Thanks also to IPRA Queensland for putting on a great event, and to all the volunteers :) Finally, thanks HEAPS to IPRA SA for supporting us in coming up to the Nationals. It means a lot to have your state club behind you 100% when you make a trip like this!

What a weekend. Gained huge lap time with lots more available - then had a gearbox failure at the worst possible time that locked the output shaft and the rear wheels at the end of the straight. All fixable with a new gearbox and new tyres - but this ended my weekend. Big thanks to Mik Hazelton for helping me unlock more than 3 secs per lap this weekend! We have a small number of free range chickens on our property in the Southern Vales region of South Australia. We recently lost a 4 week old chicken to a bird of prey, and noticed that the predator had left some of the carcass behind. We expected it to return, so I set up a camera to identify what bird it had been. This was the footage we captured. The predator looks to be a fairly young Austra...

    I was speaking to a representative at a hydraulic hose and fitting retailer and he said that the push lock hose is not to be used with worm clamps and it can actually cause damage to the hose connection by using a worm clamp.

    Thanks for sharing this info and sorry about your chook! I’m in Melbourne and my chickens have been petrified since some unknown incident a few days back. I suspected a bird of prey due to their trilling sounds and shrub hiding. I spotted a juvenile Brown Goshawk this morning and wondered if they would commonly take chickens, I think I’ve found my culprit! It’s quite amazing to have it around but has put my free ranging chooks in a bit of a pickle. Have you seen the bird return to your property since then?

      I don’t know that brand. I’ve had some issues with the flapper valves, but the fittings themselves are holding up (in low/zero pressure, non-essential applications).

    • @chriswhite6546
      @chriswhite6546 4 года назад

      I have found quality to be fairly consistent (ie. Fair - good enough for breathers and the like). Apex have been great with their customer service and have replaced several defective items so I continue to use them

  • @callofgeorge
    @callofgeorge 5 лет назад

    great info. thanks for the videos. i've been debating on using ebay stuff (mainly concerned with the fittings). i ran stainless brakes with holley branded AN nuts and russell braided lines which weren't that costly. the fuel lines however were going to cost over $300 for name brand.. i decided to go with an ebay 8an PTFE setup for $100 and just check the fittings when they arrive. i figure i'll just replace the fittings if i see any leaks/issues with high quality ones. mine isn't a race car and won't be daily driven; more of a weekend cruiser. between your videos and a few others i've watched, some of the ebay fittings seem to be decent quality and others are quite cheap.. so just inspect what you get before using if planning to go that route.

    • @chriswhite6546
      @chriswhite6546 5 лет назад

      There is good and bad Chinese stuff. It is fairly obvious when you compare the really crappy stuff to the not-so-bad stuff. None of it is really to the same standard as the best US-made stuff, though some of it is nearly as good, or as good, as the summit-branded stuff, or even the lower cost branded stuff like Vibrant. You just have to find the good suppliers. I like Apex and Torques UK, though for things like flapper valves I have found them to be dodgy... but general fittings are OK. I still wouldn’t use them in important applications.

  • @JayDee-bz2ge
    @JayDee-bz2ge 5 лет назад

    Believe me, these things are GARBAGE! The ones I received had the wrong angle on the mating surface, & the aluminum was so soft, they chew themselves up when tightening. Nobody would ever finish a race if these were used.

    • @chriswhite6546
      @chriswhite6546 5 лет назад

      Jay Dee that is definitely true for the worst of them. However, there are better ones and worse ones. If buying from China, I only ever use fittings from autoparts-factory (Apex) in China, who have great customer service and have always been responsive to issues. I also have had good success with torques-uk, who are a bit more expensive than Apex but the quality is decent. The only real issue I have had is with flapper valves, which are really hit and miss from Chinese sources. If you want a decent flapper valve, buy a quality item... And DO NOT use this stuff in mission-critical areas - I only use them for breathers, or low-pressure, non-flammable applications like coolant lines.

    Chris, you drove well - particularly when the car was more than a handful to drive! How much power has it got? Almost too much for the existing rear suspension ..

    • @chriswhite6546
      @chriswhite6546 6 лет назад

      David Stone - Thank you sir 👍🏻 It has around 320hp, but it’s the torque under boost... close to 500Nm at 4200rpm. It overwhelms the rear suspension on corner exit. It could definitely be fixed with time and $$, but that’s not what this car is about. We are applying what we are learning from this car and will correct the issues in the 323, which will have a far more refined (and expensive) suspension package at all four corners.

    • @chriswhite6546

      The issue is technique! The wing is a NASCAR Car of Tomorrow surplus wing, and the splitter is the usual plywood job - only made to 4B rules (like 3D sports sedans) allowed in Supersprints. It sits around 80-90mm forward of the coach work all around, to give us a safety margin (100mm is allowed).

      +Chris White I ended up selling it to a good mate of mine, I got it going very well except HP, the next step was to do the engine with 400HP, I was so close to pulling the trigger on it, but then an LMP3 car came up, JUNO CN 2008 model, I ended up having to choose, I didn't have enough money to keep the MX5 sadly, but I can tell you one thing, I get first dibs on buying it back in the future, that little car was awesome, I have the biggest soft spot for them now, one of the best cars I ever had. The Juno is super quick (Under 1:30) at EC and 56's at Wakefield, but the MX5 was still a very fun car.
