Celebrating my 67th turn around El Sol by squinting over my bifocals to read the lyrics to this song I was reminded of by hearing in in "The Bear" S3.
"Bold As Love" by Jimi Hendrix (interrupted by the arrival of Emperor Fluffy Butt)

Spent a lot of time with this LP the semester I dropped out of college. Seeing if I remember this. My favorite bit of Jimi's artistry is his rhythm playing.

Hadn't listened to "Back in the USA" in decades. My favorite song on the LP on days when "Shakin' Street" is not. RIP Wayne, John, and Dennis.

I never knew the words after the guitar solo until I heard Scott Colby sing them on a Henry Kaiser vid. We live in an exciting world We were young in the 20th century But let me be honest The tide will come surfing in We're swept away by so many dangers But nothing comes my way.

Respect to Buck Dharma.
"The Red and the Black" by Blue Oyster Cult (Emperor Fluffy Butt version)
Просмотров 953 месяца назад
I worked on this quite a bit because I can't actually play as fast as Buck Dharma his Gatemouth Brown runs and bluegrass velocity picking make me sweat. At the end of the time I allotted for this, the best take was one where Emperor Fluffy Butt (Auggie) had interposed himself between me and the camera during the solo. However, you can still see my left hand (thanks, pal), so this is going to ha...

Dennis Thompson song from "High Time." Harder than it sounds. I fail to do Fred and Wayne justice on the breaks. Note the attempted "I Just Don't Know" quote at the end. "High Time" was of immeasurable importance to me when I was 14. Long live the Five.

Another Fred Smith song from "High Time." Picked up some pointers from Professor Wayne's tutorial. Watch me watching my pedals: Ditto looper, MCR Phase 90 for the intro, and Marshall Bluesbreaker for the solo. Abrupt end because the Ditto ran out of memory. Long live the Five.

The lyrics (which I sang acoustic on another vid) kind of tell the story of the Five. A couple of clams here, but better takes were disrupted by my cat sitting in front of the camera. RIP Wayne Kramer.

Fred Smith song from "High Time." The dissonance on the IV change is intentional stacking a Gm7 and a Cm7. (Professor Wayne said, and I believe.) Omitted last verse because the Ditto memory quits at 5 minutes.

I'll die without any ink, but this song and album were magic when I was 13. plus I'm wearing the T-shirt.

@@ukuleleshion Thanks! I think...
WONDERFUL
Thanks, Carlton! Your opinion means a lot to me.
So beautiful! Thanks Ken.
Well done. Thanks. I needed that. Good to see your face and hear your voice. It's been a while.
@@honchiejake I'll say. Hope you're well!
That’s a great tone you’ve got
Thanks!
Really cool man
Thanks!
Is this in standard?
Yes
Great cover buddy. Luv Hendrix.
The water I grew up swimming in.
Another one of my all time favorites. Used to cover this with my old Prog band back in high school.
Wow thank you for this, incredible work on an incredible song! I also think we have the same guitar which is reassuring knowing that this style of playing may be in my grasp if I work toward it
It's a Lone Star Strat with Seymour Duncan HB by the bridge (hidden by my right hand).
Amazing guitar work, this is mu favorite song from Shiny Beast, are you using standard tuning?
Yes, standard tuning.
@@stashdauber thank you. Your videos are very inspiring
@@RetroHousecr That's kind of you to say.
The original is played in the same position but in D Standard tuning! Sounds way better with the lowered tuning. Great cover - especially the solo!
it's like when you listen to a Stones song - but there's 2 guitars - in different tune-ings. DoGGee - hahhaha
@@zahadou Oh dude, that confuses the shit out of me. Like when I was a kid I was like, why does Keith's G chord sound so thick and full? Then I grew up and realized it was Open G tuning haha
Which Gibson is that?
Epiphone Sheraton.
Fantastic guitar solo!!! 🎸 👏👏
Just trying to cop Lou's.
n o need to pre apologize for what ...? that little stumble? who am i /? no , no no .in fact that is what sells it :)
Great voice !
That's kind of you to say.

I never thought I would find something like this on the internet. Truly so cool man I love this song
Came for the Ken, stayed for the Emperor ---both were amazing 🤩 😻
Good to hear from you, man! Hope you and your family are well! Please tell your dad I said hey.
You too bud! I will tell him for sure 😊
That was good I ain’t lying you got the voice to pull that off really
❤️🔥❤️
NICE VOCALS ✌
❤
came across you playing my fav song of all time kandy korn... and now this!! Amazing!!
Nice❤
Great effort. Love this 4 chord trick wonder from the VU 😎
Fast and bulbous
That makes it a lot easier for me 👍
Never known anyone to cover this, nice job. New sub.
Lovely as a baby bird
BaddAss
Awesome playing Ken. Never heard anyone play Kandy Korn before I love the Mirror Man Sessions.
Drop D ? Sounds great
Mostly A's -- AAAEAE.
Thank you Ken, very well done. My very favorite Hendrix tune. 👏
Big help, thanks Ken!
Hi Nicely Done 😂
Thanks, I may have to learn this.
If this guy was two guys, he could tour now as the Magic Band.
Ha! If I could find anybody else who wanted to play this music in my neck of the woods, I could sell my looper pedal.
As always a very good performance! 🎸🤘
Thanks for listening
I'm not a fan of tattoos, but this is a good song with good touches of humour. You perform it well.
Very well done, young man! Gave me the pointers I need to finish it off 😊
❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome
Thanks!
Your chords are perfect .
Hell yeah!
Fast and Bulbous.
That's right, The Mascara Snake. Fast and bulbous. Tight, also!
That was a most pleasant rendition Ken. Tattoo is a top 10 WHO favorite for me.
Me too!
And me! Especially the version on Live at Leeds
@@raywt3237 The transition from "Fortune Teller" is great.
You can hear Pete's love of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys on this one. I never thought Townshend had much love or respect for The Beatles as musicians or songwriters ( though he did respect them as vocalists ) , but Pete had huge admiration for what Brian Wilson was trying to do with the Beach Boys, which certainly made him try harder
I like to think of "Sell Out" as PT's "Pet Sounds." After "Ready Steady Who," he claims that if he'd stopped writing hits, they could easily have become a Beach Boys cover band with Moon singing lead! Lots of great songs on this LP, but this song stayed in set lists a lot longer than any of 'em, including "I Can See For Miles."
