    My 7y.o. is reading easily at the 4th grade level, but spelling has not come as easily. We did the AASpelling placement test, she breezed through the reading, but misspelled 3 of the 7 dictated words ("bathetub" for bathtub; "qwik" for quick; and "chopstiks" for chopsticks). Because of that the placement test said Level 1. Viewing this. I'm afraid she might find Level 1 too easy, boring. Can we skip Level 1? Can we skip lessons within Level 1? Is there a Level 1 Table of Contents somewhere so I can see how many lessons in Level 1 we can skip?

      I think I might end up doing something along those lines Marie - probably less of the legal side of things (because others cover it better and I find it boring 😆) and more along the lines of how to come up with an idea that will work and how to plan it all out and make it happen - that's the sort of stuff I LOVE doing. And thank you! The sunshine this week has helped a lot too, it's harder to be stressed when it's bright and sunny.

    Kelly, firstly thank you for all you do. I started homeschooling my kids last year and one thing I see people ask over and over again is how to afford to do it. I myself created a digital product business to support myself and I've since created a membership group to help others do the same. Maybe you could create a membership group that helps others to create income streams and financial independence so they can homeschool and spend precious time with their families 😊 or maybe using your knowledge on homeschooling you could sell digital products related to homeschooling... something I would purchase is topic based learning guides - for instance... my kids are currently learning about Australian animals, I'd love a guide on what I could cover, ideas on how to make learning the subjects more fun etc. And what work I could get them to do. Kind of like how you brainstorm your ideas in the summit. So maybe they'd be more like brainstorming ideas sheets.... they would be super helpful for us newbies.

    • @FearlessHomeschool
      @FearlessHomeschool 2 года назад

      Thanks Liz 🧡 I do like the idea of helping others create online income, I've mapped something out that will help people plan out a business that actually makes money - I find most people teach the 'here's how to start a website, here's how to buy a domain' but there's not much about the sort of upfront planning that gets people making money quickly. How to cut the crap, in short! Topic based learning guides are interesting, not sure if they're something I'd enjoy doing, I'll experiment, but I'll keep it in mind for pushing others to do it 😉 Might be something I can do a couple of and make them available freely on my blog?

    Sounds like you've been having a Neptune transit, Kelly. Fog is a major descriptor of it, low energy, confusion. It's about dissolving what needs to go, and you end up on a distant shore, new lands with fresh eyes. And Neptune transits take a loooong time :) I like the business/financial independence ideas.

    • @FearlessHomeschool
      @FearlessHomeschool 2 года назад

      I just googled it and it said 13-14 years for a transit - NOOOOO! Another source said two years so I'm believing that one because it means it's over 😆 And your 'new lands' statement might be more apt that you intended, we're pretty sure we're going to take off travelling again very soon after 2.5 years off. Another vote for business building, that's good, I'm excited with the outline I've made for that idea!

    • @melindastclair
      @melindastclair 2 года назад

      @@FearlessHomeschool 13-14 years is how long it takes to go through a whole sign. The transit to a planet within the sign is the shorter number you mentioned. It gets longer when you have planets in a line that it's crossing over (a hard decade?) 😳

    Hi Kelly, exciting news and I admire your flexibility! I feel like there are many homeschool parents, especially mothers, who aim their content toward beginning homeschoolers. But I feel like you have the wisdom of a seasoned homeschooler with kids who are fledging. I would love to see what a homeschool can start to accomplish when your kids aren't little and snack time isn't such a big deal anymore! Here in the US, from media it seems that there are many infringements upon the rights of Australians. I would love to see you take on something in government or activism, or some other type of cause that you feel passionately about. And then you just bring us along for the ride. There are many things I feel I could do here in Texas locally, but the ages of my kids still precludes a lot. However, I want to start incubating ideas for the future if our homeschool. I want to see homeschooler doing critical thinking in a way that affects society and using her intelligent voice along with her children. Maybe that's living on a wildlife refuge to manage it, taking your kids on a traveling art journey, not just in galleries but outdoor installations, creating a children's science museum from public grants, or running for local public office but making it a family pursuit. What issues are important? How can you convey the values of your constituents? Campaign for election?...

    • @FearlessHomeschool
      @FearlessHomeschool 2 года назад

      Definitely NO politics or legal involvement here - it's the sort of stuff that drives me absolutely nuts! I much prefer to work outside of or subvert the system that take it on, or donate to projects I love rather than start something else up. And I'd have to live in one place to do many of those projects and that's NEVER worked for us.....😉 I'm surprised to find there's an interest in it though. I don't talk much about that sort of stuff, although I've included pics of my kids in protests etc. in my newsletters. I think your first few sentences nails a change I'd like to make though - you're right, there's so much out there for beginning homeschoolers, but not a great deal for long-termers. I think we figure people have it all figured out by then! But it comes with its own challenges. Thanks for the feedback, hugely appreciated and you've given me some interesting things to think about 😊

      @TessaAndrews 3 года назад

      Definitely phonics-based but technically, the child has to "memorize" the rules and apply them to all applicable words. If that makes sense. So there not taught to memorize the words, but rather, to learn and recall the rules as they say the words, recall and picture them in their head, and apply the rules to the word as they spell it. Hope that isn't confusing lol

      I find it depends on how easy the child finds a lesson - we've had a few that have been completed in 30m. But I think if you allow about 20m a day, 4 days a week, you'd comfortably complete a lesson if the child is ready for it.

    I'm considering purchasing this for my family, and having my oldest two (they will be 2nd and 5th) start from level 1. Do you think this would be frustratingly easy for an older child? Also, do you recommend getting each of them a student pack? Of could I get away with just one?

      Hi Ally, there are placement tests on the site, I recommend doing those before choosing a level. You might be able to use one student packet for two children, but I think it's best to have one each, so you can organise the flashcards per child. Otherwise, if one has mastered a word/sound and the other hasn't, it will be hard to make sure you're giving them each the proper review. I have a blog post with links to the placement tests and more info. fearlesshomeschool.com/homeschooling-spelling/ Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any more questions you have.

    Thanks for this video. I assume this isn't the color version they have now? Also did your child use the All about Reading? My child just finished lev 2. We started homeschooling this year and started with lev 2 because that is where he was at. So now we are ready to add All about spelling. And according to the placement test it says to start with lev 1 in the spelling. But the phonograms he already knows, so i am just curious how that works? Maybe he is just that much further ahead? Thanks in advance. :D

      Hi Tina, you're right, this is the non-colour version, and yes, we've also used All About Reading. Hmm, that's a tricky one. If I were you'd I'd start with level 2 and see how he goes. He might fly through it, or he might find spelling the phonograms from memory trickier than reading them. If he has trouble you can always go back to level 1. Hope that helps!

      I'd reccomend starting with level one, if it's too easy you can go through it quicker or switch, that way you build on confidence rather than getting a higher level, finding it's too hard and risking his confidence in spelling. Of course, some children are more sensitive than others on this but this is a way to make sure there's less gaps in a child's knowledge too. :)

    This looks great, Kelly. Can I ask, did you purchase the pre-reading kit for your children? Or did you start at level 1?

      Hi Belinda, we started at level 1, we found that the normal everyday stuff we did was enough to cover pre-reading.
