many thanks. I have seen Sokhiev 3 times and was impressed each time - his debut with the NYPhilharmonic, with the Concertgebouw and Philadelphia. I think he is up fro a major music directorship shortly

Beautiful, civilized music.

The encore was a real treat. When the Air was handled with space, it accentuates the details. Just like how Vladimir Mikhailovich handles most slow movements in symphonic repertoire, the stability gives establishment with articulated attention to details. Hence my bias, although I still have yet the time to study his intentions in greater detail... 🧡 🌻

Not with his much-praised "Sinfonietta" but with his fairy-tale-like music to the fable of "The Cunning Little Vixen", Janacek makes himself immortal, not with an heroic tale but with a fairy tale, just like his great predecessor Antonin Dvorak did with his "Rusalka" ...

Ich kann nicht anders als es bedauern, dass Mahler diese wunderbare Sinfonie nicht bis zum Schluss rein instrumental gehalten hat. Der seltsame Gesang mit dem merkwürdigen (und überdies unverständlichen) Text stört mich immer. Schade (finde ich)!
