The Best just got BETTER: RG35XX-H PRO Hall Effect upgrade guide!
This handheld played PC games, now it does it better!
In this video we cover the recent community kernel updates to the Anbernic RG35XX-H & Similar devices, and go through the upgrade process of using Hall Effect modules for the joycons on the device.
I highly recommend the upgrade!

NB: There is currently (afaik) no way to recenter the sticks if you need to calibrate them on the device. Make sure you get something with good QC. I've linked mine in below.

How to change the .sh file so that it is connected to sdcard2?
Awesome, thank you.
I LOVE YOU <3
What's your os recommendations? muOS or knulli?
where do you get these ports versions from?
Could you do a tutorial about how to modify sh. files for running ports in the rgxxh?
😂 sub number 349!!! Great content!!
Oh my, is it really you-the wonderful person who made that post on GitHub? I can’t thank you enough! Yesterday, when I got the console, I was completely puzzled as to why the ports weren’t working. At the moment, I see the standard OS as a significant compromise between achieving the best performance and ensuring proper support for Portmaster. Another option could be using two separate memory cards-one for PSP and another for the ports-which is what I’m planning to do for now. By the way, could you recommend which custom firmware works best with Portmaster?
Excellent video! Thank you for the links too, you saved me time in searching for these things myself. Liked and subscribed, you deserve success.
great video! The stick resolution demonstration (and animations) were perfect for showing the issue and the corrected function.
Hello. Awesome video and content. I have a question that is a little related but I understand if you won't be able to answer. Will these Hall Effect joysticks (from switch) work in TrimUI Smart Pro? If you could say for sure that would be awesome. Anyways thank you!
I just might to upgrade my sticks, not that I would need or use them often, but because the video was that great. Seriously, came here not expecting much and than was REALLY confused why you only have 333 subs. But this will change soon, surely Great work!
Thank you very much for your kind words!
New here hello
Dude... you have such a kind, gentle voice... and here I am swearing like a maniac with my failing eyesight and fat fingers trying to do the same job XD Joking aside - great guide. Thank you so much :)
Do you think the gulikit sticks are worth paying 3x more for?
@@illmannered1 they’re currently on sale for about 14$. I wouldn’t spend more than that though :D
@zaks7 I think I'm gonna get the ones you got, I'll try them in my rg35xxh and decide whether to get more for my rg40xxh or get the fancy ones
@@zaks7 do they need to be calibrated once new hall effect sticks are installed on these anbernic devices?
@@illmannered1 there is no way to calibrate them on the devices yet because the stick drivers are kernel level. I’ve been trying to hack at it for a way to get other drivers into there, but not much luck. I recommend getting tested and verified sticks for the QC reassurance, but for now, the sticks will generally have a very very small amount of drift (about -0.02 on my device) which game engines usually don’t pick up.
@@zaks7 ok, good to know.. Thank you
zaki is that u?
Wassup :(
@@zaks7 Look sexy in video XDD
Hoping its possible to do this on the rg40xxh too!
my bro, thanks for this guide! I just upgraded mine with the gulikit ones, and they feel amazing. everything works like a charm, and the sticks resolution is amazing. ended up doing the fabric mod as well, its so cool to have the device not rattling anymore! Many thanks! keep it up
Your content is so good! keep doing it
Awesome! Thanks!
Great video, bud! Thanks!
One thing I wanted to update you on is that I went ahead and bought these sticks and performed the replacement on my RG35XX-H. With the new sticks installed, I was getting ghost inputs. My device was seeing inputs of UP and RIGHT randomly. I removed these sticks and installed the original ones back into the device and the ghost input issue was resolved. This is upsetting for me as I really enjoyed the feel of the hall sticks. Oh well, I'll have to try some other sticks down the road.
Very informative video.
great work, thank you for the detailed video, especially the immaculate (xD) stick upgrade guide, amazing benchmarking app and pretty animation! i absolutely love it since it's rare to see people putting lots of effort into elaborating their ideas like that. looking forward to your future work! saw the logitech g cloud on the screen, will it feature in the next videos too? a question, hardware tinkering is not really an issue to me, but does the upgrade only work for custom firmwares and not the stock one? wonder why they can't just go for the hall effect sticks as mass production will reduce the cost a lot, no one would mind a little bit of price increase if the sticks were more accurate and gave better experience. on a side note, the yapping makes the video interesting in a special way, would love to hear more from the yappatron in the upcoming videos haha thank you, would absolutely buy a coffee for the channel :)
this is awesome, thanks for tetsting and publishing this! Lets hope Anbernic doing this themselves in their new devices soon!
Good job man. Nice detailed video. 🎉👌🏼👌🏼
I dont even have this device but i had to comment because the quality for a <300 sub channel is impressive! Excellent job with the video!
Thank you very much for your kind words!
Can you do that for rg40xx v/h?
Hey, the swap works for the 40xx devices as well, but the teardown is a bit more involved. I can't afford one more to make a video on it though :D
@@zaks7 it would be a lot cooler if you could 😂 I just watched the other guy tear his rg40xxh down.. It was so anxiety inducing, I imagine yours would be way better. I'm getting mine in the mail soon and plan on upgrading the sticks asap
@ you would have to remove the motherboard to swap that one out 👀
Came for the video, stayed for the video. Great job!!! 6:01 I love it
Phenomenal job! I wish I was a little more patient for your video since I ordered the $12 generic hall sticks for my RG40XXH. I could have saved a couple bucks 😜. Should get them in a couple of days. Thanks again for the entertaining and informational video!
Thank you for your kind words! You can't go wrong with that pair either :))
Hello how can i fix the controls, my anbernic is rg35xx(2024). The apotris is running but i can't control.
Unchecking full screen optimizations worked for me regarding CS2 in 2024. Goood stuff
bro, could you please give me your cfg? i have a low pc. Please!
@@SHPritom19 I have a pretty high end pc, that might not help you :/
I'm trying to install stardewvalley on stock but device enters black screen and exits , please help
good job ! I'm going to test mine with recalbox and see how it goes as I don't see videos covering this. Good luck with your channel :)
have a great day bro!
not working on my RG35XX+, tried with Stardew Valley but keeps on exiting
Please help me out i have this problem but i did all of thinks u do but still have same problem 😢
I purchased new 128 GB sd card as well. I suggest to take backup of ROM folders only to PC. then do update the stock sys firmware on card using aomei partition manager and card reader thing using Rufus. Once its updated copy the ROM folder back into SD card Rom folder and that's it.
Nice video Zaki bhayya. I have recently uodated it to 115 16 bit. I am confused if 64 is better or 16 just for gameplay.
Bros got that Asmr voice
I was thinking the same!
Update: So I had to travel recently and decided to tryout muOS while I was out. Install took about 10 minutes. I got stardew valley working in 3 minutes, it works perfectly off of steam. I wish muOS had the UI of stock or knulli :(
have you tested it again on stock (i mean, if you loaded stock again into your pocket)? does it work at all? since there are some pc games that aren't very stable emulated on the rg35xx handhelds in particular or aren't working at all, although they are successfully ported, can you possibly make a video on some of those games? maybe a short video about the linux scripts, maybe off the topics you may be possibly delving into, but it would be helpful to have some brief explanation on how to write/mod the scripts (to move around the systems, for example) for people who would like to try modding the scripts themselves. also took a look at your github repo, thanks for uploading the scripts!
I made this tutorial for Stardew Valley in Stock OS for RG35XX H, you can play the latest version in compatibility mode. Sorry, but it is in Portuguese. idea-o-matic.blogspot.com/2024/10/tutorial-para-atualizar-o-portmaster-e.html
guys can someopne help me out with the 64gb v? please
what theme is that? is that what stock os comes with now?
Not sure. This is one from the mod stock. There's a much much better synthwave theme for stock though, by @israelperez on github.
Does anyone have a link to a copy of the original firmware update? A torrent, or anything?
any1 else is having problems with the new stock os? Cant get the full size of the sd to add games.
Please watch the video.
Nice review and best of luck with your channel dude! There's nothing better at the $70 price point than this, it's such an awesome, compact and affordable hand held, can't say enough good things about it. Was very impressed by how many great games it comes with, it's a very well rounded library from many retro consoles and arcade classics. Great screen, controls and buttons too, there's nothing to really complain about. If you're on a tight budget this is the one. You get so much bang for the buck. Anbernic is the undisputed king of budget friendly retro hand helds that far outperform their price. The RG556 is just flat out amazing for the price too.
Thank you for your kind words! If you're still looking to buy though, I'd hold on until friday, the RG40XXH will drop for 64$ ;)
@@zaks7 I picked up the RG35XX H last month as a gift for my brother who work travels a lot. I have the RG556, and I curl up with that thing like people curl up with a good book. It's such an unbelievably fantastic and capable hand held for such an awesome price. It's packed with nearly 5000 retro console and arcade classic games including a 480 game PS2 library SD card that never leaves the slot. I'm 55 and never outgrew how much I love gaming. I was 20 when the original Game Boy dropped, and I am just so blown away by how far hand helds have come since then.
@@davidsapir3764 The PS2 had a GREAT library. One of the best libraries in the history of consoles. So many different genres and amazing titles. I remember buying the Game Boy back in 1989 and it came with Tetris but I bought Super Mario Land to go with it. Played those 2 games for a week. Picked up Tennis and Baseball the following week. I grew up with Atari 2600 and ColecoVision so I was floored that I could take games like this, with much better graphics, with a removable cartridge no less, on the go with me. Oh, and I still have my original Game Boy. It is in mint condition and still works. I posted a picture of it on my Instagram.
I think we need some guide how to do .sh scripts for rg35xx h ... I tried to rewrite the scripts from portmaster. games but unfortunately I couldn't make it. Do you have any tips on how to easily fix this?
