Bionic Bass Player Episode #20 Squier by Fender Affinity Series Active Jazz V Pt 3 (Bass Exchange)
I exchanged my Squier by Fender Affinity Series Active Jazz Bass V for another copy, because the first one had a cosmetic blemish. Butler music was very helpful with the transaction and did a stellar job in helping me. The bass arrived promptly after they received the blemished copy. Will the exchanged bass be better than the first one?

Part 2 of a demo review of Sterling Stingray HH 5 Bass Guitar. I wanted to demo that it is possible to thump on this bass. It is NOT easy natively, but I found if you thump between the humbuckers you can do it. It does take patience and practice. It is a lot easier with the single humbucker 5 and 4 string single and HH versions.

@@tedsimington7654 Thank you, greatly appreciated.
Very nice. I bought this a week ago from Guitar Center.👍🏾
@tedsimington7654 Yes, good move. This bass is a steal compared to its American made counterparts.
I notice that it has that 70s spacing, that would be better slap machine like marcus miller's bass
@airworthy777 Yes, this bass is excellent for slap style, particularly for a 5 string. Oddly, the Stingray 5 HH sounds fantastic, but it is a more difficult machine to slap with.
@airworthy777 Yes, this bass is excellent for slap style, particularly for a 5 string. Oddly, the Stingray 5 HH sounds fantastic, but it is a more difficult machine to slap with.
In other news, the store you bought it from now has this bass up for sale on Reverb. Priced at $264 + $61 shipping, which makes it exactly the same price as a new (undamaged) one. 😂
@schepler2 Not a bad deal, Butler exchanged my damaged one. I could have gotten money back if I chose to keep the blemished copy, but I preferred the good example.
Hello thanks for the review! Is this a new bass? And where can I purchase it? Thank you
@georgesims6484 You're welcome. Thank you for the kind words. This bass is new to the market. You should now be able to get this at any major music store, such as Guitar Center, but I got mine from Butler Music. I also recommend Sweetwater.
Better than a classic vibe?
I personally enjoy it more than a classic vibe because it's an active bass and it has noiseless pickups, two things I've come to appreciate in jazz bass guitars.
Stop doing videos
@jojolapraline I thought about what you said....No. I have an idea, stop watching mine and make your own.
Noice…got me 1
Great move!
Hello, the preamp is not noisy. However, certain settings tend to bring out hum in the pickups. Fortunately, it is not a deal breaker, especially since they're branded as "noiseless"
Are the preamps and pickups noisy? Thanks in advance
FYI, that chip was there when you took it out of the package--I watched the unboxing video. I'd take it back. Thanks for the very early review of this bass.
Your welcome and I took your advice, video coming up shortly.
@@thebionicbassplayer Good deal. Looking forward to it.
Awesome job keep it up.....
Thank you!

Love my Rumble 100 = it's a "Little Beast" only 22lbs too. Lightweight, portable, No Hernia & Sounds Amazing. oNe LovE from NYC
@michael_caz_nyc Thank you for your comments. Yes, the Rumble 100 is a great amp. I agree it has nearly a perfect balance of features, power, and weight savings.
@@thebionicbassplayer Agree with your assessment 100%. - it's exactly how I feel about it.
I have the same amp. It struggles a bit with the low B on my 5-string when I have it fairly loud but it sounds great overall. I also use it for guitar with a Nux multi effects pedal in front of it.
@rupe82 Thank you for the comment. I tried my 5 string on it and it sounded good.
Ray 24 ca vs ray 5hh??
@Bankniftysurgeon I suggest looking at my recent videos. I didn't do a side by side comparison, but there's plenty of examples of both.
@@thebionicbassplayer which one have higher quality pickup and build quality as per u bcz I se Ray 24ca price higher they Rayhh
@Bankniftysurgeon Build quality on both is high, even though the Ray 24 CA is more expensive. Part of the higher cost is probably because the Ray 24 is shipped to California USA for final setup.
@@thebionicbassplayer ok got it

I bought this bass for my great Grand daughter she is 7. But before I gave it to her. I modified my Fender Player P Bass with a Lindy Fralin Pickup, and put the Player Pick into the Squire Mini. The Squire mini now has more Thump than it did with the stock Pickup that came with it.
@GregoryAsh-dy2rh That's an interesting modification. Your great Grandaughter has one of the best Squier mini's around!
Nice! With Marc Russo on sax!
Mine had a terrible setup if any. Lots of fret buzz on E string.
Hi, sorry to hear that. Mine did not suffer from those issues, so I don't know if I was fortunate or you unfortunately got a bad copy. I'd say you're okay as long as you can take it to a good guitar tech, that can correct the problems.
How much did you buy it sir brand new?
The Rumble 40 new is about $229.00 new U.S. I traded in an Ampeg RB 112 Amp in for it, and the trade was about even at Guitar Center. I also received a 10% discount for the trade.
@@thebionicbassplayer ok. I bought mine 2nd hand only at $100. I am not a bass player but can the rumble 40 be use in a medium size stage? Thanks
@@benaplokcampandgo You received a good deal. Yes, it can definitely be used in a medium sized stage.
@@thebionicbassplayer i'm planning to have it for rent. $10 per gig.
That's some good playing there. I have the Rumble 40 and the Rumble 200 head (discontinued) w/ the 210 and 115 cabs. They sound great. By the sound of it you have a sound you like from the settings on the amp. Fender did something different when they set up the preamps in the 40 through to the 800 amps. With all settings at noon, Vintage, Contour and Bright off/out, you're getting a very scooped mid range, with stronger, boosted lows and highs. Some find this a bit muddy sounding. To get an actual flat setting, try the tone controls set to 10, 2, 2, 10 (clock settings) Bass, Low Mids, High Mids and Treble. Adjust to taste and room sonics to taste from here. My favorite tones are not far from these settings and I rarely need use the enhancement buttons. This is a more balanced tone and sits in a mix better than the mid scooped tone. As for the Overdrive, I've seen it used as a mute button (with footswitch), by turning to Level to 0. I use it occasionally with the drive set very low and the Level set to unity with the volume, for adding a bit of hair to the sound.
Thank you for your kind comments and tips. I will give those settings a try. I do have a footswitch and have used it to trigger the overdrive, very effective set up.
You make my heart sing!
Ricky is my favorite drummer! Rip to u rickmister! Plus that Tobias is awesome imma Tobias bass player as well
One of the few basses I haven't tried, the sound is amazing.
@@thebionicbassplayer i would put that on a list of things to do in the future because they are amazing!
Fender was owned by CBS from roughly 1965 to 1985, at which point it was bought by a group of Fender employees.
Yes, these basses, once oddly maligned are shooting up in value. I hope to one day get this one back.
Mold was broken after him……as with every musician….. everyone is different .. played who he was……. , his time in history, stage presence, his timing ( ie bass solo at the end ⚡️⚡️⚡️🎶🎶🎶 💥 ) Musicman as well…. MPOV he put Musicman on the map
So true, Leo Fender put the Stingray in LJ's hand to promote the bass and the brand and he accepted the challenge and put the instrument on the map to this day.
Why I bought one 3 years ago if you don't mind. It being a little over 100 bucks it's one mellow sounding guitars I've owned. Really loved your review.
Thank you! This is a very underrated instrument. I'm thinking about coming out with a modified version of this bass with upgraded components, but it's also great the way it is.
@@thebionicbassplayer the fact that you would reply on an old post says something about this instrument. I would like to see the upgrade it would only improve a really nice guitar. If you look for the strat in the translucent green. I was thinking of trying to get them to make me one but they didn't have the body style I wanted just want to add the sound on mine is so clean I wouldn't change them cus I just love the sound.
@neilstern7108 Thanks for the feedback. I would actually not mess with the electronics, but I would upgrade the tuners, possibly the bridge. I would also upgrade the finish and change the headstock logo.
@@thebionicbassplayer for the money it's just a fun guitar to play ,thanks for your post.
Great drumming very creative.....R.I.P. Ricky you were great....
Yuh
Enjoyed your vid god bless you with your health. Am a bassist to in my late 50s. And discovering jesus too... Great your video popped up 👍
Thank you and God bless you Brother, keep on striving for him.
It sounds like you're just playing a random notes. Not keeping time. And you're not even keeping time and playing the random notes.
Hi, that's your opinion, but I know how to keep time, I'm obviously not focused on that in this video, or I would have put on a back beat. Rather, this video was about showing the characteristics of how the amp sounds.
Praise the Lord! I jam for Jesus too. I play percussion and my wife is the worship leader at my church. Great video. I'm gonna keep praying for you to get that classic car! Remember God wants you to be blessed and happy! Have a blessed day! James 4:2 You have not because you ask not. 😉👍🙏
Amen, Brother. God bless!
My favorite song with my favorite bassist
It's actually not marketed for kids, it's size makes it easy for them. But many artist are playing mini guitars
Yeah, thumpiing is what LJ called it, that's old school.
If Brother Louis were alive and someone asked Him, When did you start Slapping, He would have said "Start doing What!" Oooooh, You Mean Thumping and Plucking!
I have an ‘87 Foundation and I play it frequently and love the tone.
❤ Jesus said the souls that sin shall die
Jesus Christ said the wagges of sin is death Jesus Christ said unless the wicked man repent he will surely die
Very true, however here's a command most people sleep on, Acts 2:38 "And Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost". If you're not in a church that preaches and DOES this, I recommend that you find one such as Truth of God.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son whosoever believe in him should not parrish
Have you tested out the DI feature for recording? Main selling point for me but I wanna know if it’s worth the sale price of $75
Yes, it works, that's how I make my recordings. However, because the amp is so cheap the quality can be hit and miss. I've bought 2 SR 40's so far and the first one had some hum. It is correctable with tweaking. but most people want to just plug n play.
Is that your amp buzzing out or your microphone
Hi, it is the amplifier. You have to play with the frequency settings to get rid of it, but I'm not used to a buzzy amp and I may contact Monoprice customer service and see if I received a less than perfect example.
@@thebionicbassplayer I’m a guitar player looking to get a first bass rig, probably not a good choice
@@grampskraka6976I recommend Acoustic B25C. It's lightweight, plenty of power and sounds great and all for a reasonable price. See episode # 96 I believe.
@@grampskraka6976Quick update, I tried out some other basses with the Stage Right 40 Watt amp and got it to where there was NO buzz. So this is an amp you have to work with to get a clean tone.
