Extraordinarily artful performance of an arrangement too easily spoiled by an overemphasis on its pianistic filigree. Mr. Weiss deftly sings the immortal melody with his fingers in the foreground while bewitchingly tracing the Godowskyan (Saperton was a Godowsky disciple) figuration in sotto voce background. The rubato feels just right. A-plus! Could hardly be played better.
