David Young - Transitioning from Mechanics to the Mental Aspect - Clay Mastermind with Dawn Grant
Hi, I have analyzed your RUclips channel and found some problems. I want to share some tips with you. I hope it will be very useful for you.
Maybe the best podcast I've herd in a few years. I'd like to hear episode 2 with Nick and Dawn!
What a great video. It’s inspiring me to do something about the deteriorating vision in my dominant right eye. Clay Lab’s scientific approach to sporting clays topics is second to none, love it
So happy to hear it! I've got more from Dr Colo coming as well! Be sure to listen to his podcasts as that info has changed my game!
I practice sparingly, but I shoot 2x registered shoots a week in skeet. I shoot sporting occasionally and I find for skeet, it's all competition practice after a while, sporting takes longer to master presentations so I should do more practice, but AA in skeet and A in sporting, the biggest training for me is the mental now
More experience and more targets the better!
I'd love to see NSCA adopt a handicap system similar to golf. The USGA oversees tens of thousand of posted scores to derive individual handicaps for each player so that two players of different abilities and skill levels can compete head to head. Sporting Clays desperately needs to incorporate a handicap system to promote both formal and informal competition.
Definitely a good subject. I personally like how the PSCA does their classification.
I wish they didn’t edit what he was saying at around 24:30, I would like to hear an explanation of the process that he teaches. Also, it would have been nice if Dawn were listening when he asked for help stopping smoking. This has been my favorite guest so far and I really enjoyed the interview.
Highly appreciate you being a listener. Sorry about the edit around 24:30, it was his actual signal that caused it to sound like it was edited out. Sometimes it's hard to get quality audio when guests don't have a nice setup for audio recording. Believe he was on his phone at the time.
Very grateful humble young man!!
Absolutely 💯
Excellent job with the interview/discussion and really nice guest selection in Jasper Copelan. Always appreciate a host that allows the guest to fully respond (w/o interruption) and a guest that provides listeners with a genuine answer, personal to him. Fine question mix of the personal and professional with follow-up.
Thank you! Trying to bring value to the community and Cody has been crushing it for sure.
Can I ask why you dont shoot as a skeet target with sustained lead rather than catch and move past?
You need to make more of these videos Will. Your lessons have helped me a lot. Best video I,ve seen.
JP here. I'll let Will know! I'm working with all the different coaches and pros to get videos out on how they approach different presentations so we can hopefully build a massive library for the clay lab followers!
If you get a chance, take some lessons with Cody. I have started shooting sporting clays at age 65. His instruction is great !!!
He is an awesome communicator who truly understands the game from visual control, mechanics and mental game!
Great podcast !!!!!
Thanks for listening!
Thanks Will and JP. Now if the snow here would bugger off.
Sure hope it does soon for you guys!
Can you show one on arching or curling loopers. Those are my nemesis.
Got it!
@claylabusa at my local club. If they have a tower, you can bet your ass. That one of them is going to be a looper/transition bird.
Love seeing you not shoulder the gun prior to start. Just my opinion, but shouldering should not be allowed in sporting clays. Go back to the old way with a line on your shirt just above your armpit.
Have you shot FITASC before?
@@justindeaton7301 Unsure, it was just the way I was taught by a master instructor 35 years ago. His courses were hard. 110's, 90's, rabbits, mini's. Reaction shots...aiming was not possible. Speed loading for continuous birds. Have never seen anything like it again on a sporting course. It was crazy fun. Shot his club for 5 years when I started. Is fitasc like that? Now I just shoot courses blind, no prep, no looks at birds. More fun that way.
@@robertbiermann4666definately look at finding a FITASC lay out in your area. Its not exactly as you describe but its the closest to real game simulation. Massive variation in target presentation and terrain. And yes ..not allowed to mount the gun before you can see the bird. Great fun. ...The F1 of clay shooting.
Why?
The man's a stud at low gun for sure. Don't think the sport will ever go back to it being the rule but those that get it definitely have an advantage of getting the gun out their face.
Would Like to see a video on Rabbue targets
Got it! Big topic with so many variations but will get to it!
This one's a great topic now howa bout the pesky flying rabbit.
No one actually knows how to shoot a Rabbue...haha jk got it on the list brother!
I just love your show and presentation keep rgem coming....@claylabusa
@@DFox-ud3gx Absolutely will do!
Being a fellow coach, i agree with every word you say. Including your opening comments. Excellent communication of method and also execution on shotcam.
Awesome to hear it! Thanks!
Great video as always
Thank you. An oldie but a goodie full of knowledge
His biggest accomplishment would have been showing his butt in a shop window until he bottled it 😂
Great video! Keep up the great woek! Would love to see Will's take on shooting trap-style targets with distance, i.e., trap is set at 25 yards or further. Straight away and/or quartering.
Oh he's got a whole lesson on trap targets. It's one of the key parts of the game that I've worked hours drilling on the range at various distances. Got it written down so I appreciate you making the comment!
Absolutely! Love the channel and what you guys do! Keep it up!
@@blacktopcharters7313 Will Do thank you for being a supporter!
How accurate is the shot cam with the lead?
If the Shotkam has been properly calibrated, it's very accurate.
Left to right lead is spot on. As the shotkam is calibrated at a particular distance, the "lead" up and down will be skewed based on the range of the target. Left to right though 👌
@@claylabusa thank you
Loopers! For those on this side of the pond 🇬🇧
While I did tell myself that the first couple chandelles shown looked like loopers, and wondered what the difference was, I must say I’ve otherwise only ever heard the word chandelle out of Brits’ mouths, TGS, Lloyd, Solomons, Husthwaite, and Digweed included.
@@herpderpinson6117 @herpderpinson6117 ruclips.net/video/-dwFl1k85P0/видео.htmlsi=F5HsNwB6Km_qIYM0 ruclips.net/video/nxcYrC6hEYU/видео.htmlsi=wKuUqVv5lo6sS2t-
That's the best part of the game, no only one way to get the job done and Josh brown is a fantastic shooter and coach as well. Whichever method you prescribed to will definitely play a role in how you approach different presentations.
Bought my 5'1" daughter a Syren L4S and she loves it. Much easier for her than shooting my 9 lb Summit Ascent!
Bet that was a dramatic improvement for sure! Happy to hear it!
Nick Hendrick, top bloke! Not a bad shot either 🇬🇧 ❤
Absolutely!
good gun talk
Absolutely and thanks!
Great podcast! Will asked me “goals” question and flubbed to answer, now I know. Fortunately, retired, so have the time and money. Work was flying, so life on the road is done, but goofing a station and that weighing on me for the next is a problem for me.
I hear ya! Life is about to get a lot simpler with that retirement!
@ I am retired, just direction challenged on goals. Love the podcasts, maybe I’ll see in Florida
Great interview!
Glad to hear it! Dawn has been spreading out her podcast across shooters of all backgrounds big and small so its great to get different perspectives. Thanks for being a subscriber!
Al nice, but these guys are selling products they don't have. I'm into my 13th -- no typo -- MONTH waiting for my order, and this guy's office can't even tell me when it will arrive. That is dishonest. It stopped me from ordering another company's shotgun.
Will forward this, depending on what you bought and where from all sorts of stuff could happen I'm sure.
What kind of protection do you like the best? I’m looking for ear plugs, but have a hard time keeping them in.
Anything custom molded. I prefer my Soundgear Phantoms but there are cheaper options out there. I just like the fancy creature comforts they provide on top of the high end protection.
Eye dominance, right on, 'looking forward to more discussion, if and when.
Absolutely! I'll keep on him to make sure we get it!
Does jim greenwood advise mounting to the face or mounting to the shoulder?
Great question, never heard him speak to one or the other specifically, only emphasizing the fact that you mount the same way everytime. I'll save this for the next podcast with him.
@claylabusa id sure be interested to hear what he recommends.
Happy new year everyone
Happy New Years!!!!!!
Another very enjoyable podcast, If I can ever find the money , I'd love to have a stock made. happy New Year.
Happy New Year! Glad you enjoyed it! I can tell you I paid full price for my pattern stock and it was the best money I ever spent for my game.
I just had a Greenwood pattern stock done at Will’s place. Very enjoyable and worthwhile experience. Jim was very kind and thoughtful.
Absolutely! I get the chance to work with the best in the industry and thankfully I can be very picky and work with those I truly trust when it comes to my equipment and performance. Plus isn't Fennell's place awesome! Could spend weeks there at a time and still have stuff to do.
Best way to find out what model k80 would be best for me?
I need that B roll in the first half so I can hype up my man before all his shoots 😁😁
Haha don't let his head get too big
I want more info on those extreme chokes
I'll pass it alonga
Hope to be as good as Matt some day!
I'll let him know!
2:28 Expedtion wood? What is that?
Exhibition is what he meant, but expedition wood could be very durable and adventurous lol
Matt that is some gun i love the mid rib as well.
He really has some good taste for sure
I have a. Invictus 3 limited and love it❤
Definitely a nice shotgun too! Soo many nice ones out there!
Nice work Matt!!
He really did a great job!
Thank you!!! It was extremely fun to work with Jeremy, he really did a great job on the video!!!
Makes me wish I had 28k and a willing wife. Lol
Hahaha don't we all! There's some pretty stuff out there and I sure would like to get my hands on alot of them.
The willing wife is key 😄 Sincerely, Willing Wife
WOW!! Absolutely beautiful. I love the innovation built-in to create a clay smashing workhorse, but still able to produce a work of art.
Absolutely right!? Regardless of which brand someone aligns with we've got to have an appreciation for innovation, changes, and beautiful work!
