I had a major accident and am paralyzed to the right leg, I have bladder retention and according to two scans, there is always 280-300cc left in the bladder. The paralysis was due to a squished nerve in my lower back. My last scan was today, same thing. I should send my urologist this video

Good vid. I got a back injury a few weeks back. For some days now, I've been guessing when to urinate since I'm not getting the nerve signals to do so. Wonder if that heals on its own.

Excellent video!!! Loved the explanation! i have a question, in the case of of sacral spinal cord injury, from what i understand according to this video, that the injury interrupts the bladder reflex-meaning if urine fills & fills no sensation & no contraction can be felt nor occur. This results in bladder holding lots of urine without the urgency sensation. No detrusor contraction or diminished causing flaccid bladder & stress incontinence occurs. If the urine is also retained in this case, why are there no high bladder pressure or hydronephrosis like the suprasacral SCI? is it just bcs of weak bladder& sphincters? I hope im making sense.

Hello! I hope my answer is not disrrspectful... I know this video refers to people and it's not easy at all to live with it. Now I'm genuinely worried about my male cat who had spinal cord injury back in March 2020 and now is missing. I emptied his bladder manually every single day until Nov 3rd 2021 (and it was usually really full, few times not - maybe he drank less water). Then he got lost this week. I'm not sure if he can pee on his own and I'm worried the bladder might burst if nobody is there to help him. It's not written on him he has this condition. Is there a hope he can empty the bladder on his own now, 1 year 7 months after the injury? Around the time 7:00 in this video, there was something about reflexes coming back after longer time (he can walk and poop on his own, btw). What are the chances of him being still alive 4 days on his own with this condition?? (if I suppose he gets food and water somewhere...) It would be horrible to die in pain from this condition...

The injury is about 2/3 down to his tail. Also his tail had to be amputated (one half of it), as it was too long and he just dragged it behind him

Only sacral nerves innervates the bladder? What about the sympathetic innervation (T11 to L2)? They don't have any role in these injuries?? Pls explain.

I had a disc extrusion and sequestration at L5S1 and aside from causing excruciating pain and loss of the ability to walk, I also lost the ability to urinate during that time. I had a microdiscectomy and laminectomy but the weakness and pain in my leg never went away and I was left with urinary retention. . Now I get UTI’s frequently - about 4 a year.

I always feel like i have to pee. Its as if i constantly feel it filling. Mris did show i have 2 bulging discs next to each other in my cervical spine. My neuro didnt think much of it but a chiropractor wanted to fix it. Is it possible this could be causing bladder issues?
