the Hawk, too!
It might have been a seagull. Was bigger in real life than in the video!
By golly, I think Adam's got it figgered out!
I have my moments
Nice flying!
Yo cheese doodle I want to know if the pressure is correct?
Cheese doodle?... Anyway yeah, this pump outputs between 1.5 - 4 psi. I don't see a performance curve on the website, but probably 4 psi at no flow, 1.5 psi at max flow. Internet-land seems to suggest 2-3 psi for motorcycle carbs. I've ridden for 6000 miles with this pump without issues. www.holley.com/products/fuel_systems/fuel_pumps_regulators_and_filters/fuel_pumps/carbureted_fuel_pumps/carbureted_electric_fuel_pumps/parts/12-426
Awesome!
Nice landings! 👍
Great. Looks like a very smooth flight. Congratulations. What is the flight capability or flight range with 2 aboard?
Thanks. With our current weights we typically only fill to 12-13 gallons of the 16 available. At 4 gallons an hour, that is 2.5 hours to day VFR minimums. We've never flown a leg much longer than 2 hours. So 200nm range assuming no wind.
Good for you two for getting out and collecting WI airport stamps! Adam, looks like you're consistently landing that Waiex nice and smooth...your practice is paying off. The comment below states your cruise was around 100 KIAS. Is that what you usually do on cross countries?
Thanks! Yeah 100 knots is our normal XC cruise at 4 gallons per hour.
How many liters does your sonex make per hour?
How many liters does your sonex make per hour?
About 4 gallons an hour in cruise (100 KIAS). If I'm doing the conversion math right (3.78L/gal), ~15 L per hour.
@@adamcotton5356 what is your engine??

Lol it didn't even look like you blew any mainsheet at all during that. The whole bow was under water and everyone's like, nah we're still good
A learning experience for sure 😂

No insulation no sound deadening. No noise canceling headsets. No thanks.
They make Buicks for those needs.
Some comforts are traded for cost and weight. Although nothing stopping you from wearing Lightspeeds or A20s in a Sonex if that's the deal breaker. I'm using the clarity aloft headset and have never had an issue with the noise level.

Windy day!
Where did you learn to shift like that? I think you’re doing it wrong.
How is the weight balance on the Sonex? are you guys able to take off with full tanks?
Generally not. At our current weights we will typically start with 12-13 gallons. When I was skinnier we have gone as high as 15 gallons. Balance is ok. The Waiex is a little tail heavy, only a problem with ~20 lbs of baggage and very low fuel.
Would you recommend this plane to someone who’s never seen one in person before? Is it comfortable with two people? Would you buy it again after owning it?
@tfay412, I would not recommend anyone to buy an airplane, experimental or certified, if they have never seen one before. The seats are comfortable enough but it is a small airplane and we are shoulder to shoulder. You can see how the pilot not flying has to pull his arm out of the way for the other to have access to the throttle. We built ours, would we buy or build another? Maybe. Very happy with the airplane but the next project will probably have more useful load and speed. Of course this means greater costs to buy, operate, and maintain.
@@bryancotton7279Sonex had confirmed to me the high wing is supposed to be slightly bigger with more useful load. I’m waiting for sun n fun next year to see if they bring it.
Hope everyone was ok. That thumbnail for the vido was brutal oh my
