In the mid-1980s, the CBC re-ran The Prisoner on Sundays at midnight. At the time, I was studying Physics in university. Everyone in the faculty was mad about the show. We'd come in Monday mornings and theorise wildly about how to accomplish some of the tricks or traps of the show. James Bond was fun, but The Prisoner made you think and feel cool just by watching.

I saw this episode when I was only seven years of age. That song still is in my head (as well as The Village band's version of the Radetsky March). The woman that Mme. Engadine introduces No. 6 to was also Mrs. Butterworth (Georgia Cookson) in "Many Happy Returns" (Episode 7) in this amazing series. I have used that line, "This is a DREAMY party!" in the same manner as the late, great Patrick McGoohan literally hundreds of times as a guest at parties over the past four decades. Only twice has someone recognized the line. And we ended the party by saying "Be seeing you" with the hand sign used in The Village. By the way, Rover gave me nightmares as a child. Especially when he suffocated the Villager in the first episode. Nightmares. Be seeing you! No. 122

This is what happens when you mix alcohol and benzos. Lol But I remember the first time I saw this episode, 1994. Had the song running through my head for days after. Fast forward to New Years Eve 2011, and I had this played by the DJ, just as everyone reached their peak of being wasted. I remember there was a co-worker of mine at the time so drunk he was dancing in the corner of the room, facing the wall! The scene that night pretty much captured the spirit of this scene out of the episode.

I sort of think of Ice Station Zebra as a prequel to The Prisoner. You can see why he was so fed up that he resigned. The way McGoohan played the character was so Number Six/John Drake it isn't hard to imagine this could be why he resigned.

L'accident ! Quelle maîtrise, Bravo,

Did you have any luck? I recently recorded this film off of TCM (Turner Classic Movies), and was quite thrilled by it. I hope that you've had the opportunity to find it, by now. Haunting and weirdly-wonderful film, that is, for the most part, an obscure treasure.

The actual title for the music is 'Bienvenue Mr. Jones (welcome, Mr. Jones). It was written as an incidental piece by Jack Arel and Pierre Dutour (incidentally, a lot of their background music is used today. It's a heavily sampled catalogue).

Possibly coincidental, but John Drake frequently was presented as 'Mr. Jones' in some Danger Man episodes.
