"Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley
Aloha from Stash Dauber World Headquarters via satellite. Thisun goes out to my first college roommate and lead singer Rob Thomson (RIP), who loved Elvis unironically.

"Substitute" by The Who

A fave from the second LP I had to hear four times a day when I was 12. Lyric change is per the US Atco single (with Ginger Baker's "Waltz for a Pig" by the Graham Bond Organization on the flip), which avoids the Black-white dichotomy that doesn't apply to your humble singer of songs, and refers back to the bridge of "Circles" aka "Instant Party," so there.

Spent a lot of time trying to decode Mr. Johnson's style ca. 1990. This is as close as I can get.

PT wrote this for his mom. "Leeds" changed my life and "Quadrophenia" saved it, but "Sell Out" remains magical.

Merry Christmas!
Absolute legend
You got it dude. Thanks for that oft-forgotten bridge.
Probably my favorite guitar part across the entire album. The bends around the 0:56 second part are just some of the most satisfyingly dangerous things to appear in music. Fundamental math/avant-prog. Unbelievably ahead of his time. Man invented math rock.
You’re genuinely one of my favorite guitarists I’ve ever seen and I’ve truly been moved and inspired by your videos long live zoot horn
That's very kind of you to say and yes, ZHR rules!
I love Velvet underpants , especially now at this time of year with the cold !
@@Stuart68-s6f ha
Thank you
@@robertoconnor1602 Thanks for listening.
You are incredible I'll be watching every Captain Beefheart you've done now 😎
@@tlewis5953 There's a few of 'em!
I'm blown away great cover sir 👍
@@tlewis5953 Thank you!
The guitar isolated sounds so "normal"😂
@@rafffaaa6975 Context and expectation are everything.
Excellent Ken , bravo .
@@mattgrant6910 Thanks, Matt!
Criminally underrated
Brilliant Ken .
Thanks, man. Made a loop of this to practice blowing lead over it. Can't cop Winged Eel's licks, but want to see if I can try to match his feel.
So lovely! Love the comment below.
Yes Ken . What lovely playing . Like an appalachian sunset over the mountains. Sweetest water on earth .
Thank you , Ken ! 👍😌
Really nice , sounds good with the nylon strings , it’s got those Brazilian sounding chord changes , never realised .on a lighter note I thought it was she’s a filthy cow when I first heard it . Infact it kinda stuck .
@@mattgrant6910 HA! Now I'm hearing it.
Good picking, Ken!
Thanks!
Awesome!!! Greetings from Brasil!!
Thank you!
The section at 1:15 in Fahey's version makes me feel like I'm 8 years old every time I hear it...great job!! Love your Beefheart covers too!
Thanks! When I first heard Fahey's, I thought it sounded "wrong" compared to Bola Sete's, but now I like the way that bit kind of "builds" anticipation for the high D.
Keep doing what you do.😊
Smile, Dude. This is supposed to be fun.
I am smiling.
Thank you ❤❤❤
Lovely!
Better than The Who , really prefer your tone
@@mattgrant6910 Kind of you to say, I dig the sound of nylon strings too.
I can’t believe you remembered all that . Amazing . How many times have you listened to it ?
@@mattgrant6910 Only took me 20 years to learn! I've been playing it since 2020, it's a little more challenging on the classical.
you played it so well! very cool.
@@getuliotecchio Thanks!
WHEN I GET LONESOME, THE WIND BEGIN TO MOAN
Nice playing.
@@matthewwojtas7605 Thanks!
One of my favorites.
@@RaiderJay9092 mine too!
"Get some bears to take me in" Awesome job. Studying Beefheart is like a master class in dissonance. 👍
Nice interpretation of maybe the weirdest song on Trout Mask.
Fantastic job.
That was actually.... Amazing! 10/10 for the solo
Wonderful !
hell yeah
Could you give us the chords, please?
Oh boy! Sounds like work. Here goes: 1) INTRO G 2) VERSE C G Am G G (x2) 3) PRE-CHORUS Am G F C D G Repeat 2, hold last G 4) CHORUS C G Am G F C D G C G Am G F C D E A E F# E D A B E A E F# E D E 5) BRIDGE E D E (x2) A G A (x2) D C D (x2) G F G G Repeat 2-4 Does that make sense?
*My bad. Strike "Repeat 2-4." Instead, play C G Am G F C D G C G Am G F G F G
Fantastic, have just finally purchased an ebow after knowing about these for years....fun in the sun!
I need the tab for the very last 2 bars, just trying to get that riff down and im so close
@@WithdrawalDH I don't do tabs but I have nonstandard notation I used which I'd be happy to share if you tell me where to send it.
Hey, mr. I could possibly play drums and SING as if I'm John French

You are a god to me. A living legend from the looks of it.
You are far too kind.
I love how the guitar solo gets louder and louder as you keep layering it. Amazing!!
Man that sounds like Boston tea party velvets doin sister ray
I take that as high praise. Thanks, Matt!
Bravo , can you tell me a good capo to buy ?
I just bought the cheapest one there was, can't recall the name.
@@stashdauber yeah I tend to agree . Yours looks like the one I saw .
outstanding loved it my friend
Ichiban!
Seriously bad.
One of Waits' saddest songs, and that's saying something. Nicely done. Check out Phoebe Bridgers' amazing version if you haven't heard it.
@@RobHutten I love that "Women Sing Waits" comp.
Very impressive. Digging through the other Beef on your channel now.
