Narrated by Abu Amer: He heard the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying: “Among my nation there will be people who consider adultery, wearing silk, drinking alcohol, and playing music....” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 5590] In this hadith, he mentioned musical instruments along with clear prohibitions, such as alcohol, wearing silk (for men), and adultery. Therefore, this hadith clearly explains that playing musical instruments was narrated by Al-Rabi’ bint Muaz: Some young women beat the tambourine and sang a lament for my father, who died on the day of Badr. One of the girls said: We have a prophet among us who knows what tomorrow will be like. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, interrupted him: “Do not say this, but say like what I said before.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 4001] Based on this other hadith, some scholars believe that the only permissible musical instruments are the tambourine and the darbuka
