Hereford Cathedral
Великобритания
Добавлен 27 июн 2018
Welcome to Hereford Cathedral online!
This beautiful building is the home of a community which has worshipped and worked together here continuously for well over 1,300 years. It is a place where the mission of the Church to proclaim Christ’s love is central, and therefore the community has always warmly welcomed visitors in person and now digitally.

Over the last forty years, volunteer photographer Gordon has captured significant events such as royal visits, major county services and large-scale development projects at Hereford Cathedral. But he has also spent time photographing the Cathedral gardens as they change through the seasons, laughter and smiles at community get-togethers and every hidden nook and cranny of the building. Cathedra...

Magnifique ! Merci infiniment ! Joyeuses fêtes de Noël à tous
Is it tuned to a natural 432 hertz or to the disruptive 440? A reply will be genuinely appreciated.
I think those 180 degrees out of phase effects were on purpose applied because of copy rights One doesn't want recordings made of this organ During the demos the sound was good though With an audio editing programme you can fix this But I'm afraid the recording was also made mono So it's not much of an improvement
A great double act!
I like the way that you refer to Hereford Cathedral Library as being a working library.
Such wonderful communication and playing and some lovely insights about Easter, Hereford Cathedral, organ music and much more. Thank you.
No wonder organists like Jonathan Scott love playing Hereford; his brother's excellent recording of La Gazza Ladra overture really brings out the richness of this instrument in the cathedral's beautiful space - even to a hearing aid user like me! I'm planning to attend JS's lunchtime recital this month (August 2024).
This Craigie is a wonderful and thought provoking painting that works so beautifully in the magnificent setting of Hereford Cathedral. Well done to the Jerwood Foundation for loaning it for so many years now.
Love the Medieval world. So much we have today was devised by the minds of those that live in those times. I how I'd love to see that in person but I'm thousands of miles away.
Fascinating. Truly remarkable. 🙏 Thank you for this.
Walton is SO 1950!
The music at around 11min is 180 degrees out of phase mono. This is an audio no no. That means if both channels combine, they cancel each other out!!

❤ love your voice!
Fab exhibition and video, well done Jeanette!
Are you the kid singing with the helium balloon?
Haha I'm here for helium balloon too
Seems like the helium balloon was just used for humor purposes, it was used as a joke on april 1st. The guy can actually reach that high note without helium
Isn't it orthodox Christians that celebrate on the 6th?
There's no live congregation and they could've put the cameras anywhere! Why on EARTH didn't they use that magnificent high altar for the broadcast instead of that ghastly picnic table ?!
Wow amazing. Wish to be able to visit this

I am surprised by the quality of your videos. Such a great content.
What a glorious beast!!!!
Psalm accompaniment is really where a church organist comes into their own. How lovely that you enjoy it so much. The pointing in a psalm chant is makes such demands on an organist - managing the dynamics, constantly changing the registrations, giving musical colour to reflect the meaning of the words. I love whenever there is mention of thunder or a tempest in a psalm - as the organist will always draw out some rumbling 16’ / 32’ pedal reed for that! 😁
Supposedly there are books that are about vampires and crazy occult stuff there
Only in your world of Harry Potter. You need to learn to read real history instead of thinking vampires and the occult where part of ancient Cathedrals.
Unforgetable memory of Hereford Cathedral during the "Three Choirs Festival 1973" . Beautiful Cathedral and city , mighty wonderful organ . Be proud to serve there.
Well said and well done, Evie. You just sit there and play without wasting energy on bowing, bobbing and looking to heaven with funny faces! (I paraphrase a comment made by Catherine Crozier to one of her students.)
It's not easy in Britain to be a church organist. I often wonder what will happen to smaller churches, both urban and rural, when Mrs. Jones, who's played every Sunday without fail since 1978, passes into Glory.....would the Church be faced with a massive bill for installation of sound systems (of which the selling of the organ for scrap will only partially cover financially) or would the music just expire?
Exquisite, thank you so much! I especially enjoyed the Christopher Dearnley piece - achingly beautiful and unusual. Huge thank you for introducing me to it - I've tracked down the sheet music already. My sight reading is dreadful but I'm very much looking forward to learning it.
Such a beautiful video. Well done!
Very nice to see Elizabeth doing these talks after not seeing her for many years !
Well done!
Thank you for that practical presentation of a great historical treasure. I hope to visit soon and your talk has helped a great deal.
Promo'SM 😂
Wonderful!
So lovely to see! I miss working at the cathedral, and I am now a keen photographer - thanks to Gordon!
What a wonderful gift Gordon has been and is to the Cathedral. Such talent, expertise and gentle kindness.
I became an organist at a very young age, my dad was an organist too, my greatest passion and my true love, the best instrument to play,
Looks like your sitting in a closet. Beautiful organ though
A fabulous organ . Beautiful Walton piece . Willis organs are truly the best . Liverpool cathedral is my favourite though🤫
Lovely Peter, thank you for sharing. Have a good Holy week and Happy Easter.
nice. great job. fascinating!
So lovely to see the two of you, father and son, so special. Wishing you a good Passiontide and happy Easter from Normandie
Is any part of the discourse available on You Tube?
It is great to have you all on board! We appreciate that you are also part of the Cathedral Voluntary Choir.
@9:00 - " ... he'd developed an awful lot of things ..." - doesn't sound very promising. I can't understand why people use that word out of the context of its definition!
It's just a British turn of phrase.
Fascinating and illuminating.
One of my ancestors as Bishop skypp. Of Hereford
All I can say is his organ is very old😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Surprising number of people didn't know it was there, also it was during COVID19 which hugely excluded many from attending, what a shame. Hereford should really consider having the knife angel visit, I think it would be great for Hereford, the press can cover it and those of us like myself who are actually normal folk from Hereford will be able to visit it now its truly post COVID-19 lockdown. Is there a campaign to bring the knife angel to Hereford?
