A Regenerative Wild Chaga Farm

There's been a lot of talk about the sustainability of wild Chaga harvesting, but nobody seems to be talking about the devastating effects of timber-centric land management practices and their tight grip over North American forests. The implications this has on Chaga as well as the host trees of various other species of "tree-rot" saprobic fungi are the most consequential variables when it come...

DEATH BY CHAGA - 13 victims of Inonotus obliquus and its murderous lust for Birch trees.

People grossly mischaracterize Chaga's relationship with the Birch tree as symbiotic. I don't understand why this myth came to be because it is remarkably obvious that Chaga decimates its tree hosts. In fact, it must. If the Chaga is to successfully reproduce, the tree must die, with rare exceptions occuring on trees sharing multiple trunks, etc. I've also noticed people get angry on this topic...

    There is apparently no evidence for Ibotenic Acid to cause brain damage when consumed orally. The way that was created was to inject pure Ibotenic Acid directly into the brain of rodents at very high dosage. Check out Amanita Dreamer if you like to know more about how to use this mushroom wisely and effectively.

    It is much better A) to take a Spore print on a separate small paper/ card .( I use " B/W photocopied circle/ B) ..then put it into a small PVC sealed bag, (I use Launch bags), and then... C) Attach it to your record sheet. In this way SPOREPrint * stay intact - not disturbed and * Sproes are prevented from flying allover the record cabinet * and contaminating other record sheets. All the best.

    I'm a part of a mushroom tincture page on Facebook and the admins say that putting the tinctures in hot coffee isn't an issue. I understand alcohol burns off at 173°f but doesn't it leave the beneficial compounds behind? You mentioned concern about mixing the hot water extraction with the alcohol extraction while still hot. So, I'm getting conflicting information and really hoping to hear from someone that understands the chemistry. Thank you!

    • @cwatkins4743
      @cwatkins4743 3 месяца назад

      Good point. I think part of wanting to keep the alcohol (around 25% minimum) in the tincture concoction itself is to preserve the shelf life of the tincture. At that ratio, it can be stored and used for over a year if put in a proper container, to whereas a water extraction tincture or one with much less alcohol will not last near as long. Once a (dual extracted) tincture is put in coffee, it is consumed right away so it doesn't matter if the alcohol burns off.

    I'm a tincture maker only; and i love harvesting chaga from the golden birch trees, all use the chaga from the white, but it's hard to put my finger on it, i just think their is something more special from the golden birch as oppose to the white. In regards too harvesting I have no qualms about taking any chaga at all, I only disagree with actual wasting of good pieces, when i was younger ten years ago i wasted a huge chunk never again. Too add on in my local area i see vast forested areas being cut down for new housing so i have no guilt in regards too taking some and making medicine. If you read this do you believe their is any difference between the Chaga from the white trees versus the yellow/golden ones?? Thank you.

    Hey I just found you channel and want to share with you, I am from Russia and even before I knew that you could eat the fly killers, I knew they were special and connected with pines, I saw them in symbology in architecture and gilded age artifacts, I saw them in dreams, I was my whole life enamoured with pine trees and their smell. I think it is time for me to try fly agaric yogurt. I had classic magic mushrooms and I felt myself existing in love very close to Christ, I heard fly agarics are very intense, but I just KNOW my ancestors were fly agaric shamans. The red caps are absolutely everywhere in Russia, theyd have to be activally avoiding them to miss them, and considering how much propaganda against these mushrooms exists, I am certain me eating these boys will be a massive level up in my life, perhaps a whole new stage.

    One of the problems with tree harvesting machines is that they usually need to work 24 hours a day to pay for them. This double shifting caused a dramatic increase in harvesting acreage in Nova Scotia when they were introduced. On a positive note many of them cannot cut the really big trees or the ones with deformed stems. I am sitting here in my log home drinking a cup of Chaga tea and thinking of a clearcut down the road with many large old growth trees that were left by the harvester because they were too hard for the machine to deal with. It is a shame that Forest Managers don't at least identify these areas for future management to protect these old growth genetic seed sources. The only way it might happen here is if relationships are built with First Nations groups to also protect the source of culturally important Chaga and other medicinal plants. To a Forester Chaga is Brown Rot and it goes against everything he/she has been taught to encourage it. My Chaga for 2024 has come from White Birch trees - a pioneer species that could be encourage in harvested areas - especially around the edges of cuts. Forestry folks tend to plant right to the edge of the woods. It is far better for biodiversity to reserve say, 5 or 10% of a planting zone for natural infil of trees like White Birch. When you talk to Forest Planners this type of approach will at least help get you in the door for a discussion and may be the beginnings of turning the tide to protect your Chaga supply, benefit biodiversity and make the forest company or State body feel like it is a win/win.
