Faith - strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof. Absolute Truth - What is absolute truth? What is defined as true? And how can you prove that truth is absolute? What is the point of believing in a faith if you are not willing to accept the entire idea and philosophy behind it? If you are allowed to cherry pick what you believe as absolute truth and what you believe is “outside human conscious” (which is weird considering every single interpretable Biblical/religious reference has been given to you by another human), what is the point of believing it? Also, how do you know it is an absolute truth when your very source for that truth is inherently based upon uncredible belief that cannot be proved in any other way other than “faith” and faith itself? Isn’t this just a truth inside your sect that is only absolute in your religion and nobody else as they do not believe in such faith? As John Kent in “A New Dictionary of Christian Theology” would put it. Your holy experience is only limited to you and your group whomst have been convinced. I believe you need to back this claim of absolute truth existing from the first place. Your analogy on smoking in relation to going from “reasonable skepticism on religion” to “absolute zeal” seems fallacious. I will assess this in both a “faith” point of view and my point of view. In terms of faith - what makes a cigarette (I assume) bad? The Bible doesn’t mention cigarette smoking. If you think The Bible does mention this in terms of euphemism or greater thought, that makes your argument already false as you’ve just shifted the argument from absolute truth to person-to-person interpretation of a book. In terms of my POV - cigarettes are neutral. It is neither bad nor good. It brings happiness, and quenches the thirst for kinetic pleasure (From Epicurus’ take on pleasure/hedonism) but also can kill you. Is this bad? Is dying bad? Is pleasure bad? Prove it. You said joining the community is freedom? Expand on how confining yourself to a set of beliefs and marginalising yourself from other beliefs is somehow liberating, not confining. Excellent take on how chapels are confining yourself to a set of beliefs. Contradictory, but honest. It is nothing more than propaganda and removal of freedom when all information given to you is final and not up for debate. However, I must disagree with your empathy for the speaker. For you, of (I assume again) mature age, was able to be brought up with critical thought and not affected by a certain group until the age of 18. However, from an adolescent point of view, this idea of accepting irrational propaganda is detrimental for their upbringing. This causes children to be stuck in a bubble, only increasing the marginalisation between critical thinking children and theology-brought children. It is both dangerous and irresponsible to just “let them say their beliefs” without challenging them when you so clearly disagree. If your thought span and beliefs change every week, then how come you still believe in Christianity to start with? Why haven’t you explored the world more in terms of ideology? Or are you just saying this to deflect any negative comments that may be made as they disagree with your viewpoints? “Grace precedes truth” - Contradiction with your previous statement. You said there are certain parts of your faith that are absolutely true but some parts are “outside human conscious”, therefore Grace does not precede truth, as you yourself have admitted to not being able to understand the “potential truth” fully. Hence, it is your subjective point of view. Deleting messages is censorship. Christianity has a long history of censorship, both legal and in their own community about opinions they disagree with. How can you expect others to consider picking up on your own ideas if you are so quick to censor anything that does not fit in your world view? Elaborate on how your mother went from feeling guilty about smoking cigarettes to stopped smoking due to realizing God’s love. Are you saying guilt is an acceptable or preferable method to stop “bad” things? Which by the way, you still have to prove the “bad”ness of smoking to prove your argument. If the prior statement I made is true, I have a whole lot of statistics of people who were murdered due to this rhetoric and policy. How is healing from the guilt of smoking somehow related to stopping smoking? Wouldn’t the guilt be the motivation to stop smoking, not the removal of the guilt itself? Again, where does it say in the Bible about “vaping”? To reply to the woman, the reason why churches and religions say “You are loved by God if you do/don’t “x”” is because that is not related to their deity but rather their own beliefs. Their love is not objective, but rather situational. Christians and other religions always say they love everyone, but from both history and mathematical statistics, that is not true. (i.e. being gay in Iran, being a coptic christian during the crusades) Obviously the message has been altered. Your entire religion is about a translation that spans hundreds of years, sects, and languages that are supposed to interpret God. This idea of superiority is called the religious superiority complex. Time has written about this. It is not only the basis for judgement of other faiths and non-believers, but also is responsible for thousands of religious wars. "I knew that my god was bigger than his," said Lieut. General William Boykin, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, referring to a Somali warlord he once crossed swords with. Judging people is making them more aware? Aware about what? I hope you realize the judging people from a Christian perspective trope has led to some interesting statistics on people commiting suicide. You don’t have to feel obligated to respond, this is just a different point of view.
