I like the style but the speed diff over the fixed version is bigger all!

my father was trained on Tigermoths at Point Cook in 1944, and after there were so many war surplus that ex-RAAF personel were offered them at 5 pounds per plane, and he never bough one. dam… he said that they were so stable that you could turn left or right by holding out youyr left or right arms… (dont know how true that is)

One has to hand it to Piper when they started to develope the TRI-Pacer, the Pacer and the Super Cub. All very useful aircraft in their own right. I towed gliders with a Tr-Pacer, which served us all and still does very well. For a while the club used a PA 18a Super Cub, because you need the 0320 up front to handle the heavier glass and metal gliders.The Pacer and the tri-pacer are very ruggered aircraft, whith most suprising little maintenance. Of course being a fabric covered aircraft need hangerage. The Pacers etc., work very wewll in Cross winds. I ahve flown in 35 to 30 kts towing gliders. The Piper Pawnee is really the aircraft in the serious that works very well as a glider tug.With the shortage of second aircraft, the Piper Family from the late 50,s are a good option.I find the Pacers and Cubs can be operated in high cross winds, somethimes 22 kts. They may-be fabric covered but when it comes to work, they really do peforme. I flew the Pawnee as a spary aircraft.Lovely aircraft to fly, very safe and almost bullet proof.
