I was revisiting your video for ideas on how to make a bail design I'm trying to make, and how to make it work. Anyway, I saw the part of trying to remove the coating in the wire. You could try soaking the wire in acetone (acetone nail polish remover). The acetone melts plastic, so after a little while you could just wipe the plastic off. Acetone will also clean the metal. When i used to work in a pint department, we would clean metal with acetone and also alcohol to ready it for painting. Anyway, I think it would work.
