Don't you love it when groups of people decide to stick to using "Dutch" even after learning they were hearing "Deutsch," but then they _do_ correct that for Pennsylvania Dutch and don't correct the first mistake? That's why people are so confused in the comments and I wish whoever came before us would've just cleared things up.

Not a word of Dutch or Hochdeutsch. I recognize a dutch dialect though, which no regular Dutchman can understand, and that is Drents. A lot of english in there, and some old Danish or Frysian. Those are all related languages though.

This is like listening to someone with heavy central german accent speak a mix of german and again heavily accented english together with some made up words. It is probably easier to understand for a german than dutch. I have however no idea why its called "Dutch". The only reason why that has happened is that in those german dialect "german" itself is called "Deitsch" when spoken. You only need to really subsitute 1 syllable ei->u to end up with dutch.
