From my search this is still the best gaming laptop for its price, even a year later but if you think theres anything specs wise thats better than this at 1300$ then it would be amazing if you could recommend me some, ive been thinking about maybe getting a 4080 with ddr5 64gb maybe im not sure if i should because i mainly use it to render animations on blender, but if theres any advice that you would like to give i'd really appreciate it.
@@Iefn82Jw hey man, OK first of all I want to be fully transparent with you. I don’t own this laptop anymore. I gave it back to Dell because I didn’t enjoy carrying a 6 pound laptop every day for school so I got a laptop that was thinner and lighter. I’ve also never use blender so I would recommend getting a second opinion, but I have used this laptop both for gaming as well as productivity tasks such as video editing, virtual machines and coding. I would only recommend you get a laptop if you need portability otherwise I would recommend getting a desktop because they perform better and they are cheaper however, if you have to get a laptop for some reason and you know that you need graphics performance a 4080 on average is 50% faster and you are also getting 50% more we ran because you are going from 8 GB to 12 GB even though you are getting the same GDDR6. From what I have noticed doing productivity tasks it’s more about the CPU and ram then it is about the GPU so for me, a 4070 was completely fine but that 24 core I-9 was very useful in productivity tasks. You can also upgrade this laptop from 32 GB to 64 GB which was very helpful for me because I was frequently using my laptop at about 53 GB of used RAM according to task manager I would also recommend saving money and getting a laptop with a 13th generation I-9 instead of a 14th generation I-9 because they are usually more expensive and you are only gaining 200 MHz. Overall for $1300 this is not a bad deal. Just make sure you need a laptop because otherwise I would recommend a desktop. I apologize if this answer was a little bit long winded, but I am happy to answer any other questions that you have!
VRAM my apologies on the typo.
@@oriontechtips1980 thanks for the advice Orion, I'll consider getting a better laptop in the case of gpu vram wise and cause portability is a big thing for me, with additional RAM, everything also considered I really appreciate you replying to my question in depth as well. You have my Sub and thanks!
Hi, Quick Question, Idk if you’ll respond, but recently I’ve got the same model (Dell G16 7630 w/ 13900HX), and I bought Crucial 2x32GB DDR5 4800 in replacement of the Samsung 16GB 5600 (aka Factory RAM). Crucial Confirmed that 64GB would work for this model, but when I placed the 2x32 GB Sticks in the Laptop, Instead of booting up a few minutes after training, It was stuck in Memory Training for hours, and I wasted over 120+ Hours to see if the laptop is training, but it stalled completely. I’ve tried using one 32 GB stick only but it still stalled completely, and even the laptop recognizes all 64GB RAM, but refuses to memory training and POST into Windows. I deeply wanna know what the issue is on why I can’t manage to get this system to boot with 64GB RAM, I am aware that Dell claims that this system was designed only for up to 32 GB RAM, but most users have tested on getting up to not just 64 GB, but 96gb ram to work and utilized (sourced from Reddit). Is it the BIOS that’s flagging the 3rd Party RAM? Is it a Settings in the hidden BIOS that prevents other RAM from being trained other than Samsung, even putting back the factory RAM booted up and posted a minute later? Please let me know, Thanks! Edit: Forgot to Mention BIOS Version I’m on is 1.21.0 (The Latest Version in my model)
You can go into the bios and set the memory to the correct clock speeds
I couldn't set the speed on the BIOS, there is no setting for memory OC, or at least I didn't see it.
@henryruiz3297 might need to update to the latest bios. Log into your account on Dell and have it scan for your laptop it will know exactly what you need for updates
@henryruiz3297 also there's how to videos here on the tube
Thank you for the video
@@liesselmani3720 thanks for watching!
Hi. I'm thinking of buying the same model, with an i9, 4070 and 16 RAM. I haven't decided yet. Right now on Amazon it's 19% off, it's $1300. Do you think it would be a good buy, now that we're already going into 2025?. Have you played AAA games on it?
@@eduardogonzalez8357 $1300 for a decently built gaming laptop with a 4070, and 13 GEN I9 does seem like good value now to be fully transparent with you. I am no longer using the laptop mostly because it wasn’t the lightest laptop to take around with me every day to school, especially with the power brick. However performance was not an issue. Personally I am more of an E sports player myself. However I did play AAA titles, such as Starfield atomic heart, Hogwarts, legacy and Microsoft flight simulator and many more with the inclusion of Xbox game pass and all of them ran well even with the displays native resolution. In terms of pure priced performance, a desktop would definitely be the way to go, but if you need a laptop for one reason or another, this does offer good performance in my opinion.
@@oriontechtips1980That is a very good price, in Mexico it does not go below 2000 dollars
hey im an industrial designer and i use rhino, keyshot , blender, after effects and will be using solidworks pretty soon too! in my knowledge rhino and keyshot are mostly cpu intensive but many have warned me about solidworks heavy gpu requirements. I dont play games but i will be using this laptop for heavy rendering though not as much as animation/ gaming students. specs wise this laptop fits perfectly for my requirements but what is your opinion on 3d modelling software usage on this laptop with no gaming? in terms of heating, battery and speed. btw i plan on buying the rtx 4060 8gb and 16gb ddr5 since the 4070 shoots over 700usd in price.
@@vanditakala9001 hey man, thank you so much for this comment! First of all I want to be upfront with you I don’t have a lot of knowledge in those software‘s so I would recommend getting a second opinion now with that said if you are buying this laptop with the 24 core 13th GEN I-9 that is very powerful you’re getting about 90% of the desktop variant which is basically the same thing as the 14th generation raptor Lake refresh I-9 the only difference being a 200 MHz clock speed improvement, but in terms of CPU power you should be good on that front. In terms of GPU power paying $700 more to get a 4070 is simply ridiculous Both a 4060 and a 4070 have 8 GB of VRAM so for professional work they should be about the same even in pure restoration there within striking distance of each other so I wouldn’t worry about it on that front. In terms of RAM going with 16 GB is smart. I would have gone with 16 GB myself if it was available, and you can always throw in 64 GB yourself for significantly cheaper than paying Dell to do it for you, so if you’re wanting a laptop for professional work, this may not be a bad idea, but I’m happy to answer any other questions that you have.
hey im in the exact same scenario but i use blender, but i occassionally like to game so what did you buy and how did it work for rendering high poly animations.
That was a 45 degree angle, not 90 lol.

@@RAC7192 yeah as I’ve stated in my last comment, this is a good deal considering you’re getting the chair for almost half the price as I paid. I’ve owned it for over two years and I haven’t had any issues with it. You’re about as tall as I am and a little bit heavier than I am, but it still should work fine. I’ve had friends who are significantly heavier than I am sitting in the chair and it worked well for them as well. If you’re unsure, I would recommend going to IKEA and testing out the chair just to make sure you like it before buying it.

what's about MATCHSPEL for 150$ with no warrantie or return if it's defective please respond the offer will end as soon
@@RAC7192 hey man, well I’ve had mine for over two years at this point and I’ve never had any problems with it and at 150 bucks you’re paying nearly half the price that I paid for it so from your comment this seems like quite the deal!
I noticed that you have bios 1.14.0, have you updated it since the install? I have seen posts about upgrading to 1.16.0 breaks support for anything above 32gb. The are currently upto 1.20.0 I don't know if it was changed back but seems unlikely.
@@daytona1445 yes I have updated my bios at least once since the time of the ram install, but even with 1.14.0 it’s still supported 64 GB of RAM perfectly.
@oriontechtips1980 thank you for the reply. 1.14.0 was the last reported version that worked but since I have not seen more widely spread messages I figured that if it was an actual problem it was soon corrected. My system is being delivered tomorrow so I need to order ram and couple larger nvme.
@ yeah no worries man. Thank you for your comment. I haven’t heard of anyone running into that exact issue but if you are wondering, I am on bios version 1.19.0 and graphics card driver version 566.03.
So I tried to doo this upgrade last night and my system would not post. Keyboard did the normal rgb flashing then shut down after about 2 minutes bios 1.18. 0 and 1.19.0. Going to return and get 32gb kit
@ oh no, I’m really sorry to hear that man. My first thought is that the ram kit may be defective if you have another machine that you can test your ram in maybe you can make sure the ram is functional that way and if it’s not, you can always return it back to the manufacture and get a new one for free if it doesn’t work, but from your comments, it sounds like you have the exact same laptop as I have so it is designed to take 64 GB of RAM. But once again if you’re just gaming 32 is all you need.
3:55 lmao no one cares
@@user-pt9il9jn4w I hope you’re right, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m not showing my address for the entire world to see lol!
Hello, how much was it?
@@adriannavarro8081 Well that depends when this laptop first released it launched at $2100 then shortly after it went on sale for $1850 but prices are constantly changing. I would imagine if you waited until Black Friday or Christmas you could get an even better deal.
Same lap but with 16gb of ram, in mexico is about $1900
@ unfortunately I’m not familiar with the Mexican market however, if you are concerned about only getting 16 GB of RAM, you can always upgrade it up to 64 later down the line for a lot cheaper than Dell doing it themselves.
Its an energy hog. Can game for a whopping 2 hours in performance mode. Lucky to get 3 hours without the 4 ton power brick....
@@hawaiixtc haha true! It does come with a truly massive 330 W silicon charger for future iterations of this laptop. I hope that Dell will include a more compact gallium nitrate charger. I agree with you that I wish battery. Life was better, however the performance on battery is great though I still do 99% of my gaming plugged into a wall for maximum performance.

Thanks for the video. Helped me with G16 7630 RAM upgrade. You may want to add the information that RAM speed is capped at 4800 MT/s. Also, pulling out a battery connection was bit of a sensitive thing. I was worried about breaking the thing wires at connecting slot. Thankfully, I did manage to get it right. It will be helpful for other users if you can zoom on the battery disconnection part of the video.

Hi the only thing I’ve been worried is the cooling system, I heard g16 has kind of Liquid Metal for gpu’s cooling, it’s not very safe,is that bothered you?
@@conanedogawa6306 interesting that hasn’t been my experience I bring this laptop with me in my school bag as well as on multiple vacations and I’ve never had any issues with the liquid metal spilling over to other components even when my laptop sits in my backpack for days at a time. I would even go so far as to say, cooling in general is one of the laptops strong suits as well as heat and fan noise. I was playing the black ops six beta and the laptop was cool to the touch and I could barely hear the fans at 1440 P 100+ FPS. I know that Dell uses liquid metal for enhanced cooling which in my opinion they accomplished don’t get me wrong. There’s certainly other downsides with this laptop. It’s just that from a cooling/heat and fan noise, this laptop is one of the better ones I hope that this answers your question.
You did a screenshot showing the 64GB installed successfully but didn't indicate if the 5600 MT/s upgrade was actually running at that speed. Curious because I've seen reports of the G16 routinely down-clocking 5600 MT/s upgrades to the factory default speed of 4800 MT/s. Other reports have stated the limit is 32GB for this machine so great to know it can handle the higher capacity. Thanks, very useful info.
@@edwould873 I just checked the laptops bios and you’re absolutely right the ram while running at a capacity of 64 GB is only running at a speed of 4800 instead of the advertised 5600 of the kit that I installed my apologies for not testing that in the video, the speed of the ram slipped my mind, and I was only thinking about capacity I will also update my video description to inform as many people as possible. Once again my sincere apologies for not checking the speed. If you are wondering, I can confirm that the ram itself runs great and I have never gotten any errors. Thanks again for this comment. It really helped.
@@oriontechtips1980 Thanks for acknowledging the oversight instead of just ignoring it or making excuses. That's the kind of reviewer that enthusiasts value, the kind that put honesty and accuracy above image. Knowing the machine can handle 64GB at 4800 is still valuable to those looking for a strong desktop replacement for video editing, autocad, etc. The slower speed probably isn't enough to matter to anybody except overclockers and they aren't buying this machine anyway. Good luck.
what is the max watt for gpu ? and Is it close to the performance of the 4070 on pc ? And does it has a sudden decrease in performance? keep going ❤.
@@omaralsaeedahmad5577 the max wattage for the GPU is 140 W, however, most of the time you will only be getting about 115 W unfortunately you are not getting the same performance as you would on a desktop 4070 the desktop GPU averages 43% faster. It also has a 250 W TDP so it’s pulling a lot more power as well, the desktop also has 12 GB of GDDR6X VRAM versus the laptop 4070 only has 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. laptops simply are limited by thermals so they will always perform worse compared to their desktop counterparts. The question is really about if you want performance or if you want portability. I hope this answers your question.

Hi Orion, I hope this message finds you well. I'm a big fan of your content, especially your videos on building PCs and unboxing laptops. Your expertise and passion for tech are truly inspiring. As a 16-year-old high school student, I'm currently teaching myself web development, and it's been an incredible journey so far. I'm doing all of this on my mobile device, with a keyboard and mouse plugged in (lol talk about dedication, right?). While it's been a fun challenge, I can only imagine how much more efficient and enjoyable it would be with a proper PC. I was wondering if you have any used laptops or other tech items that you no longer need or use.
I know my story isn't necessarily unique or warrants a video feature or anything, but I just wanted to show my appreciation for your vids! Keep creating awesome content man, love your stuff! ❤️ Cheers, Najid
Nice unboxing bro
Thank you so much 🙂
does this laptop have mux switch?
@@direyvinnn yes it does.
I see forum posts about warming up and it is said to be troublesome about software that works windows compatible?
exactly that don't buy it
@@yavuzcelik3443 i’m not entirely sure what you mean by this but on any gaming laptop you will feel heat especially if you are maxing out the CPU or GPU to give you some reference. My GPU temperature is usually about 73° I also use my laptop on a cooling pad in an air-conditioned room, but if you are wondering if you should keep up-to-date with your drivers and windows updates I would recommend you do that for best performance and security.
Can you expand the RAM up to 64 gigabytes or up to 92 gigabytes?
@@marioperez8858 that is a good question and I’m not entirely sure I know on Dell‘s website it says it goes up to 64 GB but I’ve never tried 92. I would recommend contacting Dell to make sure it can run with 92 GB before you buy the ram kit.
@@oriontechtips1980 @marioperez8858 Hi guys I just checked with Dell sales agent, the agent mentioned Dell G16 7630 supports max RAM of 32GB. Are you guys sure it supports till 64GB?
I'm seeing this same laptop now on slickdeals and it's saying you can get it from Dell for 1079 after some discount codes.... I might have to grab one. I like that it doesn't look so gamerish....And that it's so upgradeable .
good job reviewing, no pretense, honest impressions, enjoyable vibe
Subbed, greetings ftom Nottingham UK👍
Greetings to you as well!
Good review thanks
Thanks for watching!
I know it can sound as a stupid question, but at the same price, would you choose a: Dell G16, GeForce RTX 4070 8Gb GDDR6, Intel i9-13000HX, 1Tb M2 SSD, 32Gb RAM with the 2560x1600 240Hz display or Asus ROG Strix G16, GeForce RTX 4060 8Gb GDDR6, intel i9-13980HX, 1Tb SSD, 16 Gb RAM with the 2560x1600 240 Hz Display ?
Personally, I would buy the Dell G16 because you get an 4070 which is on average 20% faster than the 4060 you also get double the memory which will help you multitask better. You certainly do pay a hefty fine for that ROG tax and in my opinion, it’s not worth spending extra money just for a logo.
Thx so much for the video! ! I'm about to buy this one and It helps a lot to hear about the experience after 4 months, but and i'm concerned about thermals! It reachs 90 or 100 C under stress? Thx again!
Interesting from my experience using the laptop the hottest temperature I get on my GPU is 73°C and that is under full load however, I am using my laptop plugged in with a cooling pad in an air conditioned room so if you are in a hotter environment with less ventilation that might impact the heat and thermals. Nonetheless, I’m glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for this comment!
subbed, looking forward to more of your content!
Awesome, thank you!
id love to see unreal engine 5 on it! Although im sure itll run jjst fine

@@eliascaceres6065 Yes actually! I've had it for about 6 days now. Actually, today would make it a week, but ive used it for about 6 days. ndd it's amazing! I got the white one. THanks for helping me make such a tough choice!
@@eliascaceres6065 Yup! It's really good so far! I had it for about a week now and it's performance is great.

I actually think the old camera was clearer, smaller field, but what I could see with the old one, it was clearer. The new one is blurred. I would have liked to have heard the microphone.
ram speed
4800 MHz but it is upgradeable up to 5200 MHz.
