The Sheep & Stag Remain (Alastair McDonald/Corban Music/MCPS)
The Highland Clearances, in which people of the north of Scotland & Isles were literally "cleared" out of their homes in the name of commerce & progress, is indeed, a black chapter in Scotland`s history. The fiddle tune "Lords Lovat`s Lament" is a beautiful & haunting air yet couches the lyrics of "Fuadach nan Gael" (The Destruction of the Highlander) & folksinger Alastair McDonald has added this to his repertoire of Scotland`s continuing store of battle ballads.

Braes o` Killicrankie (Trad wordsarr Alastair McDonald/Corban Recordings/MCPS)
Просмотров 60 тыс.14 лет назад
Alastair McDonald presents from his Flashback production "Velvet & Steel" a much misinterpreted song from the Scottish songbook. Oftimes performed as a "patriotic" victory song, the reality is that the battle of Killiecrankie (1689) is yet another of Scotland`s shames in that it depicts Scot killing fellow Scot over " religious" differences, giving rise to the utterance "...so many killing fact...
Recently in Scotland and heard Glencoe for the first time and had to send Alastair a message about it and the clearances. He messaged me back, what a wonderful surprise! So thankful to be a descendant of Clan MacBain and visited the home country!
He used the non pc lyrics. He faced dn foucht the franki-O. In atead if his aunti-O. They was fightin the french. Or with the french.
my friend from Innellan
This should be the anthem of the Scots diaspora. My bairns will most likely be American as I am, but they know this song by heart.
He fucked on land and fucked at sea? I like this guy.
Бывал бы ты, где я бывал, Ты б так не улыбался, брат. Видал бы ты, что я видал На склонах Килликранки, брат.
Blessed family name
This is by far the best version.
As a German, I love Scotland and especially the Highlands around Glen Coe, Loch Lomond and the Hebrides
This song is far more catchy than it ought to be.
Alastair got a way with songs f'sure, a mile up from the corries or any other version imo
Whaur hae ye been sae braw, lad? Whaur hae ye been sae brankie-o? Whaur hae ye been sae braw, lad? Come 'ye by Killiecrankie-o? An' ye had been whaur I hae been Ye wadna been sae cantie-o An' ye had seen what I hae seen On the braes o' Killiecrankie-o I fought at land, I fought at sea At hame I fought my auntie-o But I met the Devil and Dundee On the braes o' Killiecrankie-o The bauld pit cur fell in a furr And Clavers gat a crankie-o Or I had fed an Athol gled On the braes o' Killiecrankie-o Oh fie, MacKay, What gart ye lie I' the brush ayont the brankie-o? Ye'd better kiss'd King Willie's lofe Than come tae Killiecrankie-o It's nae shame, it's nae shame It's nae shame to shank ye-o There's sour slaes on Athol braes And the de'ils at Killiecrankie-o
Genuinely needed lyrics XD
Wrong lyrics. U gave the corries PC bersion switching out fighting the french for the auntie-o. Just had to say. Sorry.

`..,and Claver`s got a clankie`... Refers to the bullet(a random shot)that felled Dundee-unnoticed till after the battle. Then the Cameronians beat the Jacobites in a urban battle at Dunkeld a short bit later.
He was a scottish oatriot. Bless his soul.
Mickey mouse helium version?

No
My teacher put this on today after a lesson of Jacobites and redcoats
It's a fabulousness song XD
good version, love it.
Just proves that we all have different tastes! But Corries and uncreative are words I would never use in the same sentence (-: To me, their music had more variety and creativity than almost any other group I have ever heard.
The way Roy and Ronnie interpreted and sang Scotland'songs for all of us non - Scotland to understand is unsurpassed, and never will be better done by any other Artists of Scottish Folk/Traditional music! The Corries Abu!
I like this song sung by almost anyone, especially the Corries and Corrie Folk Trio . I find this one a little too fast.
Songs about the highland clearances always make me sad. Still, that is likely how some of my ancestors ended up here across the pond.
Because of the diaspora caused by the Clearances, there are more Scottish people living in America and Australasia than in Scotland.
Accurately describes the family farms in the USA, many of which were established by relocated Scots, now just brush, forestlands and weekend homes.
Alastair McDonald is one of the greatest Scotsmen to put Scotland to song never get tired of hearing him
