@@michellemc7 ok that’s so funny because I thought the latter part of Dune felt almost like a different book, maybe he did feel a need to quickly wrap it up haha!! Glad you’re loving Before They Are Hanged!! Who’s your favorite character in the series so far? I already want to reread the trilogy! I’m about to start on the standalone First Law novels and can’t wait to be immersed by Abercrombie again!

@ yes!!! He writes characters so well that I get into every chapter, but at the end of the day Glokta is my favorite, too!

@@drewh7457that’s a good idea and it’s definitely my plan to continue the series, I know many people really like the books immediately after Dune. I like the story, just for some reason the writing wasn’t working for me on this read through. Pretty disappointing but I blame just not being in the mood for this book when I picked it up!

Others have suggested I sell some of my books, maybe it’s something to consider in the future! I typically give them to friends or donate them. I’ve got a box of books I’m putting together to donate to a women’s facility at the end of the year, I usually try to donate items to charities/facilities so people who need them can use them for free 😄

It’s definitely a commitment lol Book collecting and reading are two separate hobbies for sure! I go through my collection at the end of the year and donate books to make space, or my house would be all books lol

Special editions are fun, publisher need to make them more often!

Thank you!! A few years ago I assessed my TBR (which at this point is basically thousands of books) and decided to give myself permission to DNF if I can tell I’m not into a book. It really improved my enjoyment of choosing something new without the pressure of feeling like I have to finish everything no matter what!

I hope you enjoy 4/5 of TOG! I liked them both and got to know my favorite characters in the series from them. I have a ways to go before Stormlight Archive but can’t wait to get there, so many people seem to enjoy that Sanderson series the best!

@@hamba1998 expanding the plot really helped, and getting to meet some interesting new characters going forward! Did you read The Assassin’s Blade first? I found that helped give me more context for some of the people/places/events in the books than if I’d waited to read them

@@hamba1998 I would personally read it ASAP, I’m glad I read them first instead of waiting because it made some things have an extra level of investment from me while I was reading the books. But I know a lot of people recommend waiting until the end of book 3 to read the novellas, so it comes down to personal preference 😄 beware, a couple of my TOG recaps may have a spoiler or 2 for the prequel novellas because I read them first!

The book and the Netflix series were excellent! I really enjoy Mike Flanagan’s shows, he has a new one coming in October that I’m looking forward to, The Fall of the House of Usher. And I’m always on the lookout for more books like Shirley Jackson, hopefully that retelling will be good!

I completely understand and don’t blame you at all! I think this book is going to be really polarizing with people either loving or hating it due to how Wells chose to tell the story. I don’t think I’ve ever been so confused for so long by any other book as I was with Witch King lol

I feel the same way about bad parents in books as a main character! I’m just not able to get behind them when they don’t go through any kind of development or experience consequences for their behavior. And we’re not alone, most of the Goodreads low reviews disliked this book for exactly that reason! San Diego was incredible, definitely a fun place to take a vacation if you can!! People are so nice, the weather is beautiful, and so much good food everywhere

I'd love to go to San Diego. My sister lives out there. I've been to California many times but I've never visited SD. The convention sounds like a blast. Is it difficult to get tickets(?)/pass?? Expensive?

@@ScorpioMoon213 that’s cool you have family there! Yes, the convention was so much fun, I’m definitely trying to get badges for next year. It can be pretty hard to get them, it all kind of depends on the lottery gods. When the badges go on sale, everyone on the website gets put into a randomized queue to purchase. When your place in line comes up, you can buy any badges you want that are still available. We got lucky for this year and our place in line came up when all 4 days were still available to buy. Most of it is luck! They’re pretty reasonably priced if you can buy them during the badge sale, I think we paid about $75 per person per day. It’s a really unique experience to be at the convention, surrounded by tens of thousands of other nerdy people, it was so fun! I haven’t seen the day of the badge sale for 2024 yet, I think it might be in October

I hope you’ll find Hero of Ages to be a satisfying end to the trilogy! There are so many reading order options for Sanderson’s books, and it seems a lot of people don’t even bother with any real order, they just pick up his books randomly! I’m too neurotic for that, I needed some kind of plan, hahaha! So glad to chat with another person new to the Cosmere, definitely let me know what you think after you finish HOA! And Sazed (Sah-zed) is definitely the best character 😄

Just finished HOA ... watching the spoiler section! I got quite emotional towards the end, when a certain someone was doing certain things to sort stuff out (trying to be vague haha). It was truly beautiful and I found the ending really satisfying. Moving on to Elantris next month!
