Point of clarification: there are two types of glasses now in game. There are still ALL of the glasses designated as "head gear" which would slot into your head gear slot. These CANNOT be converted to "facewear". There is a second entirely different set of glasses designated as "facewear" and which used to be considered "fashion items". Although some look identical to their headgear counterparts, these are purely aesthetic and CANNOT be equipped to your head gear slot. But that's also why they can now be used in combination with a head gear piece! Try going to the vendor in Gridania that I pointed out in the video :) all glasses designated as "facewear" will be obtained via an item who's name starts with "The Faces We Wear". Try those and it should unlock.

Oh!! I'm so glad that it could help! \o/ FR though, i find it so odd that something like this didn't have an automatic in-game pop up or something to indicate how to do this. especially when you click on the facewear gear section and all it says is "you havent unlocked that yet". . . like wat

Good clarification! Agreed that it makes sense that this isn't the intended look and there's other ways to potentially get more optimized results. This was just a quick lil trick to get a more sharpened look with super minimal effort. For those that enjoy it great! for those that want to explore a more in depth "fix" or preservation of the intended graphics, they'd be encouraged to delve a little deeper into settings and optimization :)

Ahh shoot yeah, I've heard some people are having issues with flickering and some other little hiccups with the new graphics. Not sure a fix for all of those things, but hopefully as more people explore the settings there will be new info to help

Ahh yeah, sounds like there may be some additional settings you'll need to tweak in order to address that. Optimizing graphics is a whole rabbit hole that I'm only have surface level knowledge on.

Oh! which sunshades are you talking about? there are a few sunglasses option for facewear such as the "Rose Color Spectacles" and "Mistrel's Specatacles". Guessing you might be referring to the Endless Summer Glasses (Ray-Ban esk) or similar?

Oh you are so very welcome! :D yeah, that was something that I was super surprised to see when looking at the options. those 2 basically free options from the NPC vendor, ESPECIALLY the simple spectacles that I already wore 99% of the time eating up my headgear slot! great succes \o/

They are indeed! I had them as a fashion accessory before, so I got the facewear version from the Calamity Salvager. I assume that if you didn't already have the fashion accessory version of the Classic Spectacles, the facewear version would be obtainable the same way (submarine voyages IIRC).

As @Antipode_Bomb mentioned, they are indeed added! You can farm them from submarine voyages AND OR they are also available on the marketboard! Search "The Faces We Wear" and you can see all the Facewear options on the marketboart :)

@@Antipode_Bomb I had them as a regular head piece before. Very disappointed we can't convert those into facewear, to be honest. Never had them as a fashion accessory, or really bothered with fashion accessories previously since they couldn't be used in instanced content. Not in an FC, so submarine stuff is not something I can do. I couldn't find the "Faces We Wear" version on the market board at all, and Universalis didn't even have an entry for it... but I checked again just now and they're going for like 9 million gil. Ugh. I'll wait for the price to go down, I guess.

Yup absolutely! I briefly mention it a little later in the video, but 100% there are a bunch there. Only thing is they are a decent amount of MGP so not the most accessible compared to the NPC vendor ones, but definitely worth checking out if you like them :)

Right?! Yeah, I'm honestly pretty surprised that when you like the "facewear" slot it doesn't have some sort of pop-up that explains what to do / when you open the fashion accessories and all your glasses are gone. Happy this little guide could help! :)

Yeah I agree that it does seem odd that it works that way. TBH, I'm not sure whether this was intentional or if it's something they will try to adjust. I agree that something in between the default and the sharpened look would be ideal

@@noasaitoshii I figured out what made my game blurry atleast. I have an old GPU so it wasn't the known buggy implementation of DLSS. It was a setting in my Nvidia control panel, "Negative LOD". It was set to "clamp", I swapped it to allow and now the game looks like it should!

Agreed - 1440p at 99% FSR is pretty impressive...

Yeah! it is a very noticeable difference. And seeing how dramatic the change was with only that small 100>99 tweak right in the in-game settings is what made me really want to make this video since I'm sure a lot of people would wanna know as well :)

Ahh yeah, with the increased sharping I imagine comes more processing needed and thus, more taxing potentially on the FPS :\

not sure! i'll be honest, when it comes to tech specs and all the different graphics settings and stuff of that nature, I am far from the most knowledgeable. it's a whole rabbit hole of debate behind the scenes for them over specs

ohh! yeah true! i noticed that happening on my end as well. the new update, esp in housing is definitely VERY bright. a good or bad thing depending what you are going for hah

mhmm!! totally agree that this is not necessarily the most optimized "fix" for this. I'm sure that with the right shader/other tweaking of settings you could get a much nicer and more balanced effect. this was just a really quick fast and easy fix for those that might like this look :)

What do you use in reshade?

@@iDef_ntly Prior to Dawntrail release I was using Contrast Limited Sharpening. Now I am using AMD Fidelity FX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening. With the graphic update I find it to be a little more subtle than the other one. But with most of these you can play around with the intensity. I personally don't like it when the game is too sharp as it makes the image too noisy specially when looking at stuff at a distance.

100%! for those willing to fiddle with reshade and other graphical setting things, you definitely could get much more custom and probably optimized results! this is just a nice quick fix within the game that takes 10 seconds to do!

right?! yeah i know that for a lot of people the look they were expecting was something closer to what we get with this 99 trick! i suspect SE might investigate a bit of a patch update to address it and bring it a little closer to this look but who knows. glad it could help!

lol you ain't fixing that lil bro they've made it well known what the characters would look like now imo it's better cause now characters don't have those annoying white lines between their lips in cutscenes

ah yeah, i feel ya. I'm not a fan of what the update did to my characters nose :| thankfully we are least all get a free fantasia and hopefully you are able to find a look that you like!
