Diving Utila, 2023

On our way to Roatan, we chose to dive Utila with Coral View Resort. We were the only divers there that August week,and had the big boat and captain and dive master to ourselves. The dive shop manager accompanied us on some dives, taking underwater photographs. Thanks to Jose, Daniel and Tara for a wonderful week.

I videotaped this while watching my husband Steve turn a huge piece of wood. He laughs at how inexperienced he was just a few years ago, making mistakes and using old tools. But I am in awe of his working with such huge, difficult wood.

We skipped using the GPS and chose instead to select roads from the scenic routes marked on our Atlas, as we drove, stopping where and when we felt like it. A lovely 5 days!

Big Sand Lake, Wisconsin 2021

We stayed in the most amazing BnB on Big Sand Lake in Wisconsin, for a week of fishing, the end of June. We even had a pontoon boat, gassed and ready for our use any time of the day. I had booked his dream vacation, but found it to be mine.

2021 Grandkids Trip to Gulf Coast

In July, 2021, we visited our grandchildren south of Memphis and drove them to Centennial Plaza, a beachfront waterpark resort in Gulfport, Mississippi to play on water slides and in the gulf, as well as visit aquariums.

Whew! That had to be exhausting. If you try to true up your large blanks as close as you can before putting them on the lathe, you will find it is a bit safer, easier, and you don't bend as many tools. We all have to learn how to do things. You did very nice work. I always feel it is a privilege to get to turn such a beautiful piece. Keep on turning and learning.
Yes, this was Steve teaching himself (perhaps dangerously) before taking the excellent classes offered by masters at Provo’s Craft Supply.
i think it is both silly and dangerous to put such a piece on a face plate. There are a dozen ways quicker and safer to rough it down before poking a gouge at it. Even a disk in an angel grinder with chain saw teeth would be much better thwn this. There is no skill in roughing dwn like this and most home lathes would get up and walk around the shed when turned on. Yes, just silly!!
Thanks for watching. Actually, this was not a training video, but one I made to show friends how he created a piece that is often admired in our home. He has since taken several classes from masters at Craft Supply in Provo Utah and has new tools and methods.
I would be very interested in tools that negate stupidity.
