People who say having a pet and having baby are similar have never had a child. Dogs and cats, you can put out a bowl, pet them every once in a while and let them out on a regular basis and they'll be happy. You do that with a child, and you'll get locked up for neglect. Pets do not keep you up until 5 am screaming their head off and shitting their pants every five minutes.
