    Hi Dave, thank you for the video. I am few years late but I just purchased a 2011 Q5 2.0 TFSI and looks I need to the same. However, I have replaced many valve cover gaskets in my life time but first on Audi. So am not finding many videos on how you or others actually remove the valve or camshaft cover without rolling the rockers or the camshaft! is there a special method we need to lock them in place before starting to removing screws and the cover ? The videos I found including yours, the cover is already off so am a bit nervous as I do not have more info on how to do this! Can you Plz shed some more light on what you did to make sure the rockers do not roll or camshaft do not move ? Thank you

    • @culturalhouse2643
      @culturalhouse2643 Год назад

      There are specific Audi camshaft “spacers” and “lockers” that you can buy from Audi . However, you only use those things if you want to remove the cam cover and cylinder head in one single piece. If you’re looking just to remove the cam cover, then you don’t need those “spacers” and “lockers”. Rockers will not move but camshafts will slide once you take off the cover.

  • @FloridaBikeSupplyOnline

    HPFP comes off in about 7 minutes. The Vacuum pump take about 2 minutes after the HPFP is off. Then take off your camshaft adjuster magnet, then your variable valve timing solenoid, then Upper timing cover. Which takes about 10 minutes. Then start the cam cover removal. Great vid! Cheers Putting the engine in TDC using a long socket extension in cylinder 1, turn the crank bolt clockwise until the extension peaks, this helps with the lobes on your cams. Then the Cam cover sealant you want to use is called anaerobic, it's either red or green, this helps seal the cam cover with a very thin layer to keep tolerances correct. RTV silicone will not seal correctly with such a thin layer and has a possibility to be thick and throw off cam tolerances.

    Just an update most of my issues were related to the PVC module the aftermarket PVC assembly is defective by design the OEM assembly works much better. The leaks where resolved engine is still good 30k miles later. So permatex is a feasible alternative. Again buy a new OEM PVC assembly first that may prevent oil seepage by maintaining proper internal pressures.

      You have to remove the PCV assembly there are bolts under it. Once all the bolts are out the pressure from the cams will push it free. But if you lossen them or tighten them too unevenly it may bend the valve cover. Unless it's a different design. Watch the video closely i think i mention everything.

    I've done this same repair and it's a challenging one for sure. The components you didn't remove from the valve cover can stay attached during removal, but I found that trying to reinstall the cover with them in was impossible. 1 bolt and they're out and they're all identical so no worries about mixing them up. My advice is to remove them tho. The metal gasket between the cover and high pressure pump on the car I repaired was ripped so I had to remove the pump. You can do that without removing fuel lines and there's enough room towards the firewall that the pump can be pushed back, gasket in, and then pump reinstalled so it runs off the cam. It's a bugger of a job but not impossible

      I didn't have any trouble with the cams coming completely off they're held on by the cam gears they will become loose near the rear of the engine I took a file and it's a line in each cam gear and it's the line in the chain just in case I bumped them loose be sure to remove the high pressure fuel pump and the vacuum pump on the rear of the head the rest is pretty straightforward just familiarize yourself with the idea and concept of torque sequence you want to loosen all the bolts a little and then a little more and then when you replace them tighten a little and then a little more all the way around so you apply equal pressure and not an uneven amount of pressure on one single boat or it will crack the valve cover

    • @MrDavestone999
      @MrDavestone999 4 года назад

      Be sure your lever for the auxiliary Hydraulics was not left in the far-right position make sure it's in the middle it could have overheated something if it was stuck in the actuated on position to the far right I believe it sounds like you don't have any pressure coming out of the valve that controls the foot control I forget the name it should be bolted on the side of the frame beside the hydro stat the line that goes into the hydrostat if you look at the schematic should have full pressure all the time it's possible something in that control valve is stuck and diverging pressure around hydrostat with the engine running crack the feed line for the hydrostat until pressure comes out if no pressure comes out and you have the fitting loose already there's definitely something wrong inside the control valve that's on the side of the frame it's the valve where the foot controls hook up to if you watch a few videos it's pretty easy to rebuild but extremely hard to get out my email mrdavestone999@gmail.com send me an email I can dig up a PDF for that machine if I still have it I got it for free somewhere

      That Port Block in those O-rings have to be completely tight it has to actually be able to suck the oil in not just gravity feeding it if youroil is turning white you're sucking in air if you have pressure at the top of your hydrostat and your oil is not turning white but your bucket moves jack up the machine and with it running rotate the wheels by hand 15 or 20 times each see if there's just are in the hydro stat I believe also to get the air out you can run the return line directly into the reservoir tank you need a schematic to find the right line off of the port block and a little Jerry rigging
