Sprint Start - Analysis of a Block Start by an Elite Athlete
Here we take a look at the sprint start of a very fast athlete.
A block start is an essential part of the toolbox of any sprinter and it is very complicated to get 100% right.
Here this athlete has many of the elements needed to achieve a fast start, but there are still things he can work on to make this even better.
We look at some of the mechanics that go into making this the quickest start possible, not just for the first couple of steps seen here, but to be taken into the rest of the race as he accelerates to top speed.
Shin angles, hip placement, contact times and much more are all needed to be made ideal in order to start as fast as possible.
We'll show you how to get faster, faster.

Can you please apload Hammer throw exercise video 💝
Thank you this helped a lot I am in regional for my school in hurdles 80m and my pb is 10 to 12 seconds
thanks for clearing this up
🎉
I’m confused. I always thought the dominant foot needed to be the front foot.
@@FutureStyles think of it like your take off foot. Your dominant foot is the one you swing fast as you jump.
.I very much appreciate your help
voluntary lifting the knee is wrong! it has to be reflexsive!
@@Leonidas-eu9bb why?
She's done it!
Do you swap legs in the air during the hop?
I did this in shool and was faster than most other. It was also much more effortless until my teacher said I should run normally. This is now like 20 years ago. That video remembered me 😂
guys sports day tomorrow with no clue what triple jump is wish me luck
Go for it.
what language ?
Song name?
Mine is saying that ur rlly fast but coming last and swerving in front of you
nichole looks like tarantino.

Is this relevant to distance runners?
Definitely.
Is that Kingsmeadow
It is.
How often would you recommend doing these? I already do some drills twice a week before a session. Could you do before any normal run? Or just on their own? Training for a 400 and 800. I’ve only been doing track stuff for about 8 months. I’m 53 so my technique is not great ha!

Twice a week is good. If you are not great at them a bit more practice would help, so no reason not to do them on other days. Try to ensure good practice - working on improving things you don't do well. Don't just go through the motions and come to bad habits.
I testing video it need more support.
i needed this cause my school has a meet next week its the championship an we only have 1 practice so I'm trying to see how to practice hurdles at home my pb in the 200m is 32.76 i struggle with my lead leg cause it slants when i go over the hurdle
Glad we could help.
Me the night before sports day working out what a triple jump is 😅 Thank you very useful ❤
Good luck
Problem with this video. Everyone is popping up out of the blocks.
👍
Hi, Thank you for your video. I'm wondering if you could provide the reference in the literature that indicates that with sprint training, you can convert type 1 muscle fibres to type 2. I'm aware of the reverse but this is the first time I hear of type 1 going to type 2, and I would like to learn more about it. Thank you in advance.
Do you have a video on your channel for slow/starting runners with this technique? Or does this only apply to faster runners?
It applies to everyone. Slower runs will just do less knee lift on each step, everything else is the same.
how much faster is this than the common standing start where the runner takes a false step back before moving forward?
It's hard to quantify, but probably about 0.2 to p.3 sec. It is certainly significant.
Thank you!
You're welcome - we're glad you like it.
For the men's 100m hurdles, 8 steps to the first hurdle, is the first step shorter than the next 7? In watching one video it looked like the first two steps were shorter than the next 6. Thanks for any info.
Yes. In all sprints from blocks the first couple of steps will be shorter and the gradually get longer. This includes hurdles too, whether 7 or 8 steps to hurdle 1
@@MomentumSports Thanks so much, especially for the quick reply! I'm training for a masters track event in June, have only ran a hurdles event once before, a few years ago in Vegas. My only goal was to do all 10 hurdles...while upright! Succeeded. I'm 74, have absolutely no background in the sport, didn't start until a few years ago before the Vegas thing. I watch youtube videos, scratch my head, check out Wiki, scratch my head, and go to the track and decipher all the marks on the track...while scratching my head. Anyway, if you don't mind, would love to ask a few more questions as they pop up, which they surely will. Thanks again!
@@david-o6g1h Good luck.
Simply the best.thanks
Thanks
Second strides shouldn't be lift up , pull forward
A 60 y.o. athelte needs 60 strides in the run-up phase?
No. Once you get beyond about 23 you can stick at that.
Thanks 👍
For the block that’s more far up front is that for our dominant foot?
Normally we put the foot you'd like to kick a ball with at the back.
Its gud i need a coach
We can coach any athletes who need our help. Just see our website.
Thanks, Great video !
Thanks Sir for Best Video ❤
You're welcome

ohh, i got the answer while watching the video lol😂
@@gailaadriane527 glad we could help
