I missed out. I could have skated more as a kid but I didn't appreciate the art form. It was just another of many activities and toys. I don't mind pushing around, but being able to do some of these flat ground tricks is the way to go....
Just met Matt a few days ago backstage at an FM gig. Such a humble guy. Never fanned out on anyone before, felt like a 16 year old again haha. Got the selfie ton prove it, happy days :D
Still got my Hensley lamp post graphic t shirt. In red. Between 89 and 91, he was the man. That short hair, cargo shorts, chain, and slight hunch was copied by many. Iconic, certainly in Liverpool, England
Such a legend. I don’t think the younger skaters even understand. Hensley truly had THAT special style and persona. Widely respected and super impactful.
Definitely, Matt was somebody doing something unique, and on his own level. He was my childhood skate hero. I graduated in 92. Emulated his style, he had that charisma, and respect.
@@dulichion Totally, my friend’s older brother that I looked up to skating-wise was a big Hensley fan and also graduated in ‘92, so he was definitely impactful on that generation.

Charles J Gartner no way, with much respect, mullen had them in like 85, and jason lee was doing them in 88,89, so was jeremy klein, and of course hensley, all tue guys who were godhead back then, on another level completely:)
All tricks were done by 91. Some caught on video, most not. But tricks had a fashion, it was creative time in skateboarding, not just california, but world wide. I remember me and my friends in 89 trying to copy tricks from h Street but also coming up with our own, or new variations. I'm sure this would happen everywhere. But would I claim to have invented new tricks? No coz we didn't film and didn't realise the significance of what we were doing. In Liverpool England

Exactly. Young non mainstream skaters get it, I like to believe.
He was massive. The style, the look, the tricks. We knew then skating was going to change in the 90s and matt was at the forefront of that.
