Giving Away A Tortilla Press I made
I.m giving away a tortilla press that I made to say thanks to my subscribers for being here. I held a drawing 37 days ago and never heard from the winner. I made many attempt to reach them before announcing a second drawing. Congrats Trent, I can't wait to see how your tortillas come out!

Free Tortilla Press Give Away #2
Просмотров 2023 года назад
This is the second drawing for the tortilla press. I did the first drawing for it last month and pulled all the visible subscribers names and put them in a hat. I never heard from the person who won and have made several attempts to reach them. After waiting a full 30 days, I'm going to have another drawing one week from today.

I’m giving away a custom tortilla press that I made as a way of saying thanks to my subscribers. I wanted to do this live on Facebook but found out I’m not allowed to do that yet, so I just decided to do another video to announce the winner. Thank you all so very much for watching and subscribing!❤️🙏

Hoping everyone can participate. I noticed that some of my subscribers are subscribed privately and that makes it impossible for me to include them in this give-away. I wanted to give some notice and provide an opportunity to change that so they could be included if desired. Drawing will be done live right here, Sat 3/6/2021 at 8:00pm PST Only the names that are visible can be put into the hat....

Small Oak Slab Table
Просмотров 503 года назад
My first slab table ever. I scavenged a large Oak stump from a drainage ditch out in the canyons, and cut a few slabs from it. This is the first slab. I also used some doug fir pcs and cut and stacked them by color matching them. I made custom hidden metal leg mounts and carved the feet. I think it came out alright for the first try, what do you think? Let me know in the comments please.

New bulletin boards for Cook’s Corner. We used 1/8” thick by 4” wide mild steel to frame the two and a half sheets of new plywood. Water jet was used to cut out the lettering and then it all was powder coated with a hammered look. I used over 300 screws to give it a riveted look. My son Trent helped me with the install which made it way more fun. I think it came out pretty nice.

Dinette table
Просмотров 235 лет назад
A small dinette table I made as part of a set for my son and wife for their wedding. The whole set was made from some reclaimed lumber I got from the old Repro Graphics building in Fullerton Ca. I finished the table with a brushed on clear gloss polyurethane. It was tough keeping up with little runs and sags with all the different surfaces and angles. I lost count on how many coats I put on it. 🤣

    How did you get the dowel for the handle to stay put? I see how you sanded down the dowels for the back of the press, but wasn't sure how you got the join with the handle to stay. Did you glue, cut, and sand?

    • @jeffportercreations8234
      @jeffportercreations8234 3 года назад

      I didn’t glue the dowel in place. I wanted it to be able to be removed for cleaning, so I sanded the dowel for a tight fit and then the mineral oil helped to make it a bit tighter. It will push out with some force.

    Have you had any issues with the glued slabs breaking under the pressure of using it? I've been avoiding a butcher-block style press for that reason. Maybe I'm too cautious? Thanks for the helpful critique Brian! So far nobody has reported any damage. This is the one that I still think about though. I ran the glue joints 90 degrees to what I normally do. I originally thought the same thing too, but now I’ve gone down a massive tortilla-themed rabbit hole, and the one thing that keeps coming up is how little pressure it actually takes to flatten the tortilla. I think I always got thrown because of all the cast iron ones (because why would they make them so heavy duty if it isn’t needed), but in the bon appetit video where Brad goes to a place that make their own all day every day, you can see how little pressure is needed (and how easy it is to use too much pressure). Now I’m thinking I can go back to my plans for a jointed wooden one, and the fear of destroying my creation can be the thing that stops me from pressing too much :P
