Airborne pollution is exacerbated by the use of rubber tyres, which causes the tarmac or concrete road surfaces to deteriorate. Guided buses/trolleybuses/trams ride quality is only as good as the road surface. Steel on steel is more efficient and environmentally friendly. This is a failed technology, as in France.

This would be a neat solution for a route that basically needs streetcar or tram capacity, but maybe the route is too steep for steel on steel.

France invented that. And seriously thinking about discarding it, as it has no real advantage over conventionnal tram, except maybe a higher cost...

It's lack battery recharging at station in less than 30 seconds for a range extension of 3 km, to drop definitively catenary and pavement contact rail, but it is a very good concept ...

This painting is based on the schematic, combining railway of Riga city with the most beautiful railway “Jing-zhang section” down the Great Wall. Two railways connect each other, symbolizing our intercommunicating hearts. The railway through the old town, the ancient castle blocks, the Daugava River, the majestic mountains, the magnificent Great Wall, all these elements were involved in this painting, expressed by the impressionism and the oriental ink smudging skills. An exciting picture is unfolding with two old cultures blending perfectly, just like the “Belt and Road” project constructing the friendship bridge for two country people. Sincerely I wish the best luck to 2021 World Ice Hockey Championship, and also great success of Latvian athletes in 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Illustration of Painting Back in 2017, when I was chatting with my friend from Latvia, a railway schematic came into my view. It was just like a bridge on land connecting Beijing, Paris and many other European countries. This reminded me of the great “Belt and Road” project because they have a lot in common. Latvia is a beautiful country, famous as “Beaten heart of Baltic sea”, as well, Riga, known as “Northern Paris”, is a city full of art atmosphere. From then on, I started to pay close attention to this country where I have never been to from my friend and all kinds of media. It was right in 2017, Riga and Beijing became the friendly cities. Riga and Minsk will hold 2021 World Ice Hockey Championship, and Beijing will hold 2022 Winter Olympic Games. 2018 is the 100th anniversary of Latvia’s Independence. It is of great pleasant to welcome so many wonderful things for both cities in the near future. As the resident of Winter Olympic holding town, I am great honored to give my painting, Belt Road Over Flowers, inspired by this schematic, to Latvian friends as the gift of celebrating the 100th anniversary of Independence.
