the carrier a/c does not look old - what a waste!
It was a 2008. It looked better than it ran.
Not old - but may have had a refrigerant leak causing reduced capacity. If 410a - worth repairing. Should get 20 years out of an a/c - with repairs along the way. @@airflowinc.1973

You’re lucky your utility allows you to apply for the rebate with a system that does not have an AHRI matched system number. In my state, it;s game over if there is not an AHRI match and an Energy Star label, even if the system hits the numbers.
Thanks for joining the conversation about heat pumps Scott. He may have been lucky; however, Tom reports that he worked with Focus On Energy for about a year to gain that option.
I also live in Wisconsin and I decided to go with the Mitsubishi intell-Heat system which is a similar duel fuel system to the one that was installed in this video. The contractor that did the installation said that the system would qualify for the Focus rebate but it never happened. I am happy with the system as this last cold front that went through my gas furnace ran only once.

I have not heard of these gree flexx units failing often at all. They are rock solid units except in the hottest of hot regions (Arizona desert)
It's still a condenser no matter how you color your words
When it's heating it's reverse, wouldn't it not always be a condenser then?
The fact that your mechanical contractor used a filter drier on his recovery machine was a good sign he actually cares about his job. One of the major points of removing the old lineset and using a new one is also that there can be a lot of oil and contaminants inside of those lines. Those contaminants can cause wear and tear over time or even immediate issues with internal components to keep it simple. When brazing on a mini split or heat pump system it is of the utmost importance to use a nitrogen purge to prevent any carbon buildup in the system which can cause a lot of issues on startup or even down the road. I hope these few tidbits of information help people who may encounter this comment. AC and Refrigeration systems are very precise systems and need to be installed in accordance with manufacturer specs to allow for the full potential of the units to be realized without any hangups. One last bit of information is always buy Mitsubishi. Nobody compares to their units that I've seen.

@@user-ln7of9gs4s agreed, anyone who has had to replace a 3 year old Embraco compressor but watched a 20+ year old Copeland still running perfectly in 90°f would also agree. Small well built components make a massive difference.
I see he is using a Carrier heat Pump. I had a Carrier Heat Pump and it turns out that the outside Coil is made of Aluminum. After about 5 years the Aluminum coils sprung a leak, And guess what? Aluminum Coils are UNFIXABLE. You have to replace the entire unit. Give me old fashioned copper.

What is the difference between Gree Flexx and Gree Ultranixx ?
Looking into it myself, I found that they are similar if not the same. They use the same condensers and evaporators, but the Ultranixx is the Kinghome sub brand. The Flexx had more parts with higher seer ratings, but averaged about the same. In fact, comparing the Flexx 54k btu to the Ultranixx 54k btu, they seem identical on observation on a physical level, and have 1 seer different (18seer verse 17seer respectfully.) The indoor forced air systems look identical outside of labeling. The smaller the system, the larger the seer gap mind you, at 36k btu, it is a 2 seer difference.
