Highway 17 is a beautiful drive. But only the passengers can enjoy the views more because the driver really has to concentrate on that winding, hilly highway. My husband and I drove on 17 in late February this year. We were visiting Monterey for a few days, and then later we drove to Santa Cruz for the afternoon, we heard there was going to storm, it was so windy in Santa Cruz so that cut our day short and we already had plans to go to San Francisco. By the time we got on the 17, it rained all the time we were on the 17. It was my second time on that highway. It was scary for me, but my husband has been on the 17 a few more times, so he knows it well, and of course, he drove safely. Some people drove faster while it was pouring rain, passing around other drivers, crazy people. Some people just love to drive faster in the rain and weave in and out of traffic. It was a weekday, so it was surprisingly a lot of cars that day. There's a lot of places I want to stop and see but it was too rainy. Maybe another time in the summer.
