    Good solution in a pinch, but pegboards have purpose made retention clips available. Nearly every kit of hooks you buy today comes with them. And they’re removable. Might be fairly new thing, but I scavenged some hooks from an old house that had to be put in 15-20 years ago and it had the retention clips too. 🤷‍♂️

    I hear you!!! Nothing sets me off in a rage as much as the exploitation of very pricey retainer clips that they do NOT sell separately but force you to buy as a set of hooks. You end up with a surplus of metal hooks and broken retainer clips. I have had enough of this!!! Aaarrrgggghhhh!#$$@!^^*()^%$&##@@!!! I am never EVER going to buy another retainer clip. I'm going to throw out my masonite board pegboards, get a sheet of plywood, cut in sections for easy mounting and removing, and make my own pegboard where I will screw/glue/weld those hooks on! Not a single fail again. This boat has sailed. One thing seems to be wrong on your pegboard. It is sitting up tight against the plywood behind it. You need more clearance. You need to raise it off the wall with some wood strips for a half inch or more clearance. Your hooks may be coming off because they are not able to hang properly with no clearance (air space) behind the pegboard. The ubiquitous HOT GLUE GUN from scrapbook to pegboards, a master of all fixes. Yes, that is the solution for sure. Interim solution before you get rid of the whole pegboard idea and make your own tool cabinet. My next upgrade.

    Here’s my two cents: Re: those little black springy things to hold the pegs in - yeah my peg set came with those, I don’t think they work for s&#t. Re: hot glue - hot glue is one of the easiest things to remove. Just a quick swipe with a blade, it comes right off. Or just blast it with a heat gun for a second, your item is immediately unglued.

    I see no one mentions brittle edges on the plasterboard.. wondering if the US stuff is a bit more solid than Australian? Not sure if I used boards which were damaged in transit but in general the edges are too brittle to sustain any bump.

      I honestly don't know about your drywall. What do you mean by bump ?

    • @hannesRSA
      @hannesRSA Год назад

      @@josephfisher6182 if you used it in a similar way as loose ceiling in a high traffic situation like an attic access hatch, it wouldn't work.. because the cut paperless edge would become brittle over time unless you're super careful. So in that case you'd have to frame it.

  • @doughaber3330

    They make black clips to hold and hook the hangs down. It takes 3 holes wide to attach. The glue defeats the purpose because it's not movable without butchering the board. Here are my 2 hacks. 1st, you can use the hooks that are like an "L" and use those black plastic clips I mentioned. You will need of both. Then take any wood you want that can be customized to create a left to right span. Drill small holes in the back of the wood and use the hooks I mentioned to slide in the holes. You're basically making a custom rack any way you want to and using the 2 "L" hooks to hold it horizontally. You can use your glue trick in the back holes. The 2nd, is to be willing to modify any clips as needed. I cut them and round the edges. I also take off the black tips for some tools with rubber in the hanging holes. The crescent wrenches I have have small holes and they are sticky. I might take a soldering iron to flesh out the rubber or plastic. 4th, I bore out hanging holes on my tools and brushes. Large pop rivets may be possible to attach some components such as magnetic strips and pop rivets can be drilled out easy. Plastic wall hanger inserts are on the list to try also. Everyone remember that peg board is best for living environment that change over time. It's great in my cast above my bench which has shelves about 2 feet above. Those black clips are a must and all metal racks or clips should never be used if you have to lift the tool up to get it in your hand. This wastes space above to make room for lifting the tool out. So peg board in my opinion is best for small areas. If you have ample walk areas, take the peg board to the curb and go with french cleats and make whatever you want to hold anything. Even cabinets. They often use 2 fresh cleats with at the top and one at the bottom. French cleats have a learning curve if you are new. You need to know how to cut them, the size of the cleats for strength, making keys to lock them in place, finding studs our using a plywood backer board and then all of the thousand ways to hang shit with them and build custom mounts. I've been learning for 2 years and keep finding great ideas on RUclips. There are probably 1000 hours of video ideas. Learn the mounting and spacing first then start cutting with quality plywood and run each one though the table saw to cut an 8th off the pointy tips. They love to splinter.do a nice job and when mounting, keep screws flush and I use a forstner bit or a counter sink bit. Drill pilot holes. When mounting, start at the bottom and use a long straight spacing strip and the cleats above. Get the bottom one perfectly level. Use several methods to accomplish that such as measuring from the floor, a good level that's true. I flip mine sideways and up and down to confirm level or you can use a digital level or laser line machine.dont forget to use your good old eye to confirm level. The bottom cleat gets all the attention and the true spacer strip carries your hard work home. Hope this helps someone.

    Heat shrink tubing. Just tried this hack and works very well. Cut the tubing slightly longer than the metal peg and apply a little heat (lighter works w ell). The tubing shrinks and will fit in the hole just snug enough to stay in place and the great thing is the pegs can be removed easily so you can rearrange till your heart's content with no damage to the board.

    I had a comment deleted. Maybe because it had a link to a tool selling place in it, but that was just for illustration, not spam honest! I don't know if these are obtainable in the USA, but in the UK, there are what used to be called Terry clips, and what people now usually just call tool clips. Come in a range of diameters, and designed to hold cylindrical items, so fine for screwdrivers, or anything with a cylindrical handle, but could probably fit things not perfectly cylindrical. The thing is that they come with a hole so you can screw them in (intended for wooden batten, but don't see why they couldn't also be screwed to pegboard). I hope it's ok to link to the Wikipedia article on Terry clips, just so people can see what I mean: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_clip ( _I have no connection with any seller of tools, etc, except as an occasional customer!_ ).

    • @screwedandglued
      @screwedandglued 2 года назад

      I don't know what happened to your previous comment. The only thing with the clips is dependent on the peg board you use. The MDF board to thin to put a screw and a heavy tool it will eventually fall out. Again depending on the size tool you use. I also use the t-clips in my garage and they are great, but all mine are in wood.
