A Salvation Army Brass Band Concert with a difference, good variety and performance.This is an audio only presentation with the program added as a video track. It is a selection of musical items selected from two concerts performed in April 1982 at Sydney Congress Hall. Unfortunately, no video of the actual performance is available given that high quality video cameras in 1982 were are rarity.

When we made no apologies for our faith and practices. When uniform was a privilege. When God truly was in control AND WE LISTENED AND OBEYED. When we truly marched to a different drumbeat. But changed days need changing ways. Is it time to perhaps remember why we were ** in the world but not of it?
Very true as an ex salvationist from UK I remember being taught in recruits classes that we are in the world but not of it. How today in 2024 the S.A. has changed , in my opinion it has changed not for the best. The meetings are not the same, hardly even sing the S.A. songs and uniform has sadly seem to have gone. I would say the Army today as become of the world sad really. No more holiness meetings no more salvation meetings.
Well done and great to see the staff band at the old Congress Hall and which I do miss quite alot since 1986 and hope you are all well and the family God Bless

It should be noted that this concert was conducted by Bandmaster Barrie Gott. The Producer of the early Brass Encounters concerts was Colin Calcott. Colin created the concept of Brass Encounters which the Band took on tour in Australia and across Canada and the United States in 1985. The band toured again in 1991 with the concert format to the United Kingdom. Many aspects of Brass Encounters concept have been adopted by numerous bands worldwide.

Great thoroughly enjoyed this( apart from the unnecessary dramatic open music completely out of character with this IMO) so was going to enjoy the 2nd Half but ??? :-)

Wait what? The song / underlying theme the solo is based on is "relatively irrelevant"?! @19:58 Strongly disagree. Then why are Salvation Army bands playing in the first place? We play the gospel - the underlying theme of the music is the thing. Also the solo can be "fun" and still contain a strong and important theme. That mostly done in the way you present and frame the music. Great playing from the band and the soloist!
