Hjalmar Schacht: The Nazi Economy’s Mastermind | SLICE WHO | FULL DOCUMENTARY
Hjalmar Schacht, the forgotten mastermind behind Germany’s economic revival, remains one of the most controversial figures of the 20th century. He crushed the hyperinflation of 1923, rescued Germany from the Great Depression, and whispered economic strategies to world leaders-including Roosevelt. Yet his legacy is forever tainted by his collaboration with Hitler.
From saving the Weimar Republic to enabling the Nazi rise to power, from conspiring against the Führer to standing trial at Nuremberg-Schacht's story is one of genius, ambition, and moral ambiguity. How did this man, linked to Nazi policies and the war economy, escape conviction? And why did history erase his name?

as a proud french canadian this is nice to see, but to me the most interesting notion is that the basque had knowledge of the labrador and coast of st laurent river long before Cartier and Cabot described these regions, their prescence was so rooted that most of the first interactions we did with the natives (algonquin tribes) had to be in basque, more to this pirates and corsairs from allover western europe often frequented these waters as its offered a good resting/hiding spot. It is sad that the basque people did not keep records, understandable that a community of fisherman didnt breed good historians

What a sublime, stunning, superb documentary. I honestly think it might be the best Art History documentary I've ever seen 🤔 I learnt, not only about Vermeer, not only about art, but also history, politics, religion, the interplay of literature and art, the power of silence and the rise and fall of greatness. There's even a Nazi 😂

I suspect that a trader from Scandinavia visited her home village and mated with her. He caught her attention and imagination and heard about his homeland. She had a child by him, so she had to wait for her child to be old enough to make the journey. She eventually met up with him and became a trader like her mate. The child must have looked like dad to be so completely welcomed. By the way, traveling with a child is never easy, the level of responsibility is huge. Maybe Scandi dad swung back to her village and the casual hookup became permanent?

This is my first time stumbling onto this channel, I think I'll stay awhile. Although Dr. Death is Dr. Josef Mengele. The infuriating thing about Mengele (or Dr. Death) is that he never actually faced any consequences for his heinous actions. His medical experiments on twins, and other unlucky camp prisoners were about as evil as you can get. He successfully fled to Brazil and lived out his days as a free man. He was tracked by the same team of Mossad agents who successful captured Eichmann. The cost of the investigation and Israel's deteriorating relationship with Egypt ultimately led to the operation to capture Dr. Death being abandoned. He ended up having a heart attack while swimming and drowned in the ocean in Sao Paulo in 1979 when he was 67. It is one of the most frustrating story of a war criminal escaping justice scot-free. He never showed an ounce of remorse for his crimes and used the, "I was only following orders" defense that was commonly adopted by arrested Nazi war criminals. Mengele was easily one of the top 3 evil Nazis.

Why is it described as a defeat, when Napoleon and 10,000 men did manage to escape across the Berezina? Yes, the human cost was horrendous yet still, the Russians failed to reach their objectives. Despite being synonymous with "disaster" in French, in fact historians widely assessed it as a French victory; a defeat would have meant Napoleon surrendering with the whole officer corps and staffs of the Grande Armée.
